Now. The issue with setting up a browser version is that my files are set at 500 mb+. I need to compress the audio and image files so I can set the 100 mb limit and 1000 file limit proper. Which is hard to do. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I can try and see if I can submit a browser version that's not borked but I make no promises.
You're getting your wish. The game now has a browser version as of this v.1.2 update. https://berryitch.itch.io/bushiyoroimaki/devlog/686877/bushi-yoroi-maki-v12-upda...
I had some fun playing this one! It was a bit tough in the beginning with the amount of mechanics thrown at you in the first couple of battles. Though once I was able to get a hold of things, overall gameplay was pretty fun with its depth. Just the sheer amount of thought and content you added shows how passionate you were about this. Loved the art too! It reminds me of Toriyama's earlier stuff.
Overall a nice game that was presented well.
I'll be honest, I had to cram so much in 2 weeks. I was glad to be able to finish on time. Granted, I could have time to polish level design and progression better. But I had real life stuff to handle at the tail end of the dev time cycle so I had to make due with hitting the minimum requirements.
So, my work is more in line with Akira Sakuma's design. He worked with Toriyama, so the resemblance and inspiration can be felt from there.
Thank you for playing.
Well it's a very complete and well made entry. Took me about 2 fights to undestand well the battlesystem, but once understood it was very pleasant. The art reminds me a bit of dragon quest, and it's noticeable you've put a lot of work in it. Great game.
Thank you for playing.
I will admit the learning curve seems to be a point of feedback contention. Good to know that you picked up on it quick.
Funny you mentioned Dragon Quest. The art style is more in line with Takayuki Doi and Akira Sakuma's works. Akira Sakuma has worked with Yuji Horii, who is the one of the leading founders of Dragon Quest.
So the inspiration semblance can be felt from there.
I don't see JRPGs in game jams very often. It's a genre i really love and it was very cool to play it in this jam. The only game i played which was made by RPG maker was Fear&Hunger and it was a fantastic game in my opinion. I'm beginning to see more games made with that engine. There are a few of them in this jam besides this one.
Anyways, your game is pretty fun to play. Eventhough it's a long game for a game jam, it didn't bore me. It' mostly bcs of the very well designed battle system. It is very engaging and fun. The artstyle of the game doesn't really appeal to me but i appreciate the hardwork put behind it. I find the story very interesting and complex too. You play as a demon samurai who fights against human samurai in a world where not all demons are evil. The dialogues are pretty well written. The music chocies are also great and there too many tracks. The battle musics, cutscene musics, they're all great. Only thing i'm missing in the game is a level where you can move your character around, NPCs and stuff. Like a true JRPG. But it's amazing you managed to finish this in two weeks, so i definitely don't see it as a negative thing in this situation. I hope you can turn this project into a full game and publish it. It's a great work. Best of luck to your in your future projects
I apologize if the artstyle doesn't appeal to you. But I guess different strokes for different folks. Also, having to move around the overworld is too large of a scope for a gamejam entry, so I decided to go with the menu selection format instead, though I will keep your feedback in mind if I ever make a longer game that's more in line with JRPGs. I appreciate you liking the combat and the interesting plotline at least.
Funny thing about Fear and Hunger is that the dev acknowledged a project I made alongside a good associate of mine. He liked the whimsy style I go for, which honestly is the greatest praise I could have gotten, and I couldn't be grateful for it.
In terms of the game itself, it is practically a prototype game at best. If I ever make a full game, it'll be a continuation of this series taking place in a different universe.
Thank you for taking your time playing the game.

I streamed this game today, it's toptier. A full fledged storyline, multiple characters and biggest of all a full fledged combat system! Wow this one looks like it took a ton of work.
I was able to play about an hour and finish the first area ( was a little slow because I was streaming it), I might go back to get the additional areas after the jam is done, for now I'll just say this one is really great.
Some areas of confusion however come from you don't know which new attacks you'll get on the stance change.
For example the Blue icon might be shown for a stance change, but the primary attack in that stance is the Green one. it could be a bit more helpful to show the player which stance will give which sort of attack types.
Congrats on the great game
This feedback is very well noted. I was short on time, wasn't able to give more details regarding the stance changes. I could sort the skills out so that its clear which is which, though again, I wasn't sure if the classification works or not. Either way, this is pretty valuable feedback. Thank you for telling me about it.
I appreciate you taking the time to play this. Much appreciated.
I saw the video. I sincerely apologized that you lost directly on the first battle because I didn't redirect to skills properly and you spammed attack at the first juncture. My apologies for that.
Thank you for giving it a chance though. I appreciate this new perspective from someone not used to JRPGs.
Wow, a lot of art, writing, effects and other details went into this for sure. Quite impressive. The variety in the enemies really forces you to experiment with the abilities, which was pretty cool.
Oh wow this game is huge for a game jam haha, it took me 52 minutes to get to the ending, but it was a pretty unique experience.
The story has lots of curious aspects, such as how different characters treat each other and how everyone carries the "weight" of being what they are (a veil of prejudice - misconceptions about oni, about women, and so on - and how the main character navigates through this whole mess). It also has a whimsical side to it with different types of creatures and all, like, the star-shaped hole in you-know-who's chest was wild!
The combat system reminds me of SMT/pokemon with the opposing elements, but with the interesting twist of changing stances. One thing to note is that the main character starts out very strong, with a complete set of skills, which can be overwhelming at first (I'm glad I have some experience with J-RPGs though). The possible strategies were really cool though, and I felt like almost every skill was useful in one way or another.
The battle against the "invulnerable" opponents was a real shounen experience - the whole fight was very enjoyable, cutscenes, new skills, a hidden power, the battle had it all hehe.
Super cool entry, great job with this one. I had lots of fun!
I must confess that it is far bigger than expected for a jam entry. I had already planned this in mind since the jam was announced so I was able to cram as much as I can, though it would have helped to actually truncate the latter half more so that cohesion flows better.
Having the player with all the skills at the start does feel like you're thrusted into it and forced to adapt quickly. Next time around, I would consider easing in to it with a better skill learning curve. That's probably a better approach to this if there are no JRPG turn based battle combat experts on the matter.
I appreciate the feedback and thank you for playing.
I like the combat system! It's like a classic JRPG.
I would appreciate being able to move around the world, art has a very specific style and I think that with time it can be very interesting :)
What I like the most is the combat, it has a lot of options as soon as you start the game, which can be a little overwhelming at first but it turns out to be something good :) (Srry for the english)
Thank you for your feedback. Considering the time limit, having to interact with the world is going to scope too large for my liking. Hence why it was cut.
If a follow up to this was made, there will likely be more animations at work and possibly more of your recommendations at play.
English isn't my first language either. So you don't have to worry about it.
