I think Suika plush may be the best sanity mechanic I have seen in a game.

Great atmosphere, I did have some problems with the challenge (ghosts often magnetizing to me before even stage 20) but the concept and presentation here are an easy favorite.

my favorite game from the jam!!! everything about it is great!! only part i'd add is some sort of ending screen so the player can feel accomplished, or something. Let Youmu find the bathroom please.

Thanks! We are working on a more rounded version atm. We spent a lot of time on the systems. I was hoping we could make the rooms faster with our modular system, but it still ended up taking a surprising amount of time. Just placing the layout, making sure it is sealed, has spawn points for the ghosts, etc.

This game has a good eerie atmosphere implemented inside. My only complaint is that the room is quite repetitive. There are some new things like Yuyuko or Mima spawn, but to be honest I like for it to have more just than that. I only manage to clear up to room 50 though, since, for some reason, the Suika doll bite me when I tried to regain my sanity. Not sure if I did something wrong or if there are hidden timers and I run out of time when that happened.

I stream the game here around minute 25 if anyone wants to watch:

Developer

Thanks for streaming our game! The biting doll is the effect of Mizuchi (the third ghost) whose ability is to posses objects and people. She is quite slow since her ability hurts a lot, so you didn't have a chance to see her body in the playthrough. Maybe we could add more clues that the curse is active. We left making rooms for the end so we could only make a few variants in time to submit.

i did not know until closing it that one hundred rooms were necessary to win or that the amount of rooms you had progressed through had any impact at all since it seemed like they were looping. i probably got to 25 or so and while yuyuko eventually spawned, suika is just too good! you can even use her during room transitions so i was always topped off before going anywhere

still the aesthetics are on point and if there were more rooms and suika was not as powerful it would be very scary

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, absolutely horrifying. Well done with everything in there.

Played with the Jam version, got to the end on my first try but at the cost of my own sanity because halfway through I started talking to Youmu, and from Room 60 or so I started counting from 1 (>▽<)
From start to finish, I think it was paced well enough. Got used to walking and identifying the rooms from Rooms 1 to 9, Then there was the Yuyuko, really a mind shaker the first time. Right after there was the Mima, really got a smile out of me when she said The Line™ - doesn't make her any less terrifying though. And then there was this chime. It was when I realized the Goblin didn't squeak that I started going "Oh no how dare they no no no no" as I dashed through the rooms. Needless to say that was a ride.

So yes, perfect atmosphere for Halloween, would get videobombed by the Umbrella again.

P.S. : Oh yeah one thing I think would be interesting is to have the ghost's noise actually emit from them, which could help the player locate their general direction and how close they are by sound. To Yuyuko, Mima, and I think even for these haunted wardrobes. Would be funny if the chime came from you (because I really have no idea if it was a ghost causing this so I assumed it's either from the plushie or it's from the rooms themselves. Imagine if the Goblin had a small chance to do the sqeaky Suika singing from the WE ARE JAPANESE GOBLINS video

Do you think it'd be possible to export a Linux version? This looks really good, but when I try to run it in WINE, I just get a grey window.

Developer

Of course! I'm sorry I forgot about it - please find the Linux version in the downloads.

Thanks!

In terms of horror and the use of the theme, this might be the most fleshed out and polished experienced this jam. I almost killed myself during that one "sanity effect", and it made for quite an intense experience.

One hundred rooms, and Youmu still hasn't found the toilet...

I think this really captures the essence of a good horror game: a game where things don't seem too scary at first, but the further you go, the spookier it gets. The gradual introduction of the game's mechanics and dangers is extremely effective - I remember being taken aback by the bell demon's move and genuinely panicking, followed by intense relief when it ended just as my Sanity was going down to 10!

The only complaint I have is that even with the mechanics, the game's pacing is still a bit too slow and the overall difficulty doesn't ramp up much for a 100-room game. It would definitely benefit from more monsters and/or a sprint mechanic! Also, I'm not sure how the bell demon's move is programmed. Is it designed to end after you escape through a few more rooms? If so, it's incredibly clever and I'd love to see more of such a mechanic.

The visuals, audio and overall atmospheric design of the game really, really work in its favour. Youmu's face expressions and pose, the sound cues for the monsters (Mima especially), and the art style which is both simple and powerful... all of these elements came together to deliver a fine survival horror experience. Genuinely impressed this was made in 3 days.

Good job on the game!!!

Thank you for playing! :) I'm glad the game spooked you. Yes, the game is a bit too easy now, but we had a few more ghosts in mind which we unfortunately didn't manage to implement in time. Please stay tuned for the definitive edition™ where we'll add them and balance the game's overall pacing. And yes, you are correct, the possession ghost disappears after a set number of rooms.

Suika keeping us sane and functioning is real >:<

Jokes aside, the overall gameplay is really spooky and have faithfully executed the given theme.

The game runs smoothly, the visuals are excellent for a halloween theme, the audio is creepy and superb, and the game mechanics are unique. I also like how Myon's accelerates and slows down.

The only thing is that the game's pace is rather slow, and it would be nice to have a sprint game mechanic (even for a short period of time) and/or have a game mechanic wherein if loud noises from sprinting are heard by nearby ghosts, they will hover much faster towards the player.

Overall this is a great game especially for the given theme!

I advanced to Room 108 and the "YOU WIN" text overlapped with the "GAME OVER" text

Amazing sound mechanics and peaceful prefaces! I underestimated its spookiness until Yuyuko appeared with a ghostly noise; the first defeat really freaked me out (compliment), I got used to them after several encounters, and finally beat the game.

Very sppoky. Youmu was super expressive, the Suika plushie was adorable, and the various audio cues for the different ghosts was a fantastic qualty of life feature. Is there a way to survive past room 50, or does the bell demon exist to end your run?

Developer

Hi, thank you for playing :) the bell demon was nerfed a bit in the hotfix build so that it doesn't stay with you for so many rooms >D

Spooky mood and very cute squeak goblin animation!
