  • The minimal pixel level design is quite beautiful and provides an atmospheric impression of a larger world. The game has a promising start with enemies, platforming and interactable, and I hope you’re able to flesh it out down the track and shape it into a fully fledged experience!

Hey Spelmakare!

Finally got around to playing your game!! I absolutely loved the experience and hope you continue to develop it because there really are limitless possibilities for what you have created -- so cool!

A few notes after playing:

  • Like others have said, some sort of tutorial picking things up would be great but obviously I know that is quite difficult given the small time frame of the Jam. Something to add once it's over though!
  • The only other thing is that I think I ran into a bug? I am really not sure though. After I made it up the elevator to grab my friend I jumped one time at the top and clipped through the elevator to fall to my death -- my bad lol. After that though any time I would come back down from the elevator and jump I would die when I landed O.O not entirely sure what happened but it happened every time.

A few things I liked:

  • The art style is absolutely gorgeous. Everything meshes so well, nothing looks out of place, and I truly felt immersed in the world. 
  • The physics mechanics of throwing blocks and being able to stack things up was super cool! Would love to see more added to this game -- additional levels, mechanics, puzzles, etc. I just want to play more!
  • I love the sound effects that you have included and how everything really sounded like it had weight and impact. The blizzard atmosphere was great as well. Like I said above though I just want more once the Jam is over haha!

Really wonderful job and I am definitely going to be following along to see how this and your other projects progress.

Thank you for detailed comment! Yes that does sound like a bug, there was no elevator riding when I did the death from falling to far, so very likely something I did not think of :)

I really love the atmosphere, the snow and the environment was the best part for me, also loved the retro-esk art style, Good job.

I loved this, especially the aesthetic. This particular brand of impressionistic retro pixel art/lighting is my favorite. (How did you get this look? What engine/tools did you use?) I think the interaction with the environment is really impressive, though the accuracy of picking up and dropping stuff was sometimes frustrating, and I'll admit I didn't quite get to the end of the level. Would love to see it developed further!

Thanks! I use Inkscape to draw, sometimes I animate using Synfig, but in this case did frames in Inkscape as well. Screen in this blog post https://smjn.itch.io/dcd/devlog/624159/day-5. I usually do all in white with shades, then tint the sprites in code. The engine is something I created based on PixiJS and make scenes in Tiled. Indeed, if I develop it further, picking and dropping would be worked on!

Wow, I really love the minimalist pixel art in this, and combining it with the lighting is really impressive. It took me a while to figure out that you can pick things up, so I'd recommend adding some way to communicate that to the player. I'd love to see it expanded upon, great work!

Thanks! Yeah, originally had more signs that said so, but it looked cluttered so I removed it :) If continuing the game, then yes I agree, it would be an addition needed to have tutorial or instructions.

The art of the game holds my attention, I spent a while trying to get it. The construction of the scenario is very cool, in my opinion.

I got a little bit confused at the beginning, but he game looks great! Loved the snow on the scream.

The art style is interesting, it kind of reads like an atari game like pitfall, but with modern rendering, (I like Atari). the snow effect is great though i actually feel a little cold . Is there a punch button? I keep trying to jump over the red dudes and keep getting clipped.

Good to hear, was aiming for era around Atari time :) There is no punch button. While holding an object you can throw it by keeping space pressed down for a short bit. So tapping space picks and drops, holding shortly and releasing throws. It's a bit rushed, my original intention was to create levels were you take alternate paths or use distractions to get by enemies.

Great art style and tight, responsive controls! One small change I'd make is have the game a bit more zoomed in on the player. Nice addition to the jam!

Thanks! You can change the zoom level in settings under camera. I fiddle a bit with it, trying to find a good default value, but hard with how it works on different screens and ratios.
