As others mentioned controls are bit wonky.Loved that art style.

Developer

Thanks, next time, I want to make the sensitivity adjustable, so I wouldnt have these problems anymore.

Thanks

Submitted(+1)

I like the artstyle and while it does lack polish, you can't always polish a lot of things during such a short timeframe. Unreliable torch picking was quite annoying, I sometimes struggled picking them up. Also I don't know if you guys made that torch particle or not but damn it looks pretty nice

Developer(+1)

I worked on it alone. Could you explain the torch picking up?

Also, the fire effect was made out of a tutorial. I can send you the link if you want it.

Submitted

I'm not quite sure how to explain it, I go near a torch and I have to press it multiple times sometimes until it finally lets me pick it up, it just feels a little unresponsive I guess?

Submitted

I think it happens most when there is ghost debris covering the torch, or sometimes in bonfires? Maybe I'm just overestimating the pickup range

Developer

I will try to check this.

When experiencing trouble, are you shown the text: Press E to take torch ?

Or are you pressing when nearby and aimed at them.

The range of picking them up is not that far, might make it a little longer. Thanks

Submitted (1 edit)

Yeah when I'm near bonfires it shows the text and sometimes I need to press it multiple times to pick it up, although sometimes I get it first try

Developer(+1)

Will look into that. Thanks

No problem! Have a nice day, and good luck devving

Lighting makes this game cool)

The weakest point I've found though is controls. Because the mouse doesn't warp at the edges or somehow else overcome screen limitation you often find yourself in a situation when you can't turn in the needed direction.
Died like that.

Also it feels like probably bonfires should have infinite torches or sth like that.

Developer(+1)

Could you please explain how you mean you cant rotate ? I locked the mouse in the middle, so I dont know why it doesnt work. Could you tell me where you encountered this issue ?

I felt the way, that if fires had infinite number of torches, you could just stand next to one, and kill everyone. This way, you have to care about the number of torches you use, and have to carefuly thrown them.

Submitted

I mean that when the (hidden) mouse pointer smashes against the edge of the screen you can't rotate farther in this direction.
It is a universal problem throughout the game.
I'm sure that it's the case because when the pointer exits the game area I can see it and see that it is for a fact smashing against the edge.
Though now when I'm testing it the problem occurs only in my Chromium-based browser and not in Gecko-based one.

Developer

I am sure, I locked the mouse in the middle, so it shouldnt be happening. Sorry for your experience.

Submitted

Well, Gecko-based browser reports locking and locks allright so at least some locking code is in there.
Most probably it is just how different browsers react to different pointer-grabbing attempts though I don't have any prohibitive settings of this sort enabled.

You probably might want to test with different browsers and try different methods and workarounds. The Chromium-based browser that fails to be locked for example is Falkon (it is not an obscure title in Linux world).
If it turns out to be the problem with the browser you can open an issue here at their repo https://github.com/KDE/falkon  with your game as a testcase or even fix it yourself or make a warning on the game page that pointer-grabbing might fail with some browsers.

Developer (1 edit)

Will llook into it. However I dont use Linux, so I might not be any help.

Submitted

It all works on Windows too cause the magic of opensource. Almost every foss browser does. No probs here.

It is just I wouldn't disregard the possibility that Unity or Itch use not fully compliant methods to cut development time or whatever. In this case some settings/HTML shell/Javascript tweaking might be needed.
Unfortunately I haven't tried to make a mousegrab in my Godot to test things so i can't tell what exactly might be going on under the hood.

Submitted

Tested in other Chromium (qt5webengine)-based browser Eric (specialized browser for web development and debug), this one reports attempts to grab mouse and seemingly grabs and hides it if allowed but the rotation angle is still limited(
Seems like a persistent problem not limited to Falkon.

Developer

I am sorry, but I just cant keep up with you at this point. If you want to do something about the problem, feel free to use my game, I will not sue you or some EU mess. All I used was - Cursor.lockState = CursorLockMode.Locked; Something like this.

Submitted(+1)

Love the vibe of this, super simple, great use of colour and light. There might be some room to improve the general feel of the game, things like mouse sensitivity and how fast the projectiles actually move. Really atmospheric.

Developer(+1)

This is a problem I have had with more games - the mouse settings. When editing, it was all good, but when I made the final product and tested it, it was super highly sensitive.

Next time, I will probably add settings and a slider there, to solve this problems.

Thanks for feedback.

Really nice game, it is impressive how  much you managed to get done in just two days! i especially liked the animation when you hit a ghost with a torch it is very satisfying, overall great job! One thing I would add if you are planning on continuing the game would be  maybe a bit more guidance on where you should go?

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot. I wanted to write somewhere, that you should follow the path of torches, but didnt finish that. The path is still there though.

Submitted(+1)

I really expected a bow or something... It looks nice though but it lacks gameplay

Developer

There is not much you can fit inside 2 days. However, a bow would be pretty much the same, instead of torches, it would fire arrows, and without spin.

Sorry if i was a bit rude... And what was the deal with torches?  As there were no rules or anything that i found.

Developer

No, not rude at all. Sorry if I sounded like that. (Feel like a Canadian now :D) The deal with torches ? I wanted to make a game situated in night. I needed to light it up somehow, and so I added campfire. Then I also wanted the player to be able to see around themselves, so I added torches. And since I wanted some kind of action, I made the torches a weapon as well.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah thats the part that wasnt explained or i missed it...

Submitted(+1)

it's nice and it works well, by cons damage not having put a border because I fell into the void :)

Developer

I will add it tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback.
