Wish I had played it during GMTK, but that was one hell of a week for me.

At the beginning when it's showing the credits it feels a bit weird to transition into the menu without transitioning, maybe it was supposed to be some sort of fading effect?

OMG this game made me  feel so horrible! I mean, the starting cutscene was very good but damn... poor geckos!

Art is cute! Music is also nice, although it's sort of funny to have such an upbeat song with such a sad background story.

The hitbox in the tail is kinda unforgiving sometimes, not a big deal I guess.

Overall this was amazing, really neat idea and nicely polished. I'd only complain about the hiccups in entering the menu and starting the game for the first time with the tutorial. Congratulations!

Finally got around to play this one, cinematic intro was a pleasant surprise!
Nice take on og game.

On to them topics, then:

Gameplay
:
the only problem I had is that 3d fire height is somewhat hard to eyeball, like, sometimes you feel like you gonna make only to underjump by a little. Otherwise, it works.

Art/Animations
:
I lack competency to go into details, sry. Everything seems to be working together, looks tasteful.

Sound design:
Overall, it's okay. But i'd like to point out few potential issues:
1) seems like a bit too much sub bass on the intro theme(menu), was using headphones while playing - intro got me lil uncomfortable, so I went to check and here it is:

2) Main theme starts a bit rushed, I think it. Maybe it would be cool to start it with a lower tempo and speed it up gradually or keep changing themes along the gameplay.

Overall, I liked the game, none of them issues listed above are really a problem.

In fact, the only real thing that actually  bothered me was "throwing a gecko" restart animation/sequence. I felt kinda sad for lil guy, don't like to see em gettin' hurt.

And now, the real question - can you make it into chrome extension?)

The intro is great and I liked the innovative take on the chrome dinosaur! It's like a no-internet game... but it makes me feel bad.

I agree with the other comment -- the music feels like a mismatch. I would expect something a more somber given that we're chucking lizards at a wall to start a run.

Other than that, my only qualm was that I had a really hard time timing the jump. It felt like it went up higher than I anticipated and I never made it over the obstacles. Otherwise, I liked that there were obstacles to keep an eye on in both areas of the screen. Using both the shadow and the treadmill was clever, and it would be really cool to see a platformer in this style.

Woah this is really clever how both the gecko and silhouette have their own environment. Smooth game as well damn.

Plus the reference to the chrome game is on point.

“Throw the next gecko” is probably the single most depressing game over continuation prompt I’ve ever seen. Especially when you actually click the button or press the spacebar and have to look at that gecko cry.

This is an excellent game, though. It is very well put together and very much realizes the scope that you guys appear to have set for it. You have an excellent art style and all of the animations were fluid. The game itself is fun.

The only bit of feedback I would give that would be somewhat critical, is that the art music style is actually very jarring when considering the game’s backstory is essentially animal abuse. It’s too cheery. But that may also be exactly what you’re going for. I’d leave it up to you to determine whether or not that’s “working” the way you intend.

Good work.

Loved this game when i first saw it on the GMTK game jam! i like how you have used shadows to fit the theme of 'built to scale' something that didn't occur to me but a clever and interesting way of applying the theme!

It is a very addicting and fast game! i always went back to try and beat my high score everytime i failed. It can be suprisingly tricky to keep track of both the background and the obstacles on the floor :)

only visual tweak i could think of could be to maybe make the gecko's shadow be more connected to the gecko? adding some spotlight type lights could make the scene feel a little less bright too?

amazing game overall and a unique take on an original classic.

OMG the poor gecko! I feel so bad for it :(

The game does feels polished, good music, appealing art. It’s a “beat your high score game” with a bit of a twist in that you have to essentially control two characters at once.

Where to take it from here…? Add some unlockables in the form of new characters. Something to keep the players wanting to continue.

A very well done game! Have to say I'm personally not that much into side-scrollers, and never played that much the velociraptor game in Chrome. But, I enjoyed playing your game thousand times more that the Chrome game.

I found the animations very very fluid, I really liked the animation at the start of the gameplay (it made me feel a bit sad, but it is the kind of dark humour I like), and from animation point of view it's perfect.

I had an issue with the main menu screen, as the Logo Images were on top of the menu and I could not see the contents of the menu. At the end I pressed enter or clicked around and the game started (but I could not change the music settings). Maybe it's just my computer but wanted to let you know. Overall, the UI elements design is awesome.

The music and sounds match the entire game and is consistent. The gameplay, which to me is the core of games, is very original. Never expected someone would see the velociraptor as a projected shadow. I liked the change size feature and that depending on the size you jump more or less high. Also, the meteorites make the game very dynamic as you have to check both the projection and the 3D.

At the end, I could make until a very sad 350 points of score. The new elements make the game quite more difficult that the original velociraptor. I had tons of fun playing your game.

Suggestion for improvement: add a story mode in addition to free running mode. This story mode would focus on passing levels (reaching certain score for example) and having story between levels. You can even add boss fight levels. You already created a very funny animation and story at the beginning, I think it would be just build on top of that.

Where to start?

An absolutely amazing game, I've sunk more hours of my life into that offline dinosaur game than I care to admit going so far as to purposely shut my data off just to play it and to think simply adding 3D and falling meteors would change so much of it is amazing. On its surface it seems like a very basic addition but adds so much to the gameplay, the strategy required is definitely a major positive for me. I got sucked in way too hard for longer than I'd care to admit. The music adds so much to the feel of the game as well. If I had to summarize this game, I'd have to say just perfection. This game has been added to my personal collection and I've followed your account. I'm unsure as to whether you plan to continue development, but if so I look forward to playing any future updates. If not, I can't wait to see what you do next.

Also, sidenote not related to the game per-se but absolutely loved the design of the page itself.

.....Also, poor geckos :(

Wow, thank you so much for the incredibly kind words! It’s amazing to hear that you had so much fun playing the game and that the additions made such a big impact for you. We don’t have any concrete plans to update the game, but we might occasionally invest some time in developing it further. Is there anything you’d like to see improved or extended in a future update? :)

A fresh take on a classic game. I love the intro animation along with shadow mechanics. Everything was great and I don't really have anything to add. I did try and cheese my way to the end by standing as far from the screen as possible but the pterodactyls got me eventually. Great work!

The game is really good and the idea is amazing. I already played the gmtk version and it's a shame you didn't get the top 100. Truly amazing game. Would have loved to see more game modes in the future!

Developer(+1)

Wow, it’s awesome to hear that you played the GMTK version too! Thanks so much for thinking it deserved to be in the top 100. We’d definitely love to add more game modes in the future if we can find the time, though we can’t make any promises right now. But if you have any special ideas or wishes for new game modes, we’d absolutely love to hear them! :)

Really cool concept for a game, I really like the art, animations, and sound!

Gameplay loop is pretty good too.
