Quality art and audio design here. The sort of anthology approach is really fun, especially with how it's both horror stories and origin stories that give the characters time to banter.

I always appreciate games that manage to be scary without the use of cheap jumpscares!

The stories were all very nice, though my favourite was Rin’s story (despite it being the least scary to me writing-wise). The combination of a black-and-white art style and the creepy ambient music really made the story shine, and I would definitely play a full game with that kind of atmosphere. Good job!

Thank you so much!

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

here's the first extraordinary entry i've played so far. short but that doesn't matter when it's as colorful and dense as it is.

all of the stories are all around bussin and its a pretty high quality engine for a non ren'py jam vn. i feel like i've seen this style before but i can't really guess what it's made of aside from javascript. is it from the ground up just for this jam? cool regardless

Hi, aeon! This entry is made using Visual Novel Maker, you are correct that the programming language is javascript.  Glad that you like it. :)

I don't have time to read much but I'm really feeling the vibe from the narration, visuals, and audio. Mmmm.

This VN has the best... words. I don't have a better way to put it. It's got an atmosphere made up of a perfect blend of narration, ambient sounds, and soundtrack. The user interface as well, a thing to behold. If there ever is a serious monetizable VN to be made, you guys would actually be able to pull it off..!

I really liked the contrast between comfy fire place scenes and the genuinely scary ghost stories being told. The visuals and the content of each of the ghost stories all have their own unique brand of scary with this reviewer physically reeling back from the second story being told. The Fire of Hokkai remix is definitely a highlight and genuinely creepy.

The VN/interactive fiction entries are strong this time, and this one is no exception. The visuals and music are polished and evocative, and a bunch of ghosts, monsters, etc. being scary via ghost stories rather than actively terrorizing people is a fun Touhou-y idea (I mean if Byakuren won't let them go wild, they have to maintain their mystique somehow...). Definitely makes me interested in seeing more from the team members.

I'm not into visual novels, but it was really well written!

It instantly throwed me into their world and it's climats.

The stories were pretty good too! (I wasn't prepared for Murasa)

Even if Ichirin or Unzan ain't doing anything more, it's a very strong entry.

Good job everyone, keep it up!

...I actually thought that Kogasa is gonna jumpscare at the end and give me a heart attack...

I was absolutely blown away by the production values. Everything is presented so well, and the writing's pretty great too (Hi Aqwa I know you know how much I love the UFO cast lol).

The first piece of artwork shown in the game was pretty nice. The music during the intermissions was also quite a good listen, with the melding of "Theme of Eastern Story" and "Emotional Skyscraper". This was the first game I've randomly picked from the list of this jam's submissions, so I wonder how many more games in this jam use "Theme of Eastern Story" for their music.

Nice kinetic novel: the sound and images really do help set the mood, and its all well-written too. Good use of the theme, and the frame story is a clever way to bring many writers together without it feeling incohesive (but see my criticism below).

Nit-picks: Unzan is not actually present in the images, and the reaction to Mamizou's story feels a bit out-of-place, as if the frame story and other stories were written completely independently. Otherwise, there isn't anything to complain about. I especially enjoyed how empathetic the stories are, by which I mean that they do a good job of communicating how the characters might have felt when they died, where forgotten or locked away.

The stories were really horrifying (the first one caught me off guard), and there are wholesome moments as well so overall it's a great blend of the two and gave me such an experience.

The visuals are very detailed considering that it is a game jam submission, and the characters are really alive that can be felt by the reader. Furthermore the overall atmosphere, especially that there are shifts (i.e. during the campfire scene and horror stories), is simply well done; with the campfire's sound effects, visuals, and the background music itself.

I'd love to see more of this lively art in a post game jam version!

I haven't saved anything but continuously played each act/scene, and now I'm a bit spoiled with the previous comments 💀

hihi! thank you! im so glad you liked it! i wrote (and illustrated the second drawing of) the first story, and it was actually one of my first attempts at writing horror stories :,) im really glad it got a reaction from somebody!
im blown away by the rest of the teams work to create this game, especially the atmosphere- putting all the audio, visual effects, illustrations, writing, etc together. im happy it came across so well to players!

Seriously, the entire scene and its execution are amazing. I wish I could express anything about the details but that would spoil the others..

About the story and it, considering that this is a first attempt on writing a horror story makes it more impressive! As for the teamwork, I highly agree, all the various elements were put together very well.

Loved this! Very simple premise but it was refined and the last story actually scared me. There's an odd bug where saving during the first story stops the music, no issues other than that.

I wonder what that code means...

Hey Deyani, TheM3ds here.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the game I made together with Black Mage. This is my first time ever writing for a video game, I had a lot of fun making the story, I hope people like it. By the way, the code is reference to the hex code 8D E1 8C 8E 20 97 D9 From Touhou: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. I just thought I'd put it in as a nod due to her unknown nature as a character being trapped in a limbo of unused source code, hope that Clarifies things.
