I totally get it Marcell. Fuck it, WE BALL
you can really tell that elodie cares for their friend marcell and just wants to make sure it'll be alright for them in the end :((( this game is a heartfelt take on the theme that really nails the danger of being overzealous, and a comforting reminder it's ok to ask for help <3 LOVED seeing all the art and CGs!! so charming!!
An Eye for an Eye makes it very clear what its outcomes are from the get-go, and it uses those inevitabilities to its advantage – its runtime is a steady escalation of tension and dread, and it pays off expertly.
Ooh love a good bit of eye horror. The parts in Ending 1 where Marcell is quiet, you can just imagine what the Beholder is whispering to them. Love the writing!
As other people have said, LITERALLY eye of the beholder ! Me and Bonnacon made a couple quips about it at the start of the jam when we were ideating, but I am genuinely ecstatic to see a couple of the entries that actually went for the whole eye of the Beholder (Monster) hehe
I like the direction you took it after that thought ! I am a bit squicky about eye stuff but the concept of using spoils of war as prosthetics was really neat and I had never considered it before, but you hit the nail on the head with the trying to grab as many 'trophies' as possible, just in this case it came with a cost.
And even though other people have said it, that's a lot of CGs for one person to make ! Good on you
ELODIE!! i love elodie's concern for marcell, and i think their different personalities come across really well. with mentions of other people, like gabriel, it really felt like the characters were part of this bigger world even if we only get to see a portion of their lives. impressed with how much art there is!! also also also, i like that on the main menu screen, the beholder is missing an eye. such a neat detail!! the little squiggle design on the textbox makes me happy for some reason, i dont know why
Eye of the beholder--literally! Love that interpretation of the theme! The art is great and the amount of CGs is insane! It reminded me of my own experiences with medical problems and in mental health center, trying to decide whether you're fine. Sometimes you lie to yourself so many times about being fine that you don't know what fine is anymore. Anyway, you did an awesome job!
AUUGHHH NOOO MY EYE!! <– my impression if i was marcel. but anyways this game was so clever with the theme haha! the little beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing, i see you… all the ways in which the wordplay and the events of the game contribute to being all about beholders and eyes was tickling my funnybone ^_^ and what a horrific concept too! i tried out for the bad ending first because i always like to end on a good note, and what a scary idea to think about…
luckily, i ended on an awesome note with the good ending! sometimes, beholding with a beholder’s eye at no one’s behest but your own doesn’t hold any benefits for your wellbeing… but what a haunting experience to sit through! i’ll be keeping any eye sockets well away from beholder eyes, thank you very much! >_<
So. Many. CGs. HOW ARE YOU EVEN ALIVE RIGHT NOW??? As someone who plays DnD, you really nailed the "everything must become a beneficial trophy no matter the cost" energy in Marcell. Peak chaotic party member energy. Doctor Elodie... let's maybe have a chat about that medical license and giving in to peer pressure for life-altering operations... (•᷄- •᷅ ;)
