This reminded me on an interesting youtube video on Inscryption. I linked it below. The art style is discussed starting around 7 min. Not maybe the practical instruction that you might be looking for, but hopefully gives some inspiration :)

Released my first ever game yesterday. It's a Android game where you throw hoops. It has two levels, the traditional basketball court and a space level. Would be great to get to hear Your thoughts on the game and your hiscores! :)
All feedback hugely appreciated!

Fantastic art style. Really cool effects and loved the presentation! Shadows looked really cool.
Gameplay might benefit a bit with having the player being a bit stronger in his hits. The standard hit felt a bit powerless.
Similarly it felt that enemies were also a bit weak in their attack. Maybe there could be fewer enemies, but with bigger damage?
Howdy!
Got my first ever game out! Yay! It's for Android and I have the apk downloadable here at itch. Game is also available in Google Play store (link in game page). It's quite simple game of throwing some hoops, but with some twists. Would be great to hear some feedback! Enjoy :)

Thanks for the feedback! Very much appreciated.
I was aiming to get that dramatic effect from the big stains, and originally they stayed blocking the view even longer. Definitely worth a rethink for me there.
The difficulty curve also seems to run too fast on the collector side within a level. Maybe should have toned that down. Maybe the 5-combo is too many also?
Good points you had there! Thanks again.
