Very fun :) I enjoyed it a lot !

I'm pretty curious about Pico-8, would you mind sharing the code ? I'd like to see some examples, but if you're not ok with that, it's obivously fine ^^

Right before the deadline x) I got to the hundred mark, after that I couldn't smash my space THAT hard ahah

Nice idea, it felt not too hard at the beginning but got increasingly difficult, nice balance.

I had fun playing on my phone, for some reason it's funnier to tap than to use the mouse, nice idea and congrats for doing a phone version ;)

Nice system :) and I had fun exploring the world! I felt that the overall item repartition was rightly balanced.

Congrats !

Nice idea : I love the fact that the game "naturally" becomes harder as you advance !

Maybe one constructive criticism : I would love to be able to continously press the left mouse button to shoot instead of constantly clicking, and maybe if that becomes to easy, you could add an "overshoot" probability. Maybe one other criticism is that the hitbox for the star is a tiny bit too large I'd say, but not too frustrating :)

Overall nice entry !! Congrats.

Thanks :)

Yeah, that is great feedback. I don't consider myself great at game design, but we've been trying to think with a friend what we could have done to make it a little bit funnier if I had more time, because indeed sometimes you're too focused on the calculator and not on the combat. Combat was mostly here to add fantasy and give meaning to why you're computing, but you're right to say that it would deserve a bigger place !

Also I know there is this weird bug, I wished I had the time to fix it :(

Thanks for the comments !

Yeah I got some feedback for friends asking why the keyboard does not work : it's a design choice (but maybe a bad one ahah), but I felt that the game would be way too easy with keyboard (even if I reduce the timer for the aliens).

As for the raybeam, it's just because there's so much that you can do in three hours ahah. Initially I had thought of pretty cool animations combat and stuff... but heh !

It took me a while to understand that you could stack the black balls on themselves (and not just stack them on the main character), well it was when I had first given up and had a look at the pictures.

After that, I enjoyed it a little bit more :) but it's hard!

Visuals are cute, music is good, congrats for the entry !

I was thinking about the second option : just a way to compare yourself to other players :)

But yeah, I don't think that should be a hard time-limit timer, as the game already feels quite punishing already !

I had a math-heavy cursus but that was 7+ years ago and now I'm bad ahah

Still Pico8 should have been a fun platform to dev on, and nice of point similarities like ellispsis equations and discriminant !

Just asked my family : it's tangram. And it's chinese, not japanese ! My bad.

Hard but fun game :)

I'm a bit of a special case, but since I'm left handed AND on a french keyboard layout, A and D is really awkward for me. I know this require additionnal dev, but sometimes just adding arrow keys as movement can save some awkwardness for a left-handed like me :D Otherwise, visuals are fun et straight to the point !!

Congrats!

This is a fun idea !! I liked it a lot :)

It reminds me of an old japanese game I used to play with my parents ages ago !

Adding the physics was a fun idea, even though it's tough to manipulate sometimes, it's part of the experience :) Congrats!

Hey nice entry ! I played with my girlfriend :)

Maybe the timer is a little bit too fast  by the end, none of us could enter anything, otherwise both of us had fun !!! Congrats !

It's so awesome that you did this with your family :) Overall, this is pretty hard (I picked French, but I'm answering in English so that everyone can understand), but visuals are awesoooome !

Congrats et bravo à toute la famille :)

Quite fun, although, as other mentioned, I ended up brute forcing a little bit ^^ Still the music was pleasant, sfx was good and visuals are great :)

Congrats!

Nice entry ! I really loved the idea and the execution. With some more polish and more level design (like a timer !) and with the game being a little less punishing (for example : you can do three mistakes, but after that game over, instead of full restart), I could see this being a nice party game :D

Et merci pour les touches azerty :D Je me suis bien amusé

Yeah I really had fun :) The timing are great (not too short, but not too long either). The overall story is nice ! Congrats !!

Yes it's like those facebook post :) It's nice and enjoyable (i like math). Congrats!

I had a lot of fun :) This might be a little bit tooooo hard, but that's just me looking for things to criticise !

Nice entry, my best was 13 ^^

It was fun ! It took me some time to figure out that the green ball become red after they touch a red one which increase the difficulty a lot. But I had fun nonetheless !!

Wow, thanks a lot :)

I have to admit I was pretty lucky for the whole atmosphere to come together so well. I just searched for random stuff on opengameart.org and just frankesteined together things I thought cool ^^ even the background was done in the last 30 minutes and I'm amazed myself about how it ended up looking ahah (I initially had plan for the particules to gain more and more speed as you approach the fifth finger but heh...)

Thank you so much for your comment, it feels great !

Well, I'm a very special-case x) I'm left-handed, so I've got my mouse in the left hand, and the arrow keys in the right hand. So anything that does require me to move any hand is fine : right-click or double-left-click or Right-Control. Even better would be rebindable keys any way the user want, but it's clearly out of scope for a 3 hour dev ahah

A story game is no small feast, so congrats for having tried that format :) especially in a short amount of time.

It's great that you took the time to give some visual effects, and, as other says, the music fits perfectly.

Also, as other have said, maybe a little bit more player interaction would have been great, but in 3h there's isn't much you can do. So congrats, I enjoyed my time in the game :)

Wow it's tough ahah, but I enjoyed it !!

Not much to say, congrats.

The idea is great and the fact that you managed to implement this in only 3h is impressive :)

Also the tutorial part was greatly designed ! Maybe overwall this would line small life improvements (sfx, audio, seeing what you are currently putting on the tiles, ...) but congrats for the entry !!

The scope was huge and you manage to finish it ! Congrats for that :)

Music and SFX fits perfectly, difficulty balance feels great (it's not unfair). It was fun :) If I could give one criticism : when your playing with arrow key (because I don't have a qwerty layout so WASD is hard), pressing F to pick while using the mouse is hard.

Still, congratulations, it's a great entry !

The idea is awesome :D

The mashing mechanic is simple but does the job ! I guess my only criticism is that the time to achieve the goal is a tiiiiny bit too long for me so I did not finish it, but I had fun while playing :)

Congrats !

Hey nice one ! I like that you get points when you move, gives you incentive not to stay static !

Very small tips : but since I have non-qwerty keyboard layout, being able so only move with WASD is hard for me :( Also maybe a way to turn fullscreen on/off would be nice.

Still, art is simple but straight to the point and does the job. Difficulty is properly balanced I feel :) congrats!

Hey! Do you have a Linux executable ? It's not possible for me to run your exe :(

Yeah discovering keyboard ghosting about an hour into the jam was... an experience !

I definitely had twister in mind :) my first idea was to say "put that finger on this key", but this was already pretty difficult without it !

Hey thanks !

The 350Mb file is the source code, mostly in case you have issues with the build and want to compile the game yourself (you only need CMake). Also if you want to see the code, you can check my poorly-written code ahah

I agree with the other comment saying that it slides maybe a liiiiittle bit too much, otherwise I really liked the idea and your take on the theme :)

Good job !

Pretty cool :) I don't know if it's on purpose or not but I could stand at the far right in the end and not get touched, therefore not triggering the final message ! Also I mostly stayed on the bottom because the experience was smoother than jumping with space.

Still, congrats for making this entry :) I had a fun time !

Very cool entry :) I enjoyed it a lot overall, but still so (hopefully) constructive criticism : the music stopped playing pretty early :(, some SFX would be nice, and maybe a small tutorial for the double jump mechanics (even though I discovered it pretty quickly).

Overall, nice challenge (the last level was pretty hard, but satisfying when I got through) and good take on the theme !! Congrats !

Wow ! Beautiful design :) also the sound and music felt very appropriate !

It quite difficult to properly decide on your own color palette, but I was a little bit transported for the time I played. Congrats !

I enjoyed this a lot ! My high score is 96, still pretty far from the 1020 goal. I ran into some pretty hard situations and then very calm ones, so I'm not sure about how difficulty scales with time. But still very fun overall :)
