  • The game plays well, though I feel, that the wall jump is a tad awkward, the timing feels of and I want to jump between walls and not jump on one wall all the time. The Theme is a bit week. Power-Ups are as potions are okay, but using light to activate/deactivate spike traps doesn't feel right, they should be there and reveal to not run into them. It is a basic platformer, so nothing new. But I like the art style and the music, though the environment could be a bit more pirate-like to support the narrative.

Platformer game that was inspired by Celeste. The story is based on a lost pirate called Captain Hookhand who drank so much that he woke up inside a dungeon. The controls are simple, the player can jump and interact with various things like potions, levers etc. The goal is to get to the end of the dungeon.

Extra Notes
Hope you like it, this was my very first game jam.

Awesome work for you first jam! The art, music, and lighting were all great! Controls and gameplay felt very natural and polished, and I really like the potion transformation/powerup idea. Level design was well done with a good mix of puzzle/difficulty. Great submission!

Thanks :)

I liked the art and light effects. The music was good too but it felt too upbeat but that's just me. Movement also feels good but i think wall jumps could be faster. Beside this little issues good job!

Developer

Thanks, yeah, making wall jumping is harder than it sounds :D

Lovely retro pixel art, great game play and level design and innovative game mechanic! Good use of the theme, it all works well together. Keep up the good work!

Amazing job on your first game jam, especially considering you done it solo. I definitely had a massive skill issue on the last level with the wall jump mechanic :D The visuals, music and sfx were put together wonderful. It had its own little cozy vibe. The wake up at the start was a neat little detail that I loved.

I don't really know what to suggest for improvements as the game feels great. Maybe work a little bit more on wall jump mechanic to make it more forgiving and easy but thats massively subjective. Maybe you achieved the mechanics that you intended.

Good job on the game!

Thanks, the wall jumping is not as good as I wanted to be so I need to improve that. I wanted one like in Celeste, but it took way too much time to make it feel good.

Understandable. We also wanted to have a wall jump as one of the skills (scrolls) and even did a POC on that but decided to spend time on other things :)

Fantastic! Really good work for your first jam. Well designed and nice difficulty curve. Felt a little punishing in the last level but still pretty good.image.png
