This was a lot of fun. Love the feel of the boat as you steer around and having to plan, like a real boat, for the slow down, back steer and steering in general as your momentum slowly picks up or slows down. Took me 3 times to catch the first fish as I didn't know exactly what to do, but once I did, it was a lot of fun. Didn't have the DPI issue, but was aware of it as I implemented a similar thing. Well done.

thanks for the feedback! Glad you had a positive experience with our submission! I think ultimately the boat will be made a bit more friendly to drive, as it seems from other feedback not everyone sees it as positively as you do. And to be fair, most probably don’t have experience with boats in real life so they are left to what they know from video games where they are mush more friendly to pilot at low speeds.

I get it. You have to listen to the majority of the audience and feedback, but from someone that's been on many boats and driven them, this was very spot on, and my own opinion is also from a gamer perspective I like the weighted feel of it. Really well done. My son loves the game too. He is 9.

The minigame idea is very creative, however i had a few issues with it. Personally i keep my dpi around 1200-1600 so that i can have more precise control in games, however even when i turn up my dpi sometimes the drifting was too much and instant. There is no time to react to where the icon is before it starts drifting  immediately because the runes aren't shown until after the countdown. As i bought better bait i either got better or it became easier due to the bait (not sure which), but there were instances when as soon as the minigame started it was lost in less than a tenth of a second.
I bought mythical bait and drove all around but only saw rare fish after about 15 mins of driving. I also realized that if i unselect the mythical bait, it doesnt despawn the rare fish, and its just as easy to catch while using the common bait

The boat controls feel wonky, and sometimes i'm turning one direction and it goes the other, plus it takes too long to accelerate.
Overall it met the theme well and its a solid idea, but it just needs work to get more points in the enjoyability category

I’ve had that happen a few times myself and didn’t have time to rework things so that it didn’t happen. The fish pull strength is determined by the size of the fish, and I didn’t have enough time to test and tune things so that larger fish don’t just immediately rip free.

Thanks for giving it a try. We’re going to put in a little more effort on the game to present a better portfolio project and address some of the feedback we’ve gotten here. The feedback is much appreciated!

The boat was a pain to control, otherwise a pretty nice game

the boat went through a few iterations but we sort of ran out of time to test and tune further. Thanks for giving it a try and for the feedback!

I love the look!

that’s all ManMadeOfGouda’s doing. I’m super glad he was able to do all that, because I am no artist. I have negative skill points in artwork, I think.

Great fun, l really like the atmosphere and the styling with the mythic/runes theme. I definitely see what you mean about the fishing mechanic being similar, I really like what you did with the runes as kind of obstacles/difficulty, great idea! In a larger version of the game, different runes could do different things, positive and negative, and possibly even buy your own runes to help.

So cool story, originally the runes were gonna be used for a sort of spell casting system. Then were changed to a set of modifiers, then finally to just a single penalty modifier due to time constraints. We have some plans after jam to add in a bit of the stuff we had to trim back and turn this into a solid portfolio piece for us. Not sure if we’ll end up Steam-worthy but I want to get it to a much better and more feature complete state.

Its such hard thing with game development, so many ideas and so little time. This game jam is my first completed game jam and first 'completed' game in a long time. I think this game would make a great portfolio piece to finish off. Feel free to reach out if you need any playtesting in the future. Would love to see what you end up with for the runes mechanic.

I like the idea of a really big lake just wish the boat was a little easier to drive, the fishing minigame was a little too easy for me, barely had to move the mouse at all. It was a clever addition of the penalty you get instead of just failing the minigame if you get outside the circle.

Unfortunately due to life issues for the whole team, we didn't have the time we would have liked to really test the fish curves and properly pad out the difficulty where it needs to be. Thanks for giving it a go and for the feedback!

Really sorry but it didn't load for me.

Error: Couldn't start

Create process() Returned 5

It worked for the other person so I'm assuming something is up with my windows settings or something.

I'll wait to rate in case you have a fix.

Running as admin *typically* fixes error code 5 on Unreal games.

Graphics Sound and UI looked good. Handling the boat was a bit of pain. also the minigame with the harpune was not satisfying for me personally because i had to move my mouse over the whole table to keep up.

Do you use a lower sensitivity on your mouse? Perhaps we should add some sort of calibration into the game to make sure that regardless of personal mouse settings it can be adjusted to keep that from happening... Something worth looking into, thank you for the feedback!
