Hope to see you make more of this.

this game! as simple and small as it is, is very fun! and I think that is very important. it is very fun and cute to take pictures of the characters and climb the building to get the gator! thank you for this. even without a single word i feel like i can feel the character's personalities x) bc even tho they are static images we know they're kinda trying to pose for a picture! i love them

A cool proof of concept; I like the cohesive color scheme of the environment and the pixelated camera.

Developer

thanks! the sky was one of the first things i worked on, and I ended up making everything themed around the purple because of it haha

Very nice idea! I like the camera implementation as a physical object you have, and I like that it applies a filter.

Clothes and genital toggles add a nice bit of variety, as does the camera tilting. And maybe it's a small detail but I liked how the simplified walking crowd looked.

I get the difficulties of making this for web, took me a while to find a way to 'save' photos in a web build myself (and even then I just instantly set them as a texture for an object offscreen, haha!) but the build worked well on desktop. I do appreciate that you made mention of where pictures are saved, helps me find and remove leftover files once the rating period is over.

My only comment is that I would've loved to see more cool characters to take photos of, but otherwise this was a cool proof of concept, well done!

yeahhh I had some time budgeting problems IE i procrastinated a lot and had a lot of project paralysis thinking about how hard it might be to do some of these things i wanted, so i didn't create very many characters, which was going to be one of the main important things!!! also creating the world fell by the wayside, which is kind of sad too

but I did get the core mechanics made to get the basic idea across: you can walk around a world, pull out a camera, take pictures of funny naked characters in camera mode, save the pictures if you want, and display them to the public

the major feature it's missing that i really wanted was a "quest" system where you talk or find things or do tasks with the characters to convince them to strip and let you take the pictures, but that was what really slowed me down was trying to figure out how to make that whole system, so maybe I should just use a library next time or something! because rolling one myself was a big challenge that I couldn't wrap my head around

I thought it was really hilarious that you press the camera button and your player brings out a comedic old timey looking camera, but despite being old timey it's actually digital, and despite being digital the resolution is just piss poor and you can barely decipher what the pictures are looking at

A cool idea! I really like how the camera is an actual object instead of a "mode", you can walk around and see things through both the camera and your own eyes which is super neat. The controls feel alright, but there are some issues with how the main character collides with various 3D environments.

The world has a slightly eerie atmosphere and will be fun to explore when it becomes a bit larger. I'm guessing that you'll need to do something more than hit a toggle to see the characters naked once the game is expanded? An exploration game where you're finding ways to strip everyone down to take pictures sounds quite fun!

ah yeah i put the camera too far forward so you can clip it into things sometimes, and the player controller doesn't step up steps very well, just something i needed to learn in this way xD

Developer(+1)

and yeah that was one of my plans but i wasn't able to get everything done, i wanted to have "quests" where you do something for them so they strip

This is a cute idea, and I'm always a sucker for the "3d environment with 2d sprites in it" type of visual style. I like the concept, and it could be fun if combined with some basic first-person platforming (which is sort of already in the jam build, with the character on the roof and all.)

The performance problem with your web export might've been due to shader issues or something? Godot 4 is still pretty temperamental about these, unfortunately. But the desktop build does run so that's fine.

Best of luck in the future!

Developer

thanks a lot, and yeah, I do have a custom shader to add functionality to the sprites, when i probably should have just used the stock one, but i was stubborn with making my own thing work, and that probably broke web compatibility

It seems to me like you are still getting a hang of 3d game development in Godot. Keep at it! There will be awesome things you will be able to do in this medium once you have a better understanding of the technology and of the art of game design.

Pressing f1 doesn't seem to toggle the camera for me, so I can't take pictures.  I like the proof of concept though.  Some more work and this could turn into a fun game.

Developer

oh, do you have a different kind of keyboard? maybe i can add another shortcut that does it so you can try too

Submitted

I'm not sure.  It's a keyboard that I have to hold Fn to access the F1-F12 keys (otherwise they do like volume and stuff) but even doing that doesn't seem to work.  Using F1-F12 for game controls is a little bit unusual anyway; usually they're reserved for application commands (e.g. F1 for help, F11 for fullscreen), so I think other people might appreciate it having another key binding as well.

Developer

did the updated files work with tab and z?

Submitted(+1)

Yup, works perfectly, thank you!

Developer

i tried to do a web export and it did run, but it was really laggy and the sprites didn't work, so I'll have to look into how to do fix it, i don't think ill be able to figure it out for the ppl who want to run it in browser unfortunately

This was a really fun concept. And to see it more developed would certainly be a treat. Everything worked well for myself and it was fun taking the photos and looking around for a bit. Mechanically what has been setup is really nat. ~

Pretty good for your first time using Godot! As far as functionality goes, it all worked perfectly for me. Could become a fun game once it’s fleshed out!

Developer

thank you ! i think it's a really fun idea, mostly i want to make a game where you go around helping people in exchange for them modeling for you haha
