Description
I pictured the game being a story driven action/adventure game with souls-like elements. The goal would be to escort the young White Dragon somewhere, perhaps to the mountains of it's ancestors.
'The Journey Begins' would be the opening credits/cinematic after the game starts. It represents the White Dragon.
'A Parting of Ways' would play around the last half of the game as part of a cutscene where the player must separate from their dragon companion for a time (maybe to never see each other again?)
The genre of the tracks would be classified as epic orchestral, with heavy Japanese influences. Very inspired by Joe Hisaishi and Takeshi Furukawa's work.
Message from the artist
Really enjoyed this, S/O to LoneRabbit for hosting.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I got two main feelings from looking at the image: beginnings and endings. It looks like it could be the start or the end of a great journey.
I imagine that the dragon and the human share a special bond, and only together can they succeed in their quest to return him to his ancestral home. For him it shall be the beginning of his new, immortal life; for her, the end of a cherished friendship.

beautiful work
Thank you!
Very beautiful!! Loved your composition on this
Appreciate it, glad you enjoyed it
Nice work here! I love the brass voices used and the atmosphere presented. It gives diversity between the two.
Thanks! I love writing for brass, so I'm glad you liked those sections.
the brass in the journey begins is so wonderful!! quite envious as i'm still very unsure of how to properly use brass myself. definitely hear the hisaishi on a parting of ways-- the chord movements on the strings for that first half are extremely similar to the legend of ashitaka from princess mononoke
Thank you! Brass can be tough for sure, especially when mixing. French Horns especially have a lot of mud in their lower register.
What's funny is that I haven't watched 'Princess Mononoke' yet and consequently haven't heard the soundtrack haha. Just listened to 'The Legend of Ashitaka' though and can definitely hear the resemblance. I learned about quartal harmony from Hisaishi's work (particularly 'Spirited Away'), he loves that sound and so do I.
This is the very last entry I am ranking. #126!
What a way to go out too! The journey begins was so climactic and cool!
I kind of wish that the energy stayed for a parting of ways too but I did still really enjoy the climax of that song it was very peaceful and nice!
Thank you, cool that I was the last entry for you haha.
I definitely wanted to expand the OST, but my day job takes away a lot of my time. I decided to go with the 'beginning and endings' theme since that felt the most complete to me (briefly contemplated writing a character creation theme instead but I felt like that would have been a bit anticlimactic lol). Thanks for listening and rating!
Great work! Feels like the listener is transferred to an ancient world. I really enjoyed the build-up and Japanese influence within the pieces - well done! :)
Appreciate it!
Solid compositions. Good work!
Thank you!
The Journey Begins: Bombastic! Gets me amped for a good journey ahead. Loved that little unexpected touch of Dorian in the melody where the track had been natural minor up to that point.
A Parting Of Ways: Nice calm outro! Those chords are tricky for me to identify which is rare lmao. Gives a really unique sound. And then the erhu in the second half! Beautiful.
Great work!
Thanks! Bombastic and epic is indeed what I was going for with ' The Journey Begins'. With 'A Parting of Ways' I wanted to use some of the quartal chord voicings that I learned from Joe Hisaishi's work.
Loved the cinematic aspect and your orchestration too! When I listen to The Journey of Beginnings, I feel like I wanna go on an adventure too. Even though it is 1:30am right now and I'm so tired, haha.
The second track made me feel so confused, because I was ready to embark on an adventure and I am already parting ways. But in all seriousness, I enjoyed the harmony and the way the melody is exchanged throughout the track. I also really liked the transition to the Chinese instruments.
Thanks, glad you liked my work! I wanted to write more and fill out the OST (and the journey lol), but with my day job I only had so much time. I decided to go for a duality: beginnings and endings. I'm thinking about expanding the OST on SC at some point though, so we'll see what happens. Maybe you'll get to go on the journey after all haha
It's incredibly beautiful! The voices at the end of the songs delight the ears!
Appreciate it!
Really like how it was mysterious at the start yet when the erhu comes in with the piano, it feels like the fogs are cleared up and the world is shown to us
Thank you! Wanted to channel some Studio Ghibli vibes with that piece.
The intro to Journey Begins is magical and I'm fan of the Game of Thrones/Age of Empires vibes - it really slaps. The horns sound great.
Big fan of the quartal Princess Mononoke start to Parting of Ways and the sparse piano is beautiful. Great use of the Koto/Shamisen (I think?), you have a real knack for adding a sense majesty to your music.
Thank you, glad you liked them (nice catching the quartal chords, one of my favorite sounds since first hearing them in the 'Spirited Away' soundtrack). Also the instrument that you're hearing in 'A Parting of Ways' is the Yangqin. The one that I used is a free one Kontakt released awhile back, excellent VST.
Wow thanks for letting me know! I’m snagging that, it sounds really good and you used it well. I also love that quartal sound in Spirited Away, I got so excited when I heard it.
