The idea is very original, I love it ! The game is quite challenging but really fun!

Developer

Thanks for playing, really appreciate it!

(No idea why I didn’t respond to this last month, sozzz :P )

A very well-made game, visually it looks great and has that NES essence added by the gameplay and sound. The mechanics are fun, although I did die a lot each time I entered a new section of the level, but that doesn't take away from it being an incredible game.

Developer

Thank you so much! That’s really nice to hear about the visuals honestly 😅 its area I have the least experience in so the positive reactions I’ce gotten have been super encouraging. Glad the challenge didn’t deter you 😊

Pretty cool game. My favorite thing has to be how the audio changes as you descend deeper and deeper! It really gives a sense of atmosphere to the game and guiding bob through the water is a genuine challenge.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the challenge

Absolutely NAILED the NES aesthetic, most of all with the sound design. Everything felt so authentic! I wasn't able to get super far but it was still fun! nice work

Developer

Hey thanks so much for making the video and for ur compliment on the sound design, I used GB Studio to do all the music and SFX.

So for gameplay one of the main goals is to grab those grey things (sinkers) that pop out of fish when you attack them, that’s how you get further down. Glad you enjoyed it anyway!

"We'll catch him one day, I know it." The twist was hilarious, I love it, poor Bob though.

This game made me feel dumb, as I spent one hour randomly dying from reeling-in when going further with no idea of how I was dying as I missed the mechanic and then another 30 minutes to realise I could attack from afar and did not had to wait for the fish to be stuck to the hook and release it.

Honestly this could be a NES cartridge almost as is, and I mean including the structure and the length, if anything it would probably have been made harder and longer but not certainly for the best. The game is great, gameplay's unique while everything about it totally feels NES-like and so do the visuals and soundtrack, I specially like the tune from the first area. The controls and speeds feel perfect in the context, there are plenty of cool sequences and the length and difficulty of the game are perfect, there's no dead time so it's engaging to play again to get further and it's hard enough that it's satisfying to eventually beat the game.

Sooo happy someone got to the end and saw the cutscene lol! Thanks a lot for the kind words and for sticking with the game for so long, I definitely want it to be both harder and longer (don’t we all? 😮‍💨).

And funny you mentioned thinking you had to have the fish hooked before you could attack them bc that was the original plan before my playtesters told me it was a bit confusing, so I added the more traditional attack mechanic afterward 😂

So happy you got such a kick out of Bob and I really appreciate the time you put into your comments and critiques, and on like every single game too, from what I’m seeing! Rockstar!

I really like the idea of this game, and it makes me think if a Halloween edition is planned, it could be Rob THE Spider.

Developer

Haha well I’m planning on including skins in a future update so maybe!

It took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, it was a lot of fun! I loved the music during the game, the enemies are very creative and the idea of having to protect my wire while worrying about the other obstacles is very good! It reminded me of Club Penguin's fishing mini-game hahahaha Very good, congratulations!!!

Developer(+1)

Loool love the Club Penguin connection 😂 Really glad you liked the challenge of the damageable-fishing-line mechanic, thanks for playing!

Really cool game!
I wasn't sure how the gameplay would feel just looking at it, but the balance between gathering resources, and the unusual line based hitbox made for a very satisfying yet somewhat frustrating experience.
In a good way though, felt very much like a classic console game, that has you saying "I know I can get a bit further next time!"
Took a a few plays to understand how you stop from slowing down, but otherwise felt very intuitive.
Didn't quite get to the end during this first playing of it, but am left wanting to come back to it and see it through!

Developer

Hey thank you! I’m glad you got what I was going for with the particular type of challenge the game presents. No worries if you never end up making it til the end, I’ll be posting a vid of the cutscene in the DC after the jam is over for ppl to see (it’s like 70% of why I made the game lol)

A nice short game. Really captures that NES feel and difficulty perfectly. Would love to see how the items are implemented when the get fully realized.

Developer

Thanks! Hoping you made it to the end ? 👀 I definitely tried to tone down the difficulty after I had some ppl playtest it cuz I’m super invested in players seeing that cutscene haha. Thanks for playing ❤

It's a shame that this has gone overlooked so far, this is a fun time!
I like the border around the screen, not many other submissions did that but it works well.

Developer

Hey thanks thats really nice of you to say!
