Days of Saturn is such a lovely confluence of GB aesthetics, microgame stat-raising, and dread! It's a combination that brings out the best in each. It's truly artful, and I deeply appreciate Days of Saturn's commitment to its whole vision.

Developer

i'm glad the dread comes through! thanks for the review.

This was a cute little game! I really liked the visual style and skeuomorphic UI, even if it didn't scale at all, which made it difficult to read.

The UX / UI could have used a bit more polish in terms of information clarity imo, as it was kinda difficult to learn when I was supposed to do what, and what the effects on my stats are

The worldbuilding however was suberb and I really enjoyed it :3

Developer

sorry about the scaling! i screwed something up there when trying to make the game scale pixel-perfect so it seems on a lot of screens it just stays tiny... i appreciate the feedback!

I feel like if I were to say what I didn't love about this game, I would be absolutely silent--just like our poor and lovely acolyte... Everything comes together to set the tone and atmosphere of the game, from the graphics (I LOVE IT WHEN GAMES HAVE SCREEN OVERLAYS!!!) to the haunting music, the heartbreaking to heartwarming story, and all the way to the stat raiser programming you never cease to amaze with. I feel like this might have been the final push I needed to make a recommendation list because MAN do I need to see more people playing and talking about this! Teach me your ways, I am in awe...! (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

thanks!!! i'm really happy the screen overlay is being loved because it's incredibly extra but i had fun adding it.

this game is absolutely polished to perfection!! the palette, the ui, and the plot ties together perfectly and seamlessly into a game that absolutely speaks to the theme and was really interesting to play. i’ll admit, there were a couple repeated runs and checking the itch.io page, but once we got over missing the mistress scene in the first loop everything else fell into place. timeloops are always peak media, and i loved the slow losing of the senses and the way the narrative changes around that – the red of the ui makes the green of the new ending just that much more striking, now that blood no longer needs to be spilled.

i loved unraveling the plot and watching it unfold, and the stat raising was a nice interlude between the visual novel segments. days of saturn is incredibly put together and such a wonderful experience! if this is what you can do in four days, the gaming community is set for the next decade >_<

thank you!! i'm glad the stat raising went well with the visual novel bits because i wasn't sure how well i balanced that.

the gameplay design of this game absolutely sunk me into the deeper plot, replaying to figure out the actual story at hand - but what an amazingly done twist that i couldn't have imagined better, especially with such a charming visual style! the writing effortlessly gives us little clues and hints of what's in store, and i appreciate the buttons on the NDS UI being clickable...!!

the gameplay taking every opportunity to build upon past gamestates is a real treat. combo with the retro the visual identity (ugh the different palettes for gameplay versus ending... UGH i love it), somber piano tracks and well-placed sfx + silence - this game truly appreciates and showcases itself as a heartfelt visual novel. incredible!

i am so glad you appreciate the palette change 🙏 i am a palette sucker and i live to do stuff like that!!

The gui is so nostalgic, and I love how it can be interacted with. The mistress is cute, and i found the challenge of getting the different endings to be quite fun ^-^ I'm not the best at stat raising games, so i did struggle a bit; however, there was never a point where i got frustrated (which usually happens when i play those types of games...), and i do feel like the narrative tries to point the player in the right direction

Developer

hehe i am glad you pushed the ds buttons!! there's no need to actually do so but i feel like it makes the game better 😂

I had a really good time playing this!! Like a lot of other people said, I had troubles with the game being just so tiny even in fullscreen mode but I just sat closer to the screen.

I really loved the go-around mechanic of losing one of your senses each time, especially with the reveal of the Mistress taking them away from you to finally return back was really good ! I spent a good amount of time at the beginning stuck because I kept missing days with the mistress at the sanctum lol. The ending was a little bitter sweet, and maybe I'm just tired but it made me a bit emotional ^^;;

Plus the graphics are super sweet and I loved the pixel sprites of the priestess whenever you changed your stats!

Developer

i don't know what i have done to make the fullscreen not work but that's something for post-jam me to figure out... i'm glad you liked the pixel art!!

Very cool game!  Love how you made a stat raiser for this!  I had trouble balancing my stats though, I'll admit.  Regardless, I really like it!

Developer

thank you! i am a stat raiser fan so i wanted to see if i could make one in time
