SCREAM JAM 2024 gHost's Choice -
Games set in a single room always have a difficult task of providing the player with enough freedom and gameplay to sustain interest. This insidiously bleak game does the opposite: the player, trapped in their basement by a blast, is constantly taunted about their own confinement. The narrative context paces the player through the absurd and futile nature of their survival situation. The game ends abruptly, but not without a well-earned scare that calls back to a darker and more interesting horror of being trapped and surrounded by death. It’s an interesting, thought-provoking game that creates a setting atypical to the mythological tone of indie horror.
Thank you for submitting Concrete Cries to SCREAM JAM 2024, and congratulations on being selected as one of the ten gHost's Choice entries for the jam!

What a nice game! I loved the atmosphere, though I'm not always a fan of games ending with scares but that's just a personal preference. Cool Aesthetics too! "There's a sound coming from the staircase, I should investigate it" I just said NAH audibly
I loved it. Simple and short. I find really interesting the loop of Task > Sleep > Event.
For some interactions I needed to be crouching, I felt that was a little bit unintuitive.
Great submission!
I feel like I missed something. The help text wanted me to prepare for the night by the door, not sure how to do that...
The art is fantastic looking and the interactable physic objects are very fun.
Would have liked some footstep sounds. The ambient music is nice, adds a sadness to the atmosphere.
Cool submission. If I was missing some crucial, please let me know so I can replay it.
Yo! Sorry for not making it clear enough :p
You need to get rid of items (crates) off the door. You might need to sit down to reach for crates (CTRL) and drag them. Then upon interaction with the door (LMB), the character will lead you to the further tasks.
i really enjoyed this. the man was absolutely wolfing down those pickles, it was pretty funny and set up the scare at the end really well. i did have a small glitch during it that hurt it's impact a little bit (the character teleported and then a transition happened after the teleport), but it was still scary and a cool reveal. there were also a lot of issues with hit boxes, the indicator would often not come up for things i could interact with which made the start where i needed to move the boxes very confusing. i did enjoy being able to pick stuff up and slide it around though, that worked really well. good job overall!
I belieeeve the problem with indicators comes from the fact that I made raycast for the interaction with draggable objects way too short :p
Noted that! Thanks! :)
very spooky! nice short story, enjoyed the jar smashing physics :D
Yeaah, I'm a fan of those Amnesia-like interactions with objects :)
Enjoyed this! Really well designed environment, very immersive. I’d love to see this expanded upon after the jam! Also big fan of the art style.
I did experience a bug where I struggled to read the task list as it was displaying multiple lines of text over eachother. I think maybe it made me sleep twice in one go or something? Was still able to finish the game anyway :)
Oh nooo. Highly appreciate the report! I'll look into it immediately.
Glad you still enjoyed it!
Really cool atmosphere, well done!
Happy to hear that, thanks :)
