Description
When I saw the theme of the jam, the first image that came to my mind was of a child, sitting down on the grass, looking up at the stars. So I decided to make the soundtrack for a somewhat wistful/nostalgic adventure game, about a child who embarks on a journey to find a shooting star and ask for a wish.

To this end, the first two instruments I chose (I use them in almost all tracks) were a metallophone and a whistling instrument. The songs are somewhat pop/rock/country-ish I suppose? My inspiration were games like Stardew Valley, Mother and Pokémon, since I thought that would fit the theme well.

There are four tracks total (one non-loopable, three loopable):

1) Adventure awaits (non-loopable). This track would play on the titlescreen / load game screen.

2) Looking for a dream (loopable). This would be the main overworld track.

3) Forest of the witch (loopable). This would play during a dangerous "final" sequence in the game. My idea was that you'd have to visit a witch's hut, and the witch was rumored to be very dangerous, but in the end you'd become friends and she'd help you find your star.

4) Starry night: This would play at the end of the game, when the child has finally fulfilled their wish and they're looking at the starry sky.

To make the tracks I used FL Studio, with a mix of FLEX instruments, Spitfire LABS and Spitfire Originals Media Toolkit (which is where the metallophone comes from, I love how it sounds!). The cover art was made in Aseprite.

My experience making music is still limited and I'm not really used to composing in these genres (I generally do more "electronic-sounding" music). This has been a very fun experience!

Message from the artist:
Working on this soundtrack has been hard, since this week I've had a LOT of work to finish before the holidays, so during the day I typed away at the computer, and at night I made music. But I'm really glad I could pull it off.

I hope you enjoy the tracks, and happy holidays to you all!

Theme:

Wish upon a star

How does it fit the theme?
As I mentioned, I decided to go for a somewhat soft, nostalgic, pop-ish sound reminiscent of Stardew Valley, Pokémon, etc., meant for an adventure game as seen from the perspective of a child. I based the songs on the verbal theme, not the picture, although I believe it could also fit the picture as well.

Each individual song has its own amazing characteristics and sets these moods that would fit well into a world. In an adventure there is mystery, hope, sadness, and longing. I think you set a very amazing tone for what you want.

These are great! I think Starry Night is my favorite, I loved the lullaby feel and it definitely feels like and end of game track!

Adventure Awaits: The whistle sound is so fun and definitely fits the Mother inspiration. I imagine this working well in a Yoshi game as it has the cute theme on the surface, but has a surprising amount of sustenance when you dive deeper. The soft guitar backing is also nice and calming.

Looking for a Dream: I felt the Pokemon town theme influence on this track! I don’t have much to say about this one other than I think you are talented at melody writing!

Forest of the Witch: The instruments you used and waltzy style remind me of Banjo-Kazooie music in which the spookiness is conveyed while still keeping the light-hearted atmosphere/feel present. The echoey vocals are also a nice touch to add to the ominous feeling of the dark forest.

Starry Night: I agree, I love the sound of this instrument! This is such a soothing and wonderful way to end your OST. I really enjoyed listening all the way through! Thank you for sharing!

Adventure Awaits is super whimsical. It is a great intro to the game, I love the whistling instrument that makes it super cozy. Looking for a dream is fun, I like the effects on the guitar here. Forest of the witch was perfect for the scene you describe as well, love that the witch ends up being friends with them :p Starry Night is a relaxing and peaceful end to the journey. I like the influence you took from games like stardew and pokemon, it really shows but is still something totally unique. Thank you for sharing such an awesome OST!

I love how playful everything is! The first two tracks are super cozy, and Forest of the witch gives me banjo and kazooie vibes, which is extremely charming. The last track is also very magical, fitting for the theme of the star. Cool entry!

Nice to have that guitar along the first 2 tracks! I think you gave a good feeling of Stardew Valley like game with that soundtrack.

It was pleasant to listen to and it really let me imagine a smooth game with friendly creatures and a dreamy adventure that make you attached to it's universe.

Thank you for sharing :)

I really like the nostalgic sound of your tracks. especially, the whistling in The adventure awaits is such a pleasant surprise I didn't expected.
I also like how metallophones softens the pop-ish sound of the guitar. The waltz of  Forest of the witch really is a nice balance between tentional and innocent aspect as well.
Great job!

Very relaxing and dreamy indeed. Excellent choice of that metallophone and whistle combination to evoke that feel. Starry Night is my favorite. Beautiful lullaby melody there. Great work!
