Thank you! They definitely look like crocodiles (or gators), but I was actually just trying to do lizards. I almost went with gila monsters, but that was a bit to busy. That's a fair criticism. Most beat-'em-ups would allow the player to move up and down, and our floor design kind of implied that as well. Thank you very much for your feedback!

I liked the music and the gameplay and artwork were solid. Some other people have already mentioned this, but I had a glitch where the first box of dialogue was missing which made the story seem a bit disjointed. The end screen of the game ended up cutting of what Autumn was saying which was jarring, but admittedly pretty humorous.
Like others have said I like the old school aesthetic and I thought the final message from your helper was very sweet event though it was a little sad.
I did have some issues looking at the Bible. I think the hit box for the bed may overlap with the Bible a bit which can lead to, well not the most fortunate of circumstances.
Overall a solid entry! Good job!
Thank you! I'm glad you like my designs! I love the goofy little face the lizards make too!
Thank you for your suggestions! We actually did plan on adding a snake enemy that would hold the player in place, but unfortunately there was not enough time to make the sprites. I think having the amount of enemies, and possibly even their stats, be based on the players score may have helped increase the variety of the game. That's a good note to keep in mind for the future!
No problem! It's super rare to run into another Digimon World fan! I would love to see you expand this game! Digimon World is one of my favorite games, even if it is kind of a mess... I would love to see a spiritual successor! I think this is the first time someone has been impressed with my game knowledge before. Sounds like you've got a pretty extensive knowledge as well!
Like others said, I really like the art design and concept! I'm kind of surprised there isn't a game or super hero that utilizes this idea (i.e. different powers from different game cartridges) or if there is, I haven't heard of it at least.
I got the float above the ground glitch after beating the game, so I thought it was a literalization of no longer being grounded for a second.
I appreciate that despite running a successful business in the notoriously cutthroat world of magic items, Oswald still has some difficulty navigating the complexities of the English language. It is a powerful lesson on how no matter how much one masters a given field, there is still plenty they know nothing about. This game teaches that, in life, there is always something new to learn and new opportunities to grow.
I also appreciate that guns are considered magic items.
I usually use open source music too. Kudos for doing so well on your first attempt! I opened up a music editor and just stared at it confused for like 30 minutes before being given a different task...
Um, I mean the piano player was thrown out a window when the bar fight started. Yeah, that's what we decided to go with.
Thanks for your input! Yeah, I was thinking that I might need some more contrast between the player and the background as well, but then I thought it would be fine because we weren't really jumping at that point. By the time we did have everything up I had entirely forgotten my plan to fix the contrast. Oops!
Also agree on the punch. Maybe if we had some sort of combo attack it would be worth it, or if you can throw a stunned opponent or something. Definitely something to think about for the future.
I like the art style and don't think I didn't notice the 'Megaman 2' and 'Mario 2' inspirations. It is a little buggy though. I blew up when I threw a safe in an elevator...
I'm curious, the main character seems awfully familiar. He wouldn't happen to be based off of a certain business man turned politician would he?
