Verburner was on spot when it comes to my (very few) critiques. a few bugs and a little bit of polish and you got yourself a reeeaally good experience! Got addicted to the gameplay fast and although the random spikes in stats might've been because of bugs, I found them a super fun addition to the game! Would be fun to be given OP power ups at a low probability haha!
The enemies were varied and interesting which gave a good challenge at times and I am honestly amazed that you managed to do a randomly generated level system! Amazing work!
Oh and the music was my favorite in the jam so far! Loooved it!
Had a lot of fun with this one! The gameplay was already quite addictive and you can definitely build on those to expand the game.
I agree with all of the points Verburner made, especially the clicking for every shot, it made my finger cramp after a little while haha. Overall very well done though!
Was very surprised by this; I've actually been playing a lot of similar style roguelites lately and am hoping to try my hand at making a game similar to this in the future!
Appreciated the distinct and varied enemy types and behaviors, as well as the variety of stats / upgrades already available. As you note the art could use some polish, but I think you have a very solid foundation of gameplay / mechanics to build off of.
Really entertaining concept, I really liked those moments when I was just about to get hit and just barely managed to get away, also the shield is very OP, it's awesome!
The only thing I would add is a tutorial or a controls screen, but other than that it's a great concept, very well done!
This was probably the game I spent the most time with! I agree with every point Verburner made, although for me upgrades randomly got bugged, so the first few damage upgrades all gave me 5 and then at some point I was at 1200 :P
It also happened to other stats as well, like bullet size and shot delay.
However, despite that I'm really impressed with what you made in one week, hats off man :)
Wow, didn't expect a fully functional roguelike in this jam, good job! Procgen worked well with a few minor hicccups, enemy spawns felt fair and well laid out. I do have a lot of stuff to whine about too though:
- Most of the powerups (especially laser pointer) are pretty useless. I didn't feel like shot speed, and reduced spread helped me much since hitting enemies was easy enough anyway. Range was pretty high on default, so the range up only really helped hitting enemies off-screen, which is kinda tricky
- Could be a problem with screen resolutions, but my character and laser pointer didn't align with where I was actually aiming/shooting
- Could ALSO be a problem with screen resolution, but the game felt far too zoomed-in.
- Damage powerup is bugged and gives WAYYYY too much. A single one is enough to 1-shot everything
- Collecting powerups takes very long for no reason
- Enemy health is kinda overtuned, where it makes clearing rooms take a very long time. Doesn't add to difficulty very much either.
Regardless, good job making this, respect!
edit: Forgot the most important part. Pleeease let me hold left mousebutton to shoot. Don't make me mash that button to get any benefit at all from increased firerate
thanks for the great feedback man! Really appreciated. I had so much fun working on this I think I'm going to continue to expand it (don't worry, I have a LOONG laundry list of upgrade ideas, many of them much more interesting than what's in the jam version:) )
Wondering if you'd be willing to playtest and critique again in a month or two? This was very helpful.
I plan on playing/rating your game either later tonight or early tomorrow, can't wait to try it out!
No problem at all! Maybe if you have time you might want to check out my very first game I posted on Itch. It plays somewhat similar (despite not being a roguelike) and might give you some inspiration (and like everyone I like sharing my work). Just add me on discord and pm me if you need a playtester. Really enjoyed playing your game despite the long list i dumped haha.
Edit: The game I meant is Will o Wisp. I completely forgot about the other two.
