I don't want to seem overly harsh, but I found the tutorial that was followed here, and the game is a 1:1 recreation. Although yes, the game works pretty well with the fighting and the enemy and such, singing praises here would not be fair to the original tutor.

The environment felt really nice to play in with multiple ways to fight with a some what challenging enemy, however, i did find i could straight up walk off and ignore the enemy, i also did't find the game too challenging due to how much health I had.  I Really like the movement and animations that were used and some sound effects would really boost the game  a long way!

A decent attempt, it could do with some way to indicate controls, animations also seem a bit quick.

Nice attempt at a fighter style game!

I struggled at first figuring out what the attacks were, but other than that, a nice working game. Good job!

A good attempt at the fighter style game. The gameplay was very smooth and worked very well. However, without a list of controls it was hard to work out what did what and a main menu would benefit this issue showing the controls and also so you aren't just thrown into the game.

The animations flow smoothly and the attacks feel satisfying, although some sound effects could have definitely helped with this. The game could definitely benefit from some kind of main menu. I can't really comment on the visuals as they were premade but this is definitely a solid start to a game.

An attempt has been made to submit something for the deadline, and does contain the core mechanics that make up a title like this. However, how much of this project was your own work? According to the readme within the 3D Beat-em-up assets folder, they were created for a youtube tutorials and they are not open source or licensed for commercial purposes which if you remember is one of the requirements Ted said was needed for you to use assets such as this. From what I could find, most of the 3D models and gameplay was created by the file creator. In addition, there wasn't an abundance of gameplay outside of continuously hitting one guy at a time and even if you die you can just get back up by attacking. It feels like there wasn't a lot of playtesting for this game which lead to a lot of bugs being missed. Finally, there is no listing for controls and so I had to figure them out by pressing every key on my keyboard which isn't really a good way to learn. I'm available on Monday before the Lecture if you want to talk about this project in more detail, but I can't really give much of a review based on what I've seen, I'm afraid.

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for your comments about the game. I didn't realise the assets aren't licensed for commercial purposes and I should have checked before using them.  We did create our own art work for the game (which is in the folder) but the game wasn't working as it should be using our own art work and, as a group, we decided to upload this game instead. I only used these assets to test the code for the game so that it would work for our art work that we did. We will learn from this and make sure that the assets used like these are open source or licensed.

Thanks again.

The game looks really cool and being 3D was an interesting was to differentiate your group from the rest. I liked the animations and characters - they looked very professional. Well done.

A good game within 3D format, I liked the background which looked like it was professionally made and the characters fit well within this, the animations work well as well , however I felt there could of been a lot more within this from a main menu to be informed on how to play the game as I had to press all the keys to work out which was the correct ones, and some audio sound effects and background music would of made this look professional with punches and music fitting the scene, it would of been great to have more than one level or character to play as as well, but still a good submission, well done!

Nice little game, solid 3D foundation.

I really like the animations and character models used. Were they created from scratch, or were they used from another source? The combos and kicks were extremely smooth, and felt satisfying to use, although I think the game could have used a few sound effects in order to make the attacks feel even better.

I did run into a few issues, most of them after the game had ended... Sort of.

First of all, when the player dies, the game doesn't end, and the AI opponent continues to attack your corpse. While this one isn't so much an issue since it doesn't affect the actual gameplay, the next two really are.

If you happen to wander back to your movement keys, you'll realise that you can still move around as a lifeless body for the remainder of the time spent playing the game. And if you happen to press one of the attack keys, you'll suddenly spring back to life and be able to attack and defeat your opponent again. This also makes it so your opponent cannot further damage you, leaving you to suffer with your immortality until you close the game.

Outside of the gameplay, the controls weren't listed anywhere in the game, and the game could not be paused.

It was still fun to go through though, well done.
