Description
The genre of the Soundtrack is a mix of Orchestral, Rock, and Funk!

I imagined the Game as Pokemon Inspired. A shooting star fell to Earth 100 years ago, and it broke apart in the nights sky. Crystals fell to earth, and these crystals had magical properties. When someone wished their deepest wish into the crystal, the crystal created a creature based on that wish!

Decades later, almost all the dormant crystals are active, and have taken on the wishes of nearby humans and transformed them into creatures bound to the human.

2 people find powerful dormant crystals.

Claire, a wealthy girl who wishes all her problems could just disappear.
Shane, a scrappy guy who wishes he could do whats right to protect his friends.

They make a wish on the remnants of the fallen shooting star.

Shooting Star - A Music Box Style Track that would play as a Storybook is read about the Lore of the World about the Fallen Shooting Star and the crystals it imparted on Earth.

Starfall Main Theme - The main theme of the game, combining Claires Theme instruments and Shanes Theme instruments into a style of song that represents them both!

Claires Theme - An upbeat and refined style of song, meant to represent Claires personality.

Shanes Theme - A funky and laid back song, meant to represent Shanes personality.

Battle Theme - A rock inspired sound track for when Claire and Shane battle it out! Uses both their leitmotifs, Claires ascending and descending melody and Shanes chiptune countermelody.

I composed the storybook introduction track first, before moving onto the character themes. The characters instruments and songs then influenced the Main Theme, and then were also taken into consideration for their face off Battle Song!

I used FL Studio for producing these tracks!

Message from the artist:
This is my first time in a compitition like this, and I hope you all enjoy! I'm not professionally trained at all, but this was an awesome learning experience! Hope to be back next time!

Theme:

Wish upon a star

How does it fit the theme?
People wish into crystals that fell from a shooting star, and it brings their wishes to life in the form of Creatures!

This is a cool OST for your first time in a competition! Love the groove in the battle theme. Nice work!

Shooting Star: I like the music box style – this works very well as an intro theme. The falling arpeggio is great musical imagery for shooting stars.

Starfall Main Theme: This is very creative to try and fuse two musical styles. These two genres are particularly difficult to combine so props to you!

Claire’s Theme: I got great images of a fancy woman in my head when listening to this theme – definitely fits your description of “refined”. The somber undertones of this track make me think that Claire maybe has some secret that makes her sad, but she doesn’t want other people to know about it.

Shane’s Theme: That kick sound is fat and big and awesome! This is a fun scrappy tune that makes Shane seem like a broody person who has been through a lot in his life. I think your choice of chiptune sounds for the lead works well to further distinguish the difference between him and Claire.

Battle Theme: Your use of the electric guitar makes this feel like a Pokemon battle with the driving drumbeat. It would be cool if you created another layer to this track that added a double-time beat or extra energy with cymbals or something for when the battle gets particularly heated. This really impressive for your first time composing for a competition. Doing more and more of these has helped a lot of us, who are also not professionally trained (some are), improve our compositional skills as well. Thank you for sharing your work!

You've got some really nice ideas.! Some clashing harmonies here and there but I enjoyed the choice of sounds and the overall vibe of the OST very much! My favorite one was "Shanes theme" I like the "techy" vibe which contrasted with the rest of the soundtrack. Nice job!

Thanks so much! Yeah, I'm still an ametuer at a lot of music stuff, but thankyou for the feedback and kind words! My fav is Shanes theme too!

Don't worry we all started somewhere 🙂 Keep making and listening to music and you'll improve a lot, you've already got some pretty cool ideas!

Reall cool submission! I like the amount of variety you were able to create, yet still have everything sound like its from the same game. cool entry!

I love the story you wrote for the game and how well the tracks fit the story. The characters themes do a great job of telling us a bit about themselves. Nice work!

Thankyou so much for your feedback!! ^-^

Shane's theme was an awesome surprise. I love how it contrasts Claire's theme and helps build your narrative about the conflict between the two. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you so much!! I did really try to make it seem like they're from completely opposite worlds, that even their viewpoints would be incomprehensible for either to understand. Glad to see it came across!! ^-^

What a narrative! The story you told, both with words and with sound, was lovely. Good stuff!

Developer

Oh thankyou!! I love to try to tell stories through music, its my favourite thing about composing.

I especially enjoyed listening to Shanes Theme -- I think the combination of the guitar + piano chords + beat really balanced well and showed personality! On a side note, I think the instruments' volumes can be more balanced in the Battle Theme. For example, I think the volume of the track with the motif from Claire's Theme can be lowered a bit to make room for Shane's Theme to shine.  Overall, good job and again, I enjoyed listening to your pieces and how it fit with the storyline you wrote!

Developer

Thankyou, Shanes is one of my favourites! and yeah, I think Mixing and Volume isn't my strong point hahah! but thankyou for the feedback, I will have to pay closer attention next time! Thankyou so much!!!

That was a fun and coherent submission, with the way you build your tracks I honestly didn't expect something as Claire's theme! It was poetic and it's my favorite :)

Developer

Oh thankyou so much! Yeah Claires was very different, but I really liked it overall!

Amazing vibe and aesthetic, the music box from the 1st track made me realize that it was going to be a great soundtrack! Nice!

Developer

Definitely nailed the star feel, descending scales indicating falling stars from above, very nice! I think your backdrop chord voicings might be more effective if you avoid repeating loops over and over again. You could try to break up your chords a bit using different inversions to add some more variety. neat job overall. I could see this in the game you describe!

Developer

Thankyou so much for your feedback!! I definitely struggle with variety a lot of the time, your feedback is super appreciated!
