The visuals and sound design are definitely the best aspects of this game. The gameplay falls a bit short, however. I think the movement mechanics feel tacked on just so it would have something to do with the theme. You shouldn't have pointless movement mechanics. For example, if you have a double jump and only use it to have taller platforms, or longer distances between platforms, there's no reason for the double jump to exist. You should just remove the double jump and make the platforms shorter and closer together. You need to have setups that would be impossible without the mechanic for it to not be useless. The combat was also kind of boring, but it's hard to do good combat, especially in a game jam.

As i said in a previous comment, it was very hard to get a perfectly balanced game / level design in 3 days especialy when you have to keep everything in the theme while making it easy to play for everyone and with only a 3.5 months experience in Unity haha.We all need to remember that all the games were made in less than 3 days and stop digging too deep to find issues in other's games xD. But thanks for the detailed feedback, it was very helpful and i'm glad you enjoyed the game a little bit my friend :D

I really liked the game but I have some small things I feel you could've improved / can improve after (bigger things) if you want to continue it:

  • There could be a little bit of fog to distinguish platforms from each other, not a big thing
  • If you just spun in circles you could avoid all enemy attacks which defeated the difficulty, also at that point, it was a bit sad that I couldn't finish every level with 0 death count (because of high platforms). This could be fixed by adding hard parkour for non-double-jump players and having different variation in enemies to alleviate the easy-to-use spin tactic
  • The music wasn't repetitive and the sound effects worked well
  • The game was fun to play and with a bit of tuning to the movement system it could feel really great to play (I sometimes also felt like my sword should've hit but it didn't)
  • The graphics are really great in the game and I like the colours, maybe a bit more vibrant green but that is a small nitpick
  • It was on topic and I liked how failure was progress, even though it was a bit forced sometimes
  • I appreciate the enemies having facial effects when you hit them and your sword changing form every time it becomes better
  • The dash felt pretty good combined with the double jump
  • All of the levels looked the same and a bit of colour changing could've gone a long way

All and all a great jam game made in 3 days

You're right at every point. I slowed  down the enemy projectiles after a friend of mine complained about the difficulty which made the circle trick pretty OP haha, i also thought about making the "death is not obliged" idea but i was scared to be off-topic. Very interesting feedback tho, thanks a lot =)

The game looks very nice! the movement felt very floating, but in a good way. The lore is also kinda interesting too! Nice job!

Hi Sina! I completed the game and it was a lot of fun! :D

First of all, the game looks ASTONISHING! Really good job with choosing colors, low-poly models are perfect, particle effects for attack, dash and trail from the top of a sword are really nice! Can't say a bad word about visuals, you nailed it!

Gameplay was very satisfactory in terms of basic mechanics - jumping, dashing and killing was really fun :) What seems a little off for me is death-progression mechanics, I ended up just dying on purpose first time-or-two to get necessary movements, and then trying my best to beat level. I mean, first two deaths change the gameplay drastically (new movement abilities), then it is more-or-less the same (more damage is the only difference, am I correct?). Also, I didn't notice any difference if I finish the level with death count 3 and 6 for example.

Level design was simple but effective, I liked it :) Once or twice I get confused what to do next (as I failed to notice new path unblock after killing some dudes), but I never got completely lost :)

Also story was a nice addition for me, it kept me going further! I have to admit, ending was a little disappointing for me, I expected a small plot-twist or epilogue :<

Overall, there were some small things that could be polished out, but hey, it's a game jam! :D You managed to deliver consistent and satisfying experience with great visuals! Great job! :)

Glad you liked it :D Yes, after the second upgrade you only got a hp reset (2 lives) and a dammage boost, i wish i could add more features but i was scared to make it too easy or to run out of time. Thanks a lot for this satisfying but helpful  and detailed comment =)  (i wish i could give you a more detailed feedback for your game but my english sucks hahaha)

My favorite part of the game was in the first level where you're seeing the white flavor text around you and then notice that one of the pieces of text is black and says "take the dive" or something. So then I jumped off the edge and got the double jump and I thought "Oh fun! So I'm looking for the subversive text to give me hints about where to die to make myself stronger". But then I didn't find any more of those notes. I think if you just get increased stats on death but are reset regardless and it doesn't matter where you die then it doesn't take away from the frustration of dying and it incentivizes just jumping off the edge a bunch at the beginning of each level (not sure if that works. after the double jump message I didn't see any visual indication that I was getting better stats). I'd love to see a version of the game where the black text or something like that is guiding you into doing actions that seem counterintuitive that result in higher stats or solving puzzles. Regardless, it's a pretty game and was still fun at face value for a jam game. Great job!

I agree that the game design wasn't perfect, i made the choice to invest less time in design to be able to finish it on time. Thanks for this detailed feedback tho !

I liked the visuals, but in some levels I was not sure where to go,

Developer (1 edit)

Well i wasn't expecting that with a linear game like this ^^' But yea i'll consider it for next projects. Sorry for that :)

I wasn't paying much attention, I didn't get the "kill the enemy first to move some platforms" mechanic. Also, its cool that deaths happen fast, but some times I was a moving arround an enemy and didn't react fast enough after it killed me and would teleport to the beginning and fall off the edge.

Developer

yes i get you, as you must know, it's pretty hard to look for every detail in game jams
