Description
I imagine a plattaformer adventure game. Leafy is a character in a magic forest and the guardian of the Forest Clock.
My inspiration for the music was the Ost of Ori and the Blind Forest, with wind instruments and strings. I compose two Exploration tracks and one Combat Track. I use Reaper as my principal DAW.
First, I improvise in my piano until I get a chord progression I like. Then I work in the orchestration of this, trying to use intruments with ''Ori and the Blind Forest Vibes''.
In the Exploration Themes I try a confy/calm/magical felling, with wind and pads. In the second theme, some strings to give movement, but not too much.
The Combat Theme was the most diffcult for me. It's my first try in composing a Combat theme, I think it was quite forced, I don't feel that fit entirely with the Explorations themes, but I think It's a good first try :)

How does it fit the theme?

The exploration themes are my favorite, very pretty forest-like atmosphere and some satisfying woodwinds. Nice work!
Exploration Themes: These are very calm themes with a serene ambient forest vibe. I love the combination of strings, flute, and piano - you nailed the Ori vibes!
Combat Theme: I like the dynamic transition from the exploration themes into this more upbeat combat theme! Use of cymbals helps energize the soothing gentle exploration themes. I think you have really good ideas with more rhythmically moving string parts with soaring melodies in the horns and winds. Your strings are very forward and while variation would also be helpful, I think simply lowering their volume and bringing the soaring melodies forward would give us a better sense of what you want the listener to focus on during this epic battle scene! Overall this was very pleasant to listen to! Good job and thank you for sharing!
I also love the Ori and the Blind forest OST and I clearly hear the inspiration in you music from that! :) Apart from what others mentioned for the third track: minimalism is great but usually not for the dynamics. The strings sound little too repetitive also because their dynamic stays more or less the same.
But overall good work! :)
Yeah, you're right. I have to put more attention in the dynamic of the strings, thanks your very much for the tips!
An interesting contribution. I think I get what the other commenters are saying about the third track, a minimalistic battle piece could still work but might need more tonal variety or maybe some different layers of instrumentation to really come through. I can hear your battle theme working well with an Anna Meredith-styled minimalistic orchestration, in the style of maybe something like "Nautilus". I was getting those kinds of vibes, so I could hear something like that working here.
I didn't know Anna Meredith, very interesting music!! I'll give it a couple more listenings, really impressive. Love that minimalistic orchestration. thanks you very much for the tips!
First and second tracks are done very well, the third, as for me, is little lack of the point, if you tried to do real combat theme you should use less repetitions and more powerful soundings, and, despite the fact, that it's an Ori's style music the theme only on the violins seems too lone.
thanks for the tips! they're welcome! :)
It's nice to have a track that takes time to breathe. The melody isn't ovewhelming.
The musical twist is unexpected. You composed two tracks in one. Exploration and battle. It's well done and pleasant to listen.
thanks for the comments! :)
I think your'e really good with creating an atmosphere and very ambient tracks, and the production on those sounds great!
Like you said, the battle theme sounds a bit forced, and in my opinion also a bit too repetitive - usually creating 2 sections and using the 2nd section as a way to break up the first section really helps! But, for a first attempt it is pretty good, and the production still sounds just as good and lively.
thanks for the tips! they're welcome! yeah, creating 2 sections sounds like a good way to break up the first sections! thanks for the comments
The Ori inspirations are coming through loud and clear (not that I mind the Ori soundtracks are some of my personal favorites). The intro is very gentle and magical.
Yeah, the Ori soundtracks are amazing, love them very much. Thanks for the listening and comment! :D
This is great! I absolutely love the themes you developed with the flute (which sounds gorgeous btw). The composition and the way each track flows into the other is spot on!
For the combat theme, I would suggest layering harmonies to add tension, I find it works really well to just change the pedal note even when keeping the same ostinato on the strings like you did here. And layering and adding new instruments that just play an octave up or harmonise with already present ones really helps bring up the tension and create movement. But it's sounds nice for a first attempt nonetheless. Keep up the good work! Great job overall!
Thank you for the comment and composing tips! They are relly helpfull to me. I'll try them soon!
Nice composition! I like the very soothing first part, and the tense part at the end fits in well. Maybe you could have one more quiet part at the end to release the tension :)
Thank you for the listening and comment! :D
I'ts a soft OST that makes me feel cozy :D It gives me Ori vibes as you said! And some Hollow Knight 👀
Cozy vibes where the most important intention, love that you felt it :D
The woodwind with the soft choir pads was beautiful. Great work :)
Thanks for listening and the comment! :D
Really nice work, especially the first two parts are really beatiful and gives me the feeling that the description (and image) conveys. The final part is more hectic and while it should be, given it is a combat scenario, it feels a bit "all over the place" but on the other hand reminds a me a bit about the Lord of The Rings interpretation by Bo Hansson, which is not only a classic but also a favourite of mine. Will give this some more listening. Anyway, really nice work!
thanks for the comment! I totally agree with you. It was my first try of a Combat theme and I think It didn't fit properly with the general esthetic. I did it in a last minute try and I think I didn't give the idea enough time to sink in xD
