Quite fun to play. the draggin mechanic could be a bit smoother. The mouse has to be on the shape to drag it. It would be nice to have an outer radius where you can drag it. The shapes look pretty scary with eyes

Pretty fun to play ^^

Congrats on your score, 695 is quite impressive ! :D

It's a good game, I wish there was variation in where you send the characters from time to time and that there was no gravity, since in the second mode I just had to let the characters fall to win. Something that I am very grateful for is that I am color blind and I could not distinguish green from yellow, however with the shape that appeared in the middle I was able to play. I think with touch screen controls it would be a tremendous game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your review.

I'm not sure what you would want to happen if there is no gravity. Without it the shapes would just be sitting there and there would be no need to go fast. It's true that now you will score points if you do nothing 25% of the time, but it is still in your best interest to speed up the shapes that need to go down because you only have 1 minute to score points.

Regarding the color blind stuff: A friend of mine is colorblind so I kept that in mind. The code was built in such a way that I could select different kinds of palettes for each kind of color blindness. But since I never managed to finish the level that would have 8 different collectors I never needed to implement it.

Touch controls should just work I think. The biggest problem with playing on a phone is the aspect ratio. I made the game square and that means that on a phone you will not see a lot of the level. UI is always a problem for me :P

Omg I just played Geometry Match and felt like that was my personal top pick, but now I don't know.

  • When I was playing frantic mode and my triangle hit the circle and it bounced it into the wrong side... :chef's kiss:
  • I think standard's gameplay needs some difficulty ramping to it. I tried it and eventually restarted because it was going to slow for me. Frantic mode was great!
  • I feel like a life system would be better than a time limit here, eventually I get overwhelmed and I have to wait for the timer to end to recoup. I'd rather just die after 3 fails or something
  • Great game, you and Iron wood should team up ;)

Thanks for your awesome review !

Standard was meant to be quite casual. Frantic is for thrill-seekers who want fast paced action :D
And I think I mentioned it in another review, but I saw Geometry Match before the jam was even over and I also thought our games looked very alike. That is why I added the eyes and how my game got it's final name :)

LOL the eyes were a fun touch. Both of your games are great! I hope you don't think I was implying either of you copied one of the other. Visually they look similar, but mechanically they are quite different. Anyways post-jam I hope you continue to work on your game! Feel free to reach out if you want help or advice.

I found the game (both difficulties) fairly easy, so it bored me pretty fast. I feel this game strayed from the theme quite a bit, but this is the type of game I would play instead of doing work, so I can’t really hate on it.

The game sure isn't hard to play, the challenge lies in getting a decent high score. If you want an extra challenge, have a look at the screenshots to see the scores the playtesters got before I wiped the leaderboards. The highest score was 775 so good luck beating that one, I know I would have a hard time in that :P

Agree with you that it isn't very good on the theme.
Thanks for the review !

This nice quick game. Like the mechanics. Took a bit of figured out but got the hang of it,

The difference of difficulty between normal mode and hard mode is insane. Love the game (Also the eyes are a bit creepy)

Submitted(+1)

I'm very confused on the graphics but the game is fun

Submitted(+1)

Really fast game, simple mechanics and enjoyed the game!! Would be good if color boundaries also change !Awesome work dev! I scored 295/-

Submitted(+1)

Simple, fast, pretty engaging. The frantic mode is, well, frantic!

The graphics could use some work. If you are not a graphics guy, consider teaming up with someone! I do in most of my jam games :)

Developer

Wholly agree on the art!

I tend to do short jams just by myself since there is already little time and working together has a significant overhead cost. But the art does suffer indeed :p

Thanks for the review!

The second difficulty makes it so much more fun to play.

Cool idea

The kids game of sorting shapes but harder. Nice! The eye sprites do look a tad out of place on the shapes though tbh

Do check out and rate mine as well when you get the chance

We have really similar concepts, even the "basic shapes" art Lol.  The shapes having eyes and personality is kinda creepy interesting 😆. One thing is I had a bit of a hard time trying to "catch" the shapeyes with my mouse. Maybe the hitboxes could be bigger. Or take the shapeye nearest to the mouse instead. Otherwise, really fun though!

Developer

To be honest, you submitted your game well before me and when I saw the similarities I decided to do something about my sprites. I wanted to make it space ships at first but didn't have the time. So I just slapped some eyes on there (and I got a new name for the game with it, so thanks for that :D)

I thought about making the hitboxes bigger, but then in the Frantic mode you would see shapes bouncing off of nothing when they get to close to the collider. Probably fixable by having a collider for the mouse and a collider for the collision but again, too little time :)

I think it was a huge difference between the two difficulties, one very easy and one is very hard, i think some tweaking would for sure increase the GamePlay by 150%! I didn't really like the interpretation of the theme. Soundtrack was good. Well done.

Developer

Thanks for the review !

I agree that the difference is huge, but I wanted Frantic to feel really frantic. It used to be even worse where you could end up with about 15 shapes on the screen at the same time :P
Also agree that the theme is not strong here, the first idea was to turn the collectors to the bottom to collect them, but this turned out to be more fun (but less on theme indeed)
