Message from the artist
I had recently learned of this "Comp Jam" from a Youtube video about writing music for games. It's a bummer I am now only hearing about this, but I hope to do future submissions from now on! This really was a lot of fun. Hopefully by next year or whenever the next jam is, I'll be up in experience when it comes to writing OSTs/tracks in general. Need to learn sound design, mixing/mastering, and better writing techniques :(
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I did this through sampling a girl's laugh as well as adding some either forward or reversed bubble sound effects in some of the tracks. These are mainly in the starting tracks, as it's meant to happy and kid-ish, until when the player progress further into the game does the OST become more plot focused.

Hey! I love long soundtracks!
You have made a large and full-fledged OST, which, thanks to its just perfect for the game. Cool!
The Labyrinth is My favorite)
I appreciate the feedback! X)
I think this works really well as a game OST! You've got music that would support a gameplay loop without overcrowding the player's senses. Really well done!
Thank you for your comment! X)
First of all, congratulations on how much music you managed to write in a week! Regarding the mix, I would have raised the volume a few dB because the tracks sound a bit low.
As for the music, I must say they are very fitting for a video game: minimal and suitable as an exploratory background for the player. Many missed this detail and focused more on the music itself rather than its purpose. Your music, on the other hand, would fit perfectly in a game, as they don't have too many distracting elements.
I think everything works very well, I must say. Nice submission 🙂
This was my first submission to this whole OST Comp Jam thing so I wasn't sure what was usual/typical, but I'm glad I got to submit what I did! :) Thank you for your feedback! X)
Most of the submissions I’ve heard are are attempting to be a stand alone piece but not here. This is probably the most actual video game OST I’ve heard. Not trying to be over the top but to lie behind an actual game. Something I worried about and struggled with myself actually when writing for my piece. I love FL as well. Awesome job!
When I saw OST in the name of the event, I anticipated that's what I'd see lots of, but even still all the submissions, whether multiple tracks or just a stand alone, have been extraordinary! Thanks for giving me a listen! X)
Day 4 of Rating Submissions With Few Ratings to Hopefully Get Some In Return
First off, I have to admit that I struggled a bit with this submission because its awkwardly quiet. I would listen on soundcloud and all of a sudden, an ad would come up or a discord notification sound and jumpscare me. if I was outside, listening on headphones, listening to this would be close to impossible.
The writing is simple, yet probably effective for the game concepts you are describing. Minimalism is ballsy in its own way, and not trying to play the game who can be the most flashy is respectable. A lot of tracks blewnd into the background easily, which, again, is perfectly fine as a game soundtrack. Us game composers often forget that the game should be the main attraction, not us and it was especially hard with a jam like this where no game exists at all. Therefore, I think you understood the assignment very well and executed it similarly strong, putting the loudness issues aside.
I have very little experience when it comes to optimizing the sound levels within instruments within a track, or really just mixing/mastering as a whole. I did do a re-upload of the OST with 'slightly' increased volume on YouTube, but at this point it's really just for quality of life for myself. I appreciate your feedback and I can't wait to give this OST Comp Jam another shot, this time with mixing/mastering under my belt. X)
Hi!
Your tracks aren't the most flashy I've ever heard, but these are the ones I could most imagine in an actual game. A lot of these sound really proffesional if a bit quiet. These would already fit really tightly into a lot of games.
I can also hear some hollow knight inspiration in quite a few tracks including 01 and 06. Not totally, but the pianos and the some of the strings
Overall great job! I am really impressed.
I have never played Hollow Knight or listened to its OST, but now that you've mentioned it I think it's worth the listen that way I can see which styles I might unintentionally borrowing from (in a good way XD). Thank you for your feedback! X)
As others have said, the overall level of the tracks is quite low - definitely worth boosting them up.
That aside, these are pretty good! Nice arrangements and the orchestral elements are well placed and articulated. The use of the bubble SFX to sell the underwater theme is cute, and they're sitting just a little back in the mix to prevent them from being too overpowering.
My favorite of the bunch is Puzzles and Mazes. You've got a knack for catchy and well thought-out progressions. Kudos for an almost minimalistic approach at points - I noticed that a couple of the tracks allow ample time to breathe and not become to busy or 'full' with instrumentation for the sake of it, and I think this track is a great example of that.
All in all, great work. The volume thing is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things - it doesn't detract from the quality and thought put into the arrangements.
I am flattered by your point-out of my liking/tendency torwards minimalism. I was debating on what kind of game/OST I wanted to go for, but I felt like a puzzle-RPG game would be most interesting. That being the case, you'd have to hear these tracks for maybe an hour, depending on how tough the puzzle, so I kept that in mind when writing most of the tracks, save for the story/plot related ones. A re-upload of the OST with 'slightly' increased volume has been uploaded to YouTube. As I said in another reply, at this point, it is just quality of life for me, but hey at least it's there. Thank you so much for your input! X)
the entire soundtrack is REALLY REALLY quiet. I also think that a lot of the tracks were rather empty feeling. My favorite track was the fight with Rueon because it had more of a melody to follow.
Yeah that's my bad X(
A re-upload has been posted on YouTube, but in truth, it is only just ever so slightly louder. :(
Thank you for your feedback though! X)
I think you should reupload a louder version of this soundtrack, I have the volume at 11 and I'm still struggling to make out the strings...
It's so late, but it has been done. I appreciate you listening though! X)
(Re-upload was made unto YouTube, overall soundtrack 'might' (might) be louder, but it is a very small difference.)
