Nice game. Took a little time to figure out I had to click the words dropping from the screen to fight. I liked how the repetition of the words came into the mechanic.

Making some good progress on the game. I have the base game and am adding polish to make it funner like things to do, sound FX, and stuff. Not going to share a video this so I can focus my free time to get the most into the game. I found a pack of 6 cartoonish-looking characters from the Unity Asset store that I think are perfect for the game. You'll start with Zach (for Zacchaeus) and then unlock Sheba, Mary, Simon, Priscilla, and then Paul. Each character has their own ability and theme song to give them a unique feel.

I have my POC, a basic endless runner type game with obstacles.  The video can be seen here:

With the hardmode game taking some time away, I'm going to have to do a bit less than what I was originally thinking.  How much? We'll see as the deadline is just over 7 days away.

Yeah, I got the crash too. It on the level where you use the push-back ability, trying to go to the right side. But it was a fun game. Nice job.

Nice fun game. The mini-map was pretty good to help find the kids. I like the concept. Well done.

Glad you like it :-)

Ok, done with what I want to do for the hardmode competition. Project submitted. Now back to Classic.

Hope you can get something!

Nice retro look! Any hints on the story?

Beauty through brokenness reminds me of 2 Corinthians 4:6-8 which talks about treasures in clay jars. So, I'm making a game about letting this beauty out. The basic idea is to shoot balls at the pot until all of the clay comes off. Planning to call it "Galactic Crackpot".

Here is a screenshot.

Sounds interesting. Will this be 2D or 3D?

(1 edit)

Yesterday I went out on a 4 1/2 mile run after work to think on some ideas. I thought of a bunch of ideas; RPG on the story of Zacchaeus, puzzle for believers seeking the lost, and a match-3 game among others. However, the idea that seemed to stand above the others was to do a runner game. The obvious game would be to make a game where you play as Jesus or a believer and run after lost souls to catch. My twist is that you will play as the lost soul, running away from Jesus. As you run you'll accrue sin points.

When Jesus catches you, he will remove your sin points and match it with grace points. This brings in Romans 5:20-21 where it talks about  how sin increased, grace increased. Then, you'll be able to use your grace points to unlock costumes, more characters to run with, and other things.

That one sounds like it has a lot of possibilities.

Hey all,

Looks like my Luke 19:10 verse was chosen. I suppose it would be trollish of me not to choose it :-)

In this verse, Jesus is talking to Zacchaeus, a tax collector. Zacchaeus had climbed a tree so he could see Jesus. When Jesus noticed him, he said he wanted to go to his house. I think it's interesting that Zacchaeus came seeking Jesus, but Jesus said His job was to seek and save the lost.

What's standing out to me is that Jesus works through other people to seek out and witness to others about Him to be saved.  The great thing about this is that we get to participate in God's plan to bring salvation to the world. I'll keep ruminating on this as I think of a design.

Peace,
~Kris

Some good insight. Yeah, I'll need to start ASAP too, since I'm a participant this year. WOOOOO!

Speedgame Community,

Question was posed to me about extending the voting window to get more votes in. I also just realized the voting was set to submitter only. I have changed it to public and extended the voting for one more week to compensate. So share with all your circle of friends and social media so we can get some good playing and voting on the games you spent such hard work crafting. Don't feel shy about sharing with non-Christian circles too.

Blessings,

~Kris

So does the player control the red dot?

opengameart.org is a great resource to use no matter your game engine.

Nice climbing. Turning the corner on the building was pretty cool. And I like the pose at the end of the vid.

This brings me back to when I did an RPG for the speedgame a number of years ago. Fun stuff.

If you use Unity 3D, they have built-in pathfinding.

Hey Clint, have you been able to make progress yet? Looking forward to what you have in store for us.

Don't keep us in suspense Sketche99. What are you up to? :)

Raul, thanks for building up the community. I really appreciate you stepping up with me being so busy right now at work.

Very interesting. I think this game has a lot of potential.  My guess is that you may need to reduce the number of levels to fit within the limited timeframe.

Game concept sounds interesting but I'm having a little trouble visualizing how it works. Looking forward to seeing more screenshots for how this game progresses.

The great thing about typing games is that they can easily be extended to help kids learn and practice typing. Looking forward to how this turns out as my son is starting to learn.

Verbose as always Samuli :D

Looking like some good progress. Would love to see some screenshots.

That looks pretty neat and original. Looking forward to playing it. Yeah, once you get the design and code going the level design can be a breeze.

Nice progress. Unity is great to get a game up quickly. Shaping up to be a good game.

Nice up front Design work Raul. RPG is my favorite genre and I remember Phantasy Star. Looking forward to your game.

Belisarius87, you won the funnest game category which is a $25 discount to CGDC this year. Please contact me over facebook so I can give you your prize.

Sketche99, please get in touch with me to claim your prize.

Isaiah222, I haven't heard from you about claiming your prize. Can you get in touch with me?

Great to hear! Can't wait to play.

Tried it out a few times, but couldn't win. Maybe some kind of hint as to what "Jesus' footsteps" are would be nice.

Yeah, I like the micro-chip layout kind of background. Good to see the screenshots. Very interesting.

Tried out the build. That's an interesting pastel-art style you've got there. Interesting going around talking to the different people. For music, I'd check out opengameart.org, they have decent free stuff.

Great to hear! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

The world is really coming together. I'm sure it's going to be pretty fun.
