  • So this game is obviously very bare bones and simple, but I like the ideas you put forth of playing as the monster trying to stop someone from escaping! The themes however are fairly superficial, like the shadows are there but aren't really used mechanically, and greg is an alchemist but there aren't any alchemical mechanics. This game has a lot of potential to be fun and interesting! Its just not quite up to snuff for now, but keep working on it! You got something good here

Yes

Tell us about your game!
It's an fps where you control the monster, and the goal is to kill Greg the Alchemist before he escapes the dungeon. Controls are WASD movement, left click to attack, and hold left shift to walk. Greg will try to hide, panic and run away, or throw a stun potion at you depending on if he sees or hears you etc.

Extra Notes
The lighting is unfortunately messed up in the webGl build, and I was unable to fix it. The lights seem to go on and off without reason causing the game to be much darker than intended.

I feel bad for Greg :(((

But also super fun little game :) I managed to win by getting Greg stuck hahaha

Can be a little bit dark and hard to see, maybe I'm missing if theres a light button?

Developer

Thank you! Yeah the AI isn't exactly perfect...! Also don't worry, you didn't miss anything - the game is just too dark in WebGL unfortunately, so if I continue working on it I need to use a different lighting strategy for web so that the lights actually work hehe.

Developer

If you're interested, the lighting has been fixed and should look better now

i love the concept and it has a lot of potential to be scaled with abilities and more levels! or even multiplayer as a  "hide and seek"

Developer(+1)

I did originally have plans for more abilities for both the player and for Greg, but time ran out fast haha. Someone else also mentioned multiplayer to me, and I hadn't even considered it, but yeah it could totally work with some tweaks!

This is a fun little concept! The atmosphere looks real nice and I like playing the monster, it's a cool idea.

I agree with some others below that it's a bit too dark. One option would be to increase the ambient light. Another might be to use shaders, which could be tweaked to change based on what the monster is doing.

Either way, a pretty fun little concept!

Developer

Thanks for trying, glad you found some fun! Yeah the darkness is #1 priority to be fixed if I continue working on it. Thanks for the tips!

Oh this is much better, way easier to read what is going on!!!

I killed the douche !!!! Had a lots of fun running around and attacking him.

A suggestion - maybe add a little more light. The scene seems too dark.

Fun game !!! Looking forward to more levels !!!!

Developer

Thank you for trying it, glad you had some fun! The scene is definitely too dark, so I want to fix this and make a different lighting solution that works with WebGL. And I hope to make a few more levels and more AI interactions =)

Submitted

Could be a bit more bright, but a fun and innovative concept that was well executed

Developer

Thank you very much! Once the jam is over I want to fix the too dark lighting! :)

I love the idea, finally a game that lets me play the bad guy (or creature)! Would be more enjoyable with a bit more brightness though in my opinion

Developer

I totally agree - the screenshots are a better example of what I was aiming for. Thanks for trying!

Same thing with the lights happened to our game... Fortunately my brother immediately got to work on it and managed to find a solution. Apparently you can't have more than a couple lights in WebGL, and reusing the same few materials (less than 10) helps a lot too. If it wasn't for him our game wouldn't look the way it does.

Developer

Yeah that is what I immediately suspected, but I didn't have time to fix it :( It was surprisingly hard to find a solution for it online. Oh well, it is what it is!

Great atmosphere, environment art, game mechanic and level design. It's an innovative idea to play as a monster with a human as the enemy, he was very evasive hiding in the shadows to start with and escaped me but I sadly I soon caught him and the game was soon over, with a little more time you can improve on this to add a lot more replay-ability!

Developer

Thank you very much! Yeah the AI is not anywhere near perfect, even though that's one of the things I spent the most time on haha. I originally wanted to get 2-3 levels done, but of course I ran out of time

This was a fun concept! As you mentioned pretty dark lighting, but I kinda like that since you feel a bit more like the monster in their element attacking Greg, it would be fun to play with some night vision or something. The stun effect was really good and feels like you get hit pretty hard.

I'd love to see how you could expand this with different arcane characters being given to the monster to hunt!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! There were plenty of possible effects,  buffs/debuffs, and even traps I had planned, but I ran out of time for that :)

I like the idea about having different types of characters to hunt down, I had not thought of that and that would give it some nice variation!
