Excellent color scheme and overall nice visuals and animations. The sounds work well enough for the style and give good feedback to the player about what's happening in game. I was disappointed to just get stuck in a loop on the haunted mask though. After 20 turns of it just using a shield every turn I lost interest. I could imagine playing this game casually after the jam ;)
Thank you for playing! I don't blame you for giving up with the mask, the shield spam is already fixed and primed for an update once the rating period ends :D
(along with other improvements like faster turns etc)
Amazing game! Good job!
Thank you for playing!
The best is the randomness. It gives it a chaotic nuance.
Great game overall.
Hahaha thanks!! I'm glad you like the chaos :>
Fun!
Thanks!
Lovely card game. I admire the simplicity of the audio and the visuals, Really liked the whole vibe and the snappy sounds with some fluid animations.
Thank you very much :)
Thank you so much!
This one is great, I could see it as a full game, with more cards, trying to predict what your ai and enemy will do would be so fun! I think you should further develop this one!
Thank you!! More is in the works for this game, I've already started :D
Had a Blast! It was really creative and Fun
Thank you! I'm happy you had fun :)
Absolutely my favorite one of the jam! I love card game mechanics, and these are simple but really clever. This idea expanded into full blown game, I would seriously consider buying. Good job!
Thank you so much for playing! I'm already working on updates ;)
This game is awesome, the best I've played on this jam so far. High-q's funny dialogues a are a nice touch.
I've seen in the other comments people suggesting a tweak of the AI to avoid "block spamming", and I agree on that. Randomness being random, when the enemy just keeps playing shield for 15 turns it can feel like a drag.
Other than that it was great. A solid 10/10 for me.
Thank you for playing, I'm happy you liked it!! The shield spamming and spamming in general will be fixed in the post-jam update, I've already gone through all the preliminary code cleanup ;) It'll either be the enemy drawing from an actual rotating deck, or preventing playing the same card after a certain number.
I really like this one, interesting way of making a card game!
Thanks for playing!!
Definitely, the best game I have played so far in this jam. Extremely polished with animations and sounds and a really solid entry.
If you want to think about expanding this game, you just have to look into how to not make each encounter last more than a certain number of turns. One thing I faced in one of the enemies is they keep playing the shield and the turns went on. This is expected in a game jam scope but something to think about.
Congrats on your entry.
Thank you for playing and for the feedback, it's very much appreciated :)
The shield spamming is on my todo list for future updates as even I had problems with it during playtesting!
When you say "look into how to not make each encounter last more than a certain number of turns" do you mean just preventing spam and making it easier to finish the fight? Or actually having a set number of turns before it ends? Or something else entirely?
I am not sure which of the options that you have mentioned might work best right now. I am mostly thinking about the pacing of the encounter. You can maybe have a mechanic where the AI loses patience and chooses more damage-dealing cards. Having said all this, I am not sure how much it will work :) So I will be happy to playtest if you want some more feedback
A way to speed up animations would be nice, and the sound could use some work. Neat concept.
Thanks for playing! The animations are already sped up and primed for a post-jam update, what part of the sound needs work? If you have any more feedback it's very welcome! <3
It's oddly silent with the lack of music or any ambience, and only has a few basic sound effects. I guess to put it simply the sound is boring.
Ah that's what you mean, thanks for the feedback! Yeah I was planning to make music from the start but ran out of time
Winner as far as i'm concerned, it feels like a small-ish but finished game.
It's an amazing game concept, executed really well.
Are the card choices really random? Or do the enemies know what cards you have? I swear i felt some slight patterns, but i'm probably wrong.
Thank you so much for the kind words!!
For now the card choices of both High-Q and the enemy are random, yep. It might change though.
The enemy's card choice is based on its "deck", but it's not actually drawing a card from it, it's just choosing a random one from it. So even if the enemy "deck" only has one Heal card, it could show up twice in a row. That might change in the future but I need to test out having actual depletable decks (it might just be shuffled, then an index is kept and once all the cards have been played I re-shuffle the list, etc).
Despite the complete randomness, i felt like i had just the right amount of control
This is my favourite game of the jam I think. At first I thought there was really no skill to it but you can really rig the odds in your favor, such a unique idea aswell. 10/10 dude
Thank you so much! What do you think gave you that idea of control and rigging the odds? I'm thinking about updating the game with different cards/mechanics that could give more strategy to the player, if you have any more feedback on what you enjoyed/didn't enjoy don't hesitate!!
That was epic, good job.
It was tense as hell near the end. The last enemy drew an attack with 3 damage and so did I (randomly with only 3 attacks / 6 cards), I only had 3 hearts and he only had 2. I was actually worried I'd get that far and lose.
This is a great game, well polished and the concept / theme implementation is fantastic - way better than my own submission. Can't praise it enough. I don't often play until the end of a game!
Hey thanks so much for playing! I'm so glad the boss fight turned out ok for you, for some people the randomness just made it spam 1 attacks.. lol
Please you don't have to compare games, they're such different genres/goals!! In some ways I like your project more, the atmosphere & the art for sure! What's important is that we learn from each other :)
oh of course I'm not upset about it or anything I'm just excited on your behalf that yours is so good!
Really nice game! Well done!
Thank you so much!
