such a shame there isn't any sound!! yet this remains one of the more thoughtful games that highlights the theme of the gamejam so well, and ESPECIALLY through all the details and possible outcomes that the player can choose. each character was established and set up quickly, and i was delighted to realize their 'true' nature and how needing to rebel against it actually helps guide them to a happy ending. seeing how they interact with each other and how that shapes their 'reality' both in the writing and the game assets - a unique sprite for each light??? you're kidding me i love it. excellent work!

Ahaha yeah the time crunch was too real, so I omitted sound entirely. xD

Thank you so much! I'm really happy that you grasped my intent! I had so much fun creating Matt's light sprites that I FORGOT that the flashlight sprite would not be used in his route. LOL. Maybe in a future update.

Thrice We See, in my opinion, realizes the Eye of the Beholder theme more fully than any other VT2 entry. The way each perspective plays with tension differently was such a joy to experience, since it meant I was never sure which part of which story would strike hardest.

Developer

Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me.

This was such an interesting story! I was trying to understand what it is that kept infiltrating the protagonists eyes and when it would attack! I really liked how each of their own environment still made sense in their own way with the others environments. RIP to Garrett though he had the worst one 😭.  Playing it three times to see everyone's perspective was also very neat!

Developer

Thank you so much! Poor Garrett... he was the easiest to bully...

One of my favorite uses of the theme by far! Already had my theorist brain gears turning playing as Jules for the first run and realizing there was a sense pattern going on with the three friends. It was such a perfect detail to have your previous runs affect your current runs, gosh I love it when games have details like that. And the sprites? ADORABLE, even when Garrett is a suffering victim of the stinkies... I deem it to be 3 Michelin stars on this lovely meal, thrice over. >3o

Developer

Ayyy thanks! I'm really curious to how people approached the game, so thank you for telling me you did Jules's first! I'm also glad you loved the sprites.

i really liked the way you used the theme here, using different perspectives that build upon and add to one another and yet differ depending on what’s happened in the prior worlds/locations. that thoughts, the world, and even the events change depending on who becomes the pov character, even moreso when we take on the new perspective towards the end. brilliant incorporation of the theme! also loved the sprites, especially matt’s – dating sim when?! i don’t know much about art, but i think it’s very impressive to have three sets with such varying expressions!

i think your writing is so solid too, and it sets off to achieve exactly what it needs to. descriptive in the right parts and vague in others, all pulling together in a macabre yet touching storyline. i loved the beginning fading into black and the good ending fading into white! the contrast makes winning all the more sweeter, when it succeeds. amazing entry!

Thank you so much!!! Matt dating sim DLC soon :) jkjk but I did have fun making his sprites

I absolutely adore the narrative!! The description is so vivid, and seeing the same events from three different perspectives was so absolutely fun. The good ending was SO satisfying, and I love seeing how each friend viewed the group dynamic.

Also, all of the different expressions for the sprites is nice! I am holding these three friends ever so tenderly in my hands, I love them all.

Great take on the theme! I really enjoyed this one ^-^

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the good end, and that the perspective came through! [Places the three friends in your palms.]

Very interesting game. Love the sprites but you may want to consider archiving your images or at least not leaving your .clip files there. But 4 minutes left before submission ends so it's understandable, I guess.

Developer

OMG LOL thanks for that. I didn't realize that Renpy also compiled the .clip files as well. I'll remedy that.

I had a really great time with this piece! I loved the way you incorporated the theme into telling a story with three different perspectives. I thought it was really cool how each perspective clarified some part of what was happening in one of the other perspectives. The character sprites were really lovely as well.
