Description
Unfortunately, I don't know genres at all, but the soundtrack uses almost solely a SoundFont (CC0) with all the sounds used in Undertale, so it has a retro/chiptune style to it. Apart from that, it's pretty dark, which is meant to reflect the feel of my game.
The game idea is a puzzle platformer called "Hiding Place." The main mechanic in the game would be things transforming when they get in shadow and using that to progress. However, when making this soundtrack, my main focus was on the story I was planning to tell.
TW: Suicide
You play as a girl named Bell who is trapped in, well, "The Hiding Place." However, in reality, Bell is actually in a coma after she attempted suicide. This reality she's trapped in is "her world," where she slowly tries to remember her life, face her inner demons (depression and self-hatred), and eventually gain the will to leave.
As you can see, this game is pretty dark, so I tried to reflect that in my soundtrack. However, the game wouldn't present you with all of the facts at first. The game would open with "how ive fallen," where some moments of her life would be shown in a cutscene, then a flash forward to her falling, then laying on the ground, then waking up. I've also thought that this track could maybe also be the main menu music. Not sure.
"the hiding place" would play during gameplay, as you try to solve puzzles using shadows and light. For that reason, it's a pretty chill track.
"im not hiding anymore" would play when you face the main boss, which is a dark creature representing your self-hatred. You would spend a great deal of the game running from this creature, and this would be you finally facing it. For that reason, it's more energetic than dark, which I'm not sure if I like. Oh well.
Lastly, "all my fault" would play when you gain your memories back after fighting self-hatred. It would play during a cutscene showing the events leading up to Bell jumping, and then her actually jumping from the ledge. So the track is meant to represent the dark realization that she did this. Again, not sure if this track turned out as I would've liked.
I created every track in FL Studio, which I finally started using for this jam. I had used it before, but mainly I made my previous music on a site called UltraBox.
I've only started making music in the last year and a half, and this is some of the only music I've released publicly. Hope it's okay :)
Message from the artist
This soundtrack is a bit interesting because although I'm supposed to make a soundtrack for a hypothetical game, the game that will use this soundtrack I'm planning to make a reality! As of writing, I'm currently working on a game for Pirate Software - Game Jam 15. That game jam has the theme "Shadows and Alchemy," and this jam has the theme "Inside my World." So I'm making a game that combines the themes, a game I call "Hiding Place." And I'm hoping to use this OST for that game - or at least most of it. I plan on reworking it a bit for the final game, but I thought it would be a fun extra challenge to combine these jams, so I did! :)
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The game that the soundtrack is based on is about a girl living in a world constructed by her mind while she's in a coma, so she is "Inside her world."

I especially enjoyed the tail end of "How I've Fallen" ^_^
Probably one of the simplest yet most creative submissions I've heard so far.
I loved the first song, and the others are also very good, the looks are very good.
Great job!
If anyone else comes to read this, I just wanted to update everyone and say that the game I was making this soundtrack for is done! (Or at least the game jam version of the game is, I may work on it more in the future).

The Continued Quest To rate Albums with few Submissions to Hopefully Get Some In Return
If you really only have been doing music for a year, stellar job. Good understanding of harmony and how it relates to melody to evoke emotions and very purposeful execution and instrumentation. Synth pads sound very good. Well done.
Nice melodies. Leitmotiv very well treated it! It gave a lot of cohesion to your work.
The color pallet of your OST suits really well with the lovely cover art!
Well done!
I liked the last track the best. The Synth worked really well and I liked when it faded out to reveal the quieter synth.
How Ive Fallen - Mh...I love the fact that the first half of the track is a regular piano and then the chiptune kicks in!
The Hiding Place - A dark composition... It makes me feel uncomfortable, lol
Im Not Driving Anymore - GOOD... now I feel even more uncomfortable..... That broken percussion does a pretty good job of creating atmosphere and preparing the player for another appearance of chiptune sounds
All My Fault - Good. Now I feel sad too...
In fact, your work works very well with my emotions. Recently, I've been through a lot of disappointments in myself and was actually on the verge of what the main character of your story did... You managed to perfectly convey the emotional state of an abandoned person who hates himself (Listening to All My Fault, I burst into tears, heh...)
My only complaint is the slightly muddy resonance and reverb..... Otherwise - very cool and curious work. Well done! Thank you)
Very well thought out and constructed with only a year and a half into composition. You should be very proud, this is solid work!
The music fully captures the protagonist's heartbreaking pain. The mix and composition of the tracks are good, but you could improve them by adding some details in the background and cleaning up the reverb and resonance a bit, in my opinion. Your strong point (which is the most important detail) is the underlying idea: you have it, and it works. Because of this, when I listen to the music, I can enter the world you want to describe. Experience will help you improve the technical aspects, but good ideas are either there or they're not, and you have very good ones in my humble opinion!
Amazing! Love all of the tracks but "How I've Fallen" is my favorite. I love the chord progression and how the synth melody and piano melody interact. Great work!
Solid cohesive vibe throughout! My stuff was nowhere near this good after just a year and a half making music, im a little jealous :D. Only thing i can give a little feedback on is that the pretty constant prominent percussion might get a bit annoying to a player if the puzzle they are facing is too hard/takes them some time, but this is mostly a personal thing, so you can take it with a grain of salt. You should link the game on the jam discord when its done, so people can give it a try then.
Very consistent, liked your darker approach. I'm Not Hiding Anymore and All My Fault have to be my favorites, they made great use of the piano, and the latter had a solid melody. Loved it!
Solid work! I love the warmth your tracks give with the retro sound selection. The first track gives me OMORI vibes, and I love the change of pace in the third track. It's especially impressive since you only have 1.5 years on your belt and just started using FL! (you'll love FL by the way) Congrats on the OST release and I hope to see more!
Thank you so much! I can definitely see the OMORI connection. It wasn't a direct inspiration, but I have played OMORI and the soundtrack is really good, so that's a huge compliment. I should probably clarify that I didn't *just* start using FL - I have used it before, but it was the free version and I was mainly just messing around. However, I did just recently purchase FL (for this jam as a matter of fact), and I'm glad I did. It's been a blast to use.
Again, thank you so much for the kind words. I'll be sure to check out your submission as well. :)
