  • GDD: The document seems good. I like how detailed gameplay section is, and the uses of gifs to visualized the context for transformation. I would suggest to put sections on design and art, it would be nice to see the thoughts behind the art and level design. Even if it is hard to design levels and the flow of the levels, it is still nice to understand the progress behind. Game: The game feels very animal well-like, and I think it would be nice to have an main menu with options to change the music volume & remapping. I like the secret stars, but I think the camera zoom is probably a little too much. It would be nice if it was a little zoom out, so one can spot the hints for the stars. It would be nice if one could transformed from other forms into new forms than having stone form, revert back to neutral to grab water form for example. A lot of levels are point of no returns areas until the end level where one can freely transforming. It would be better if it was focused on backtracking so the player in neutral form can find the stars if they managed to play in later levels and didnt realized until that point, but can still go back without needed for freely forms. Bug: * When I got the fire transformation, the game frozed for a little while. * You can softlock in the first goblin camp area with the gate underground. If you entered with a stone transformation, and undo the transformation - then you cannot jump back up to grab the stone transformation again in neutral form. * one of the star cannot be reached by jump's height in early levels. * I see a visual bug on the button for the gate. it has like a black line to the left.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes!

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes!

Summarise your game!
Absorbia is a 2D platformer following the adventure of a little slime who has the ability to consume parts of the environment to take on elemental properties. Which allows them to either defend themselves or traverse areas they couldn’t as their normal self.

The controls are in the description under the game window :)

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player, being a slime creature, can absorb different elements to change its form. In this way the player can use this element that is a part of itself as a weapon to progress through the game. The player is essentially the weapon and changes its weapon type based on what it consumes!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
In particular, level clarity/ design and flow. We struggled a lot getting good level designs, some additional focus and feedback on this would be greatly appreciated! Of course, any feedback is welcome.

Cool game! The game is cute and has interesting puzzles with the different elemental properties. Charming stuff. Good work!

Interesting puzzle like game. I liked the cute art aesthetic. I liked the changing element mechanic. Think you could do some cool stuff with that idea! I think your audio node is in the scene itself as a positional node instead of being at the root btw. I could see this get pretty crazy.  I got 4/8 stars! So def missed some stuff.

Puzzles were fun! Took me a second to learn how to fly properly but then it was really easy!

Developer(+1)

Yeah I should have made it more clear how to fly. It was like, 3am though I was sleepy 🤣 Glad you had fun though

Cool slimes! The puzzle-solving mechanic with the slimes was enjoyable

Very cute game! Both art and concept.

The only thing I'd suggest is make controls smoother - the movement is a bit too sharp, I think. Maybe use acceleration, or if you are using tweens - make it not linera but sine, etc.

Also, when you activate fire for the first time - the game freezes for about a minute. I think that's the common issue with Godot particles, which I heard is getting fixed in the new version. There is some workaround about it though - like instantiate it while you are loading the game, so it won't take time during the game, or something like that.

Also cudos for godot!

Developer

Movement is a character controller I control completely manually, I agree that the falloff is quite harsh and I'll keep it in mind that it needs a few tweaks!

I noticed the stutter with the fire,  but couldn't find a fix (outside of the github issue saying it would be fixed in future versions) I will look into fixing that though. Seems to work fine in the editor.

Having a blast with godot after I stopped using a certain other engine! :)

Yep, I've heard it becomes an issue only in a web version. I didn't touch particles yet, so I just share what I've heard :)
