I really like this idea. That justify random battles, the theme is interpreted in a original way.
But there are so much random battles, I think less is better (but the fact that we must to find ourself what to do, I liked it)
But, why have we the "Game Over" screen after each ending? "The End" in a text box could be more satisfying !
But well, once we understand the mechanics of the game, the battles are less boring.
I tried to make the random encounter enemies one-shot killable if you use the element they are weak against, but yes there are too many (even though it's the default rate of MV maps). You're not the only one to dislike seeing a game over after the end credits, so I'll do something different next time.
I like the idea of getting abilities from the enemies to get past obstacles on the map, but it's a little hard to tell that it's what you need to do. It took me forever to figure out how to get past the bridge lol. The browser version crashed a few times with no apparent trigger, but that might just be my bad internet connection.
Well the game's universe is original and it's nice to see something different from the classic RPG worlds!
However after the surprise effect, the basic combat system kind of cooled me. The combats are too repetitive and too frequent...
It would have been nice if you also imagined something different for the gameplay like you did for the story!
That was a fun, different take on the standard rpg system. I really liked how you used the real world as the base of your story, you don't see that a lot in RPGs. I also liked the design of the two characters and their relationship with eachother.
I had a bit of trouble with some of the gameplay. The encounter rate felt a bit too high until I realized you were supposed to learn specific moves from enemies. I think it would benefit to have some indication that you're supposed to learn moves from enemies, as I spent a long time wandering the city area trying to find a way across the bridge until I realized I had learned the ice ability a while ago.
It had a good, modern atmosphere with the music and the setting, and I really liked that, and the use of the "contagious" theme was pretty original. I had fun!
I was trying to "show not tell" by having you learn attack and wind attack from enemies during the opening of the game. If you inspected the bridge without having an ice ability, you'd get a short conversation that hints you need to learn an ice ability.
The time limit of the event means I didn't really get to playtest other than making sure stuff worked. Glad you enjoyed the game after figuring out what you needed to do next :)
I really liked it! It was a different way to interpret the theme, good story, good characters. I just didn't like how no matter which end you got you got a game over screen after. Maybe a simple "The End" would be more rewarding. Real fun game!
I just want to say, you did a great job. Not only was it refreshing to play an RPG that had an urban setting setting in the modern world, but the way you got abilities and use them is a very nice idea I haven't seen before. The theme melded perfectly. music was on point with the atmosphere. The story added up, especially in the end, though I won't say why, because spoilers, and I played both choices and I am a fan of both. Keep it up! Also.... Nice innuendo. I dunno about anyone else, but that's a plus for me.
Hi, I robbed the pharmacy and got stun bolt, but I still could not get past the lasers. Did I miss something else? Thanks for the help!
you need shock attack, if you missed it, you can also learn it from street sweepers (map encounter in the paved areas). If you have it, zap the control panel
I have made a small update to add an item "Lure" to summon map encounters. This is obtained from the man who gives advice on enemy types. Using this item reduces grind / rng factor of getting the encounter you need.
Also made the game playable in browser and reduced the download size a bit by using compressed music files.
The updated zip / tarball are the new version, I have left the original submissions up until the end of the jam if you prefer to rate the game in its original form.
It's a good game which is original and has a good story. But I don't think that the random fights were useful and I think you could reduce the number of fights x)
J'ai été bloqué au niveau du pont, j'ai pas trouver dans quel arbre il y avait le truc pour les mandragores
I was bloqued at the bridge, i didn't find the thing for the mandragores in the trees
I made a design mistake using map encounters for this. The encounters needed for progression are in regions 1 and 4 (and robbing the pharmacy or street sweepers in region 2 gives the third skill)
