Description
I've written a main theme for an imaginary little adventure game (I imagine it would be a mix between Journey and Spiritfarer, where you'd sail across a beautiful sea of stars exploring, making friends and finding meaning in life).
I used FLStudio 20.

Message from the artist:
This is my first time doing anything like this. Every second was a treat to write.

Theme:

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The processed piano gives the vibe of being peacefully adrift at sea. Eventually it gets into a groove, like you're in a flow state exploring the waves, not a care in the world, just you and the stars. That's what I feel when I listen to it anyway!

Creative track! The time signature and harmonies here are so cool. Great work!

there's so much in this track, but I especially loved that last minute of the song. Simply awesome composition!!

Wow there is so much packed into this single track. If you were to flesh out the music for the rest of your game, you’d be set with all the motifs that you’d need. This would be an excellent title track and I can just see this going on with an epic opening cinematic. Your chords have a spacey quality to them which help convey the theme. I also love the nod to Howl’s Moving Castle - also adding to the magical quality of your track. The drum stutters throughout are also a fun touch amidst the changing time signatures. I’m glad you found this community and I look forward to hearing more of your music in future jams. Thanks for sharing!

This was crazy fun to listen too! Nice job on all the mixing as well.

YEAHHHH ODD TIME SIGNATURES WOOOOOOOOO

But seriously I'm a big fan of the kind of grooves that are just a tiny bit removed from 4/4 to give them this sort of lilting feel - I think it does wonders here to create a similar feeling in the rhythm to that of a rocking boat.  Love the synths used in here - that main lead (square wave + cutoff filter + pitch slide + vibrato automation? correct me if I'm wrong, I'm curious) is a classic and one of my absolute personal favorites.  great, great work all around!

HELL YEAH BABY, WEIRD TIME SIGS FOR THE WIN!!

You're spot on about the lead synth! I use it a lot, love how it can cut through almost anything I put under it. Only thing is there's two of them here, if you can hear it there's one made in Vital that's to the left and another made in Harmless that's a little to the right, they're usually just doing octaves but every now and then they harmonize a little and you can tell (or at least I hope so lmao)

why not have 1 synth when you can have 2 right? that's like 100% more synth per synth!

Nice synths combination enlighted by the guitar at the end! And the rythm is very interesting! I counted like 3 times 6 in a bar but anyways, you nailed that beat cause it's not easy to pull off drums in that kind of work.

Overall the spacey synths and piano are great and it even has that jazzy experimental vibe sometimes.

It is a track with character that works well with the idea of exploring the waves. I definitely imagine this a the main theme to a game with a strong graphic identity!

Very good job and thanks a lot for sharing your work :)

I appreciate that! I wrote it as 4/4, then 9/8 from the moment the drums start until it goes back to 4/4 at the end (with some timey curve balls here and there too). I tried putting the main theme in 9/8 at the end, but it didn't work out too well lol.

Haha didn't even notice that at the end! x) But yeah I re-listened a few minutes later and came up with 4/4+4/5 so yes 9/4. Unusual tempo that you almost perfected :)

Your main theme has a joe Hisaishi quote from the Merry-go-round of life :)
I really like the instrumentation, the synths work well, and are very nicely contrasted by the miano and strings. the bit of Electric guitar hits the spot too !
There is a nice narrative to the track and interesting harmonic development, and the irregular metre gives some mean momentum
Good job !

I'm happy you caught that! the little Merry-go-round of life quote helped me a bunch when I felt like I was out of ideas. That song means so much to me.

Kind of sounds a bit ominous at the start, which I find interesting, a bit sad for a while even. Makes me think about the origins of why the protagonist got out to sea. Then we move on more and more from that, like the protagonist says "screw this", I'm done being gloomy, I'm gonna brave these waves and see what happens!

I feel you bring quite the unique palette to this track, with the synthy colours you chose. I do always appreciate doing something that feels different, as it would give your hypothetical game it's own recognizable voice. I'm also going to be yet another one to mention the drums, just so you really know they do sound crisp

Really cool rhythm! I dont know exactly what it is, but I think its 4.5 /4 time? Either way really interesting, especially since I didnt even notice it was an odd time signature until I got curious and started counting.

Developer(+1)

That's right! it's in 9/8 from the moment the drums come in up until it goes back to 4/4 for the main theme at the end. But even then I think I ate a couple 8th notes there somewhere, so don't trust that 4/4 too much LMAO

Very nice synth melodies. Does give a starry vibe.

Great job! I think this was done really well. You did a great job with your synth sounds, and the drums are crisp and laid in the mix well! Also, just a very fun dream vibe!

Great work on this, I like the sounds you used and the sound world you built. The drums have a great snap to them and the synth sounds are great.
