A nice game, but I don't think it really fits the criteria of a beat em up, it does however play quite well and is appealing in appearance. There are some issues with enemies - you can stand on top of enemies heads to avoid any damage completely, and despite having full health certain collisions seem to instantly kill you.

This game felt a bit more of a platformer rather than a 'Beat em up'

However, this game is a really nice attempt. the sprites were good, and the attacks were smooth too. Some enemies got stuck on each other, and sometimes the game would reset if you touched them once.

It was also possible to stand on their heads, and just ride around without taking any damage.

Overall, nice attempt at a game!

A really good attempt. I felt that the sprites were really good and the animation for the attack was very smooth. However, i had some issues were the enemies would just get stuck on each other and that it was very easy to just kill them and move on which was a shame. Overall a good job

I'm really impressed with what you've managed to make with the constraints you had, the movement/fighting mechanics are solid and there is a clear objective and end goal. You seem aware of the improvements you would make if you took this game further which is the most important thing. Well done for having something to submit in any case!

Make sure that you list your team members as contributors as well as listing your team name in the title. Don't make us do detective work to find out who you are! This is a decent attempt at making a beat-em-up for the time you were given, with some good character art and some work on animations mainly on the player.

However, I don't think I can say that this is actually a beat-em-up, but rather a platformer which was the last game not this one! If you look at the gameplay provided on the Moodle, I think that you would agree with me that this is more like Mario than Double Dragon. That aside, the main character art looks like it was cut out of Photoshop or something like that, with some white cutouts surrounding the character. Also, why does it appear to have a gun when that isn't used at all, or am I missing something there? The environment and character art style is drastically different which takes away from the experience, consider ensuring that art remains consistent in the future.

Overall, I commend you for submitting and there is evidence that work was done on the project, albeit perhaps a bit rushed. I think that what you have here is entirely fine, and with some additional work there is the basics for a strong submission.

Developer

thank you for your feedback Charley, sorry for not including the necessary information, i lt jsit completely slipped my mind upon upload, yeah I agree with you feedback completely regarding the game leaning towards the platformer genre but unfortunately we had quite a bit of problems with team task distributions and communication so we did our best to make light of somewhat of an awkward situation, with the gun situation, we planned on having an option to swap weapons but was had to cut it out due to time.

Thank you over all! I’ll be sure to take this in for the next project and try to handle time better to ensure a more polished game in the future :)

Amazing game! Well done! The art and animations look so so good!!! The movement and feel of the character was also really nice and the movement of the enemies was a nice touch to add the element of timing into the game. Congrats on a great game!! :D

Really cool game that is very fun to play. I spent quite a while playing this game trying to beat the level, I thought it had a good difficulty to it and makes it engaging. The art is really good, especially for the character, I like how the sword animation looks. Overall solid game, I think if you added more levels then it would be an amazing game. Good Job!

Really good attempt at the task, well done.

The movement didn't feel problematic to control, and the platforming elements involved were simple enough so that they didn't hinder the brawling element of the stage shown. The inclusion of walking and attacking animations helped the overall movement feel natural to control, as well as obviously providing a clear and concise indicator as to what input you're performing.

There are a few issues throughout, but I wouldn't say any of them are major aside from this first one - I couldn't find a way for the player to take damage aside from instant death. The health bar displayed in the top left didn't decrease in my multiple playthroughs of the stage whatsoever, and falling in a pit or landing on spikes would cause the stage to reset. It appeared like the enemies patrolling the stage couldn't damage the player at all, turning them more from something to consider a threat to simply an inconvenience towards reaching the goal. The enemies were literal pushovers, as you could simply walk into them and shove them down a pit in order to continue, with no potential harm coming to the player character if you did so.

I should also add that only once when I was close to the goal, the stage restarted. It was unclear if I had taken any damage, as I was simply mid-jump with a platform beneath me. I tried to replicate this a few times, but was unable to.

Overall it was fun to go through your game. Well done guys.

A good attempt at the game task set, the robot sprite really stood out to me, especially the animation of the hitting which I could tell was well made, especially whilst fitting in with the background and enemies within this game which worked, I liked that you included a main menu screen with instructions and credits so we could be informed who made the game and how to play which is useful to know and can be useful to new gamers as they can clearly find out the controls before playing, I would of liked to of heard some sound effects within this game or background music to make the game stand out even more but I can see a clear attempt was made and as a team you should be proud! well done!
