Pretty enjoyable racing game! Also very beautiful for an Atari 2600 like game, good job!

Wow this was just amazing.  Super great work on the art and the controls.  Feels awesome.

Beautifully done. Has that aesthetic of the atari but manages to portray the 3d space so well. The gameplay is good fun too. Great work! Keep it up!

Great and fun game, also the minimalist pixel art is perfect :)

A great idea for a conversion! That was a pretty neat entry and I had a ton of fun. I somehow doubt that the Atari 2600 would ever be able to run a game with an off-grid pixel style. Nevertheless, it is an insignificant nitpick. Well done!

Amazing, the pixel artwork is so colorful, love it!

Oh no! How bad luck I had! 4 out of 4 times poisoned in my last run! I love this demake! Totally retro feeling!

This one is just awesome. Best side-effect-ish approach I've seen yet. Racing is fun as well.

Authentic atari feel, the racing itself is pretty interesting and the powerups are well done.

This is very faithful both to the atari and mariokart - good job! It's quite fun even if I found that I wasn't too good at it. The poison may fit the theme of side-effect, but it is so painful that it leads me to not want to pick up the bonuses, thereby making that part of the game disappear. Poison should just last 5 seconds or so.

Developer

Thanks for playing! You can turn off the poison item in the options menu at the title screen if you wanted to try the game without it. But the poison does make you faster, so it's not all bad!

It really captures the Atari-era well, despite it feeling way faster than those games. I was getting destroyed by being poisoned quite a bit lol. I'm also really impressed how big this game is for the jam. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out! I made a setting under the options menu at the title screen for turning off the poisoning because I kept getting it when I was trying to debug other things. It's a 1/4 chance, but for whatever reason !Math.floor(Math.random() *4) likes to poison me.

I was digging the look of your game (definitely a Megaman thing going on there), but I couldn't get tagging to work. I saw the tip on your game page, but it didn't work for me for whatever reason.

Great idea and execution!!!   I feel it's too fast to really appreciate it and control it, but other than that, amazing job and super retro vibes! I grew up with 2600 (and 7800 after it) and I loved the "Pole Position" feel of the multicolored bars and "gradients".  Congrats!

Awesome execution ! I liked everything,  art, sound and gameplay. I like how it looks, I can imagine that something like this could be Atari. Keep up the awesome work ;)

Good attempt at incorporating the side effects theme. Good job on the parralax scrolling - works with the track. Overall a solid little game. Done very well. May be a bit too fast for the Atari :)

I definitely took some artistic liberty and broke a few Atari "rules" with this one. I played Atari as a kid and brought out a few more last week to get an idea of the look and feel for Atario Kart, and man... you had to have quite the imagination to get a thrill out of video games in the late 1970's / early 1980's.

Nice I wonder how this works , I mean the mode7 effect. Nice job.

Thanks! I get the perspective effect using lots of triangle math and ray casting. Think Wolfenstein 3D but sideways. Basically how many of the old console/arcade games did it. I'd release the code (I did for my other games), but this one's a total mess on account of the Game Jam time constraints. If you're curious, I'll give you the code.

Developer

You did a great job on your racing game, by the way. It's fun! Reminds me of Micro Machines for NES. I LOVED that game.

thanks ;), i'm far to be a coder, this times I play with construct2,  and like making asset, I guess i won't understand your code ;)

Really cool game! I really liked how the characters ' names were changed. Excellent styling for the atari 2600. Really cool game! I really liked how the characters ' names were changed. Excellent styling for the atari 2600. If you want, then rate our game.
