Description
Genre: digital fusion, chiptune, piano, video game soundtrack

Game: "Heaven's Beloved Seas" follows a skilled sailor who crosses the seas to eventually meet the goddess that loves the waters. Together, they protect the place they call home.

Tracklist:
1. Lost at Sea: A sailor (the player) is lost at sea in search of the goddess’s wish - although apart from a recollection of the word and a strong feeling, they're not quite sure what that wish actually is. Nevertheless, they search the seas in solitude to find it. (This track plays while the player travels the sea in an overworld).

2. Battle in the Storm: As the sailor traverses the seas, they encounter harsh winds, crashing waves, and mysterious creatures that threaten to throw them aboard and destroy their progress. With great skill and determination, and courage inspired by the falling stars and gentle moonlight, the sailor overcomes these hurdles. However, the sailor cannot traverse the sea forever, and eventually they fall unconscious... (This track plays while the player is in a battle or tumultuous situation, like a storm).

3. Wishful Dreaming: In points of rest and/or weakness, the sailor falls asleep and dreams of the goddess's wish they hold dear to their heart. In some moments, they can almost feel memories of what the goddess's wish is, and why it is they're fighting so hard to find it. One day, the sailor hopes to wake up to the answers. (This track plays in moments of rest and reflection, like at a save point, on a title screen, or in cutscenes).

4. The Goddess's Wish: One fateful day, the sailor wakes up to find themselves face to face with the goddess. In a sudden flash, the sailor feels the memories of the goddess's wish flooding back. Armed with the realization of clues to complete the goddess's wish, and a newfound sense of purpose, the sailor sets off to do what they need to do - as the goddess watches in a faraway place, placing hope in the sailor that they will complete their mission. (This track plays at a momentous point in the story, when the sailor finds a certain objective related to the goddess).

Lost at Sea is really fun with its descending arpeggios and the chiptune like synth ! Great theme completely fitting both themes.

Awesome start in Battle in Storm ! I really like those chiptune plucks and the deep bass piano note + the frenetic rythm, really gives that old rpg battle vibe. There is a great attention to details all along.

Whishful dreaming is so shoothing, and yes the 5/4 temps definitly makes it even more dreamy ! Magnifique tune <3

The Godess's Wish ends your soundtrack perfectly, proving you can do fun tunes, relaxing and charming tunes, battles tunes, and Powerful Stoty Tunes ! All in the same spirit :)

You mixed chiptune sounds and piano/other instruments perfectly ! It sounds like the Ost to an already existing great indie game, that's wonderful! Thank you fot making me listen to this :)

Really nice combination of retro videogame sounds and sampled instruments. I think my favorite track is Wishful Dreaming, it's so relaxing and the odd time signature feels so natural and really helps it achieve a relaxing, restful, and reflective tone. The piano in the The Goddess's Wish was so good too, I love the powerful chords it plays when it comes in at 1:03

Lost at Sea: I love this combination of chiptune and authentic instrumental sounds! When listening to this track, I imagine the chiptune lead representing the main character with the piano representing thet ocean beneath him and the twinkling bells as the stars falling from the sky. This lends itself to musically describe how the ocean and stars have so much more depth and complexity and beauty than the human experience can fathom. This would be an excellent track to listen to in the background of a game.

Battle in the Storm: I like that the main theme is utilized again in this minor fast-paced battle version. The low piano note and the echoey synths feel like the ominous and dangerous sea constantly looming in these tension-filled situations. I love the piano flourishes that occur throughout this track, as if the stars and the goddess are omnipresent and are always helping the main character.

Wishful Dreaming: This track reminds me of music you would hear in relaxing areas in Kingdom Hearts. The push and pull of the tempo feels very natural like the push and pull of the ocean waves. The reverb on this track feels really pleasant and works very well in describing the story correlate.

The Goddess’ Wish: The fast harp line is really pretty when it enters. The big moment at 1:04 feels so powerful and beautiful as if that is the exact moment the sailor receives the epiphany from the goddess. These are some beautiful and very well-crafted tracks. I love the combination of piano and chiptune in all of them. Excellent work and thank you for sharing!

Wow thank you for your comments on all 4 tracks -- really appreciate your analysis on each of them  on top of reading the storyline :) I think renzo's choice of 5/4 for the time signature in Wishful Dreaming  really helped with the push and pull you mentioned! As for The Goddess's Wish, I'm glad that the build up leading to  the 1:04 timestamp/return to the beginning's main melody worked out well in terms of connecting back to the storyline! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on our music+storyline.

P.S. I also enjoyed listening to your music+reading your storyline+behind-the-scenes thought process for music theory representing moods/events in the story!

Everything you both did worked out well and you should be proud! And thank you for taking the time to listen to my submission! It means a lot!

Some really damn cool chiptune to start off, with some interesting harmonies to start off the second track, before leading into the good ol bVI-bVII-i to add lots of energy and forward momentum! Second track was my favorite for sure! I liked the move away from pure chiptune to add some variety, some really pretty piano in the third track! And then the fourth track was an extremely satisfying conclusion, combining both the chiptune and natural instruments. Loved this OST, good work by both of you!

Thank you so much for commenting on all four tracks!! Haha didn't expect to see chord progression here. Yes, we placed The Goddess's Wish last to end on an epic note :) Glad it provided a satisfying conclusion for you -- thanks again for your kind words!!

Developer(+1)

glad you liked the bVI-bVII-i :) always wanted to try the “triumphant, emotional moment in the middle of a dark battle theme” sort of energy and i’m glad it came through for you!

I usually don't have a particular connection with chip tune style, but I really enjoyed the 2 first tracks, I think it was a superb choice not staying exclusive to chip tune esthetic. I'm impressed how it maintains the main 8 bit-ish aspect while adding so much expression and a freshness in soundscape!!
It also does a natural transition to Wishful Dreaming, staying coherent although chip tune sound is not present anymore. And it returns in the last track but I hear it like the dynamics between (acoustic)instrument and chip tune are reversed, 8 bit drum and accompanying motifs remaining in the 2nd layer to the main instrumental music. It's such a well constructed soundtrack, I enjoyed it so much. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Developer

Thank you and I'm glad you liked our tracks! It's refreshing that you noticed how we tried to make a cohesive story using solely chiptune/acoustic instruments haha. Like you mentioned, I think  overall the chiptune really set up the soundscape for the acoustics to shine especially in Wishful Dreaming and Goddess's Wish :) Thanks again for your kind words!

I love the 16 bit vibes in this one. Very melodic and immersive. Really cool battle theme. Nice job reusing the main theme throughout. Wishful dreaming is my favorite. Very magical with the soft piano. Thanks for sharing!

Developer

Thank you and glad you found our tracks immersive and melodic! Actually Wishful Dreaming is one of my personal favorites too because of its dreamy feel and variations on the leitmotif :) Thanks again!

Wow, this was so magical. My favorite one is The Goddess's Wish. Reminds me of  the ginzo escape sequence from Ori, super sick!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I also enjoyed writing The Goddess’s Wish 🌌

Developer(+1)

i’ve been listening to Ori game soundtracks for inspiration so i really appreciate this comparison, thank you!!

Great pieces. "The Godess's Wish" is a great demonstration of composition to keep those tracks with different energies blended so well. I appreciate the range of all of these pieces that clearly go together so well.

Developer

Thank you!! I think we had fun with building up the tension in that piece :)

I loved it! The piano is used so well in the entire album, this is some really great writing. My favorite is "Wishful dreaming", the shimmery layer and the reverb beneath the piano are absolutely lovely!

Developer

thank you!!! the atmosphere of Wishful Dreaming was really fun to make and i’m glad you enjoyed it ^^

Great soundtrack! My favorite was Wishful Thinking, reminds me of Cosmic Cove from Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Developer

thank you!!! that was also one of my favorite tracks for how spacey/dreamy it felt, honored to be compared to Super Mario Galaxy 2 🌠

Amazing work, I love the careful choice of sounds and synths you used. You built a lovely sound world and had wonderful harmonies that carried you through the emotions of the journey described for your game.

Developer

thank you so much!! we had a fun time building off of each other’s ideas and forming a story with our music, and i’m glad you were able to take that away from our soundtrack ^^

Submitted(+1)

what an enthralling listen!  i love the noise drums, and the melody lines have such a particular vibe that i want to describe as cautious optimism and curiosity.  Love the use of motif here, that main melody works so well in all the different contexts, and i love how it gets twisted to network with each song without losing its character or recognizability. beautiful, beautiful stuff.

Developer(+1)

Glad to hear that the variation on the motifs/leitmotifs we used came through! Thanks for the kinds words :)

Developer(+1)

thank you so much! we did our best to have a melodic consistency across our tracks to give the soundtrack some identity and i’m glad you could point it out :)

8-Bit has never been my style. But it's the first time I find  it beautiful. Nice job.

How could you blend 8-bit and modern instuments together in such a good way? They sound great together.

Developer

Haha, thank you so much for your flattering words. Glad you liked it!

Developer

thank you!! we did our best to blend the two together in a complementary way ^^

I loved it! Goddess wish is great, it has a beautiful oriental feel that suits the theme. The ending is gorgeus. I fell in love.

Wishful dream is a good ambient track. I would have liked to hear more melody towards the end, but it works.

Lost at the sea is a great track to navigate between the game menu, and musically speaking in Battle in the storm the interplay between piano and synths has something very magical, super professional. The piano interactions always add material, they are not redundant or disturbing to the instrumentation.

I was thrilled listening to the whole thing, the ost is coherent even though there is a noticeable change in style from 8bit to modern instrumentation between tracks and there are very memorable melodies.

Congratulations!

Developer

Thanks for your kinds words & comments on each of the tracks! :) Congrats to you too!
