Description
I used FL Studio to make my music. I loosely settled on the idea of the game having a story about a few people from different worlds who wind up having to team up together to... I dunno, solve mysteries and save the world(s) and so forth.
And so, I tried representing that idea by having three different pairs of a "character theme" and a "world theme". Again, I didn't worry about coming up with all the precise details, but the rough concepts for each are:
- A person with magic, from some strange fantasy-ish land that normally stays hidden from the mundane world. [character theme: "a mischievous stranger"; world theme: "a peculiar world"]
- A person from the far future, who traveled back in time to the present day. (Maybe they came intentionally, or maybe it happened through some kind of accident?) [character theme: "visitor from tomorrow"; world theme: "the world yet to come"]
- A mysterious person with a mysterious past, from some mysterious place shrouded in mystery. (Not that they're deliberatively being secretive; they're also trying to solve the mystery of themselves. Perhaps they lost their memories; perhaps they learned there was some dark secret in their past; perhaps the world they knew had vanished without a trace...) [character theme: "exile from nowhere"; world theme: "a forgotten world"]
Each character also shares a leitmotif with their world (or at least, that's what I aimed for, in any case), as well as some shared instrumentation and such. I also tried to make the different worlds/characters have themes in very different styles, both to connect the characters with their own worlds and to emphasize how different their respective worlds are from each other.
I also made a few additional tracks, because I really am not great at managing my time. (Yeah, sure, I could probably make two more tracks AND also handle all of the exporting/uploading/submitting/etc. all on the last day, that's totally a reasonable workload to give myself. Incidentally, it is 30 minutes before the deadline as I write this, and I did not sleep last night.)
Those other tracks are:
- "of other worlds": Probably a title screen or menu theme? (or a theme for an early location in the game?) Regardless, this track would have to be the "main theme" more than any of the others. The track starts with a short melodic phrase that I consider the "main motif" of the game, and which I tried to include in some form in every track.
- "the space between worlds": Theme for a hub world/world map/etc. Goes along with the previous theme, as sort of a pair of their own, with this one giving a different atmosphere to some of the same melodic ideas.
- "the fate of all worlds": A final boss theme, or a theme for some similarly climactic moment. Also known as "I just bought this choir plugin and I'm damn well gonna take this opportunity to use it"
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
As I mentioned in my description above, the characters are all from their own different worlds (which they'll all presumably have to discover/explore/save/etc. together at some point)

Heh... interesting fact: at the end of your soundtrack, I almost fell asleep (Because I didn't sleep for ~30 hours straight HAHAHA)... and I'm writing a comment just now. Heh)
Your soundtrack sounds incredibly lively, diverse, dreamy and EPIC! I like it!
a forgotten world is my favorite. I love this synthesizer solo and the combination of melody in my right and left ear... thank you!
Interesting ideas here. You have a lot of variety, with some marked shifts in tone between each of the three character's associated songs; the little bit of chaos in "a mischievous stranger," the upbeat synth vibes in "visitor from tomorrow" and the mysterious, not quite ominous atmosphere of "a forgotten world." "the fate of all worlds" sounds like it could be more of a final dungeon leading up to the climax kind of theme, at least to my ears. Overall, an enjoyable listen, nice work!
(I, too, bought a fancy new VST to play with during this jam btw)
This OST reminded me of flash game music in a good way!
Your OST is full of creativity. So many genres and everything well executed, loved it!
The variety of genres really showed off your skills, fantastic work!
You did a nice job making each track distinct and fit its title/usage in your game! I loved the sound choices in "a forgotten world", very eerie and mesmerizing. Definitely my favorite track.
I think a little more fullness in some of the more energetic mixes here (like "the world yet to come") would have been helpful, either through EQ/saturation/more layers
Good work!
You have lots of differing sounds and ideas represented here, which is really impressive given the time we had to work on this! I think your writing skills are pretty good as well, lots of creative melody and supporting ideas made these really enjoyable to listen to. I Think you could experiment more with having a more rich and thick musical texture, try seeing if more instruments filling out those chords is something that you think works well with your style, because I think it could be a cool thing to develop on!
I like the diversity of genres that exists in this OST as it fits with the idea of your game. Very good composition work that shows your skills with different groups of instruments and styles. Very interesting approach!
The titles and songs were very fitting . Quite the versatile roster of some cool ideas, skillfully executed.
I enjoyed your treatment of the harmonic material overall, but especially in the first track! Also noticed and liked the (I think intentional?) interpolation of Marble Hill zone you had in the 7th and 8th tracks. I think you had a strong main motif, definitely tied things together! Good work!
Very well done! I like the range of sounds and feels you created
