Summarise your game!
In Mr You!!! on ice, play as a porcupine trying to stay safe in the ice arena while defending from balloons! Knock-off arena action upgrade survivor score attack.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Mr You, the porcupine, is the natural predator of the balloons. That is why the ballons are trying to blow him out of the arena! Well, it is a bit of a thematic catch on the fact that the quills on the porcupine is the weapon used against the balloons lol.
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
This is my third game, and my wife does the art. Any suggestion on paths to improve are very welcomed! both in art and gameplay.

Nice one! For some reason I liked this game quite a bit, may be the mechanic, may be the charm, may be the difficulty, I don't know. It do hit a sweet spot on the arcade game difficulty and length. As for some critique, I'd say the red balloon, which is the first enemy ever encounter, is way to quick and strong, so that you easily lose on the very first level, and that is not ideal. Also, using 1,2,3 to select upgrades is a bit odd. We are using the mouse for most of the time anyway so why not use the mouse instead?
Anyway, good job!
the reason to not use the mouse is so that you dont click accidentaly between waves on it! Also, I programmed it in C and havent made selection boxes with click yet so thought it would also make my life easier to just use a number haha
thanks for the input. One thing I would change at this point is limit the red balloon max speed more (there is a limit but is too high at the moment). it could even scale with wave number, as some things in this game do. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!
Devilishly difficult. Having upgrades tied to the enemy placement is a great way to scale the game, but may require a bit of balancing since I was only able to survive few rounds before restarting [Possible skill issue on my part]. Controls feel great and visuals work n-ice-ly!
It is a mix of skill issue and bad balancing I would say! haha.
Ty for you input!
I love the small arena and enemy count survival mechanics. Each enemy and action feels like it has higher stakes when compared to standard survivals. Really brings a more arcade easy to learn / hard to master feeling too.
I do enjoy a difficult game that makes you just want to retry and play again, which you've got - but it ends a little early for my taste so the starting difficulty & scaling would be my main tweak suggestion.
I didn't want to take the reduce recoil because I like the extra speed from boosting away from reds or the edge of the arena.
Thank you for the feedback! Definetly the progression is too steep. something to consider if I ever polish this game further. =)
I think the knockback could be tuned down some, it's hard to stay in the center. Seems the best strategy is to move very little and shoot very accurately. But the movement does feel kinda fun so I wanted to move. 2nd wave seems super hard with 3-4 red balloons coming at me so fast. You've got a good foundation here tho! Really nice job! oh and i like the art too :)
I agree very much that the knockback should be lower - also the ice should have a bit more friction. ended up not playtesting the game enough, but I think it is fun!
Thank you a lot for the feedback!
Very cute and fun to play! It is quite difficult to stay inside the circle when building up movement speed, especially when you are shooting, but maybe I'm just not a good gamer. I also like your take on the theme and the animations you made!
its definetly a hard game. I think the most I could get to was wave 13 or something. Thank you for the feedback!
