Nice game! Most of the issues have already been addressed by other commenters, but I would also suggest darkening the color of the inside of the elevator because, currently, it looks like a foreground element. Besides that, really liked the art style!

The art and the music are really good! The Jump and pick up mechanics are a little wonky and need a little work but I enjoyed it!

Submitted

Liked the art style. The game looks pretty solid. Good job!

Fantastic work on the art and music. Perfect. I couldn't figure out how to pick stuff up and I'm not sure how this fits the theme at all, but this is very well polished from an artistic point of view. Nice job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks. I really was just trying to fit the theme through the use of 1 level. And by the way you just need to stand on top of an item and press x to pick up. Thanks for the comment.

Oh cool! I’ll have another play now that I know that! :)

Great glad I could help

First, I'd like to focus on what I'd love to see improved. Technically speaking, the character feels very difficult to control. The velocity of the character seems to vary wildly and inconsistently between ground and air movements. and I'd regularly miss simple jumps and get caught oddly on corners. Also, I ran into several issues with picking up objects: I'd often get stuck underneath them, and this ended my run every time it happened, which is a real shame!

That said, WOW is this game gorgeous. The pixel art is some of the best I've seen, and the overall quality of both the audio and visual feedback for throwing objects, defeating enemies, and collecting $$$ make the act of going for a high score consistently engaging.

With some tighter controls on the player and a few bug fixes, this would easily be a 5/5. Amazing work, and I hope you continue with this one!

Developer(+1)

Great to know. I think those are all great improvements.  hopefully they will be implemented after the jam. Thanks for the feedback

Loved the art and the chiptune  music.

I like the aesthetics of this one. Colorful graphics and head bobbing tunes, so good. The movement felt bit sluggish or off and I had some trouble using the "springs." I liked the different enemy types and the overall design of the tower.

Not sure if you found your answer to the visual glitches, but do you have a sprite atlas set up? That could possibly fix what I saw (a gap at the top of the tower).

Good graphics, good gameplay, good lvl design, but I don't quiet get how it fits the theme

Woah the art is incredible!

Wow thanks. Means a lot coming coming from you.

Hello, Thanks for submitting your game, i had a good time playing it.

I really appreciate all the hard work that must have gone into the art here, there's commercial products on my phone that look far worse, I'm extremely impressed by even the animation here. The art is fantastic nearly in every facet.

I love the little jingle you put together, there's a lot of charm to it, it fits perfectly with the cartoony asethtic you have going, and really adds to the over all game. The sound effects are perfect too and help bring every all together.

Some of the technical aspects of the game aren't for me. The jump isn't really all that tight and feels a little floaty going up, and really heavy going down. But maybe if i had more time to get used to it i wouldn't notice it so much.

All in all, a lovely product, really well done, thank you!

If you have time, please try out my submission too!

Developer

Wow thanks a lot.

Hey, you asked me to look at your game so here I am.

First of all, the polish on the graphics and visuals is kind of crazy. I love it. It made the game feel professionally done, which I really love. Nice job, there.

The gameplay was alright! The amount of gravity on the character felt a bit weird, but I got used to it and I think it worked well for a completely vertical game. I enjoyed each room, although a few things felt janky. One big thing was the soliders - I got hit by one of them once because he fired a shot just as I jumped on his head and it hit me as he died. This was because soliders don't appear to stop shooting when they can't hit you and instead the bullet just goes into them and disappears. That seems slightly weird.

Also, the grabbing mechanics seemed a bit slippery and weird at times. Sometimes it felt like I should be able to pick something up (like a solider's helmet) but was unable to. It also felt like when I threw my stuff at an enemy they wouldn't die.

Finally, there were also one or two times where I nearly softlocked myself because the jumps were almost pixel-perfect after you removed a box or something.

I say all these nitpicks to the gameplay, but in reality, it was quite good. The mechanics were simple enough for the purposes of a jam, but complicated enough that things were fun.

I liked the fact that you were clear about how your game fits the theme and its inspirations. It was a nice read. Also, the presentation of your game and the itch.io page for it were absolutely phenomenal. Nice job there.

Overall, the gameplay could use some polish in a few areas, but the overall mechanics are solid and the graphics/music make up for most of the deficiencies in gameplay.

Nice job!

Developer

Wow thanks for the long reply. I agree with pretty much everything you said great to know for the future.

Although I don't see just one room in the game, the game is really nice. The graphics is incredible and I was really getting mario vibes. The controls felt bit tricky to handle, but overall this is very solid foundation for a nice platformer. Good job

Submitted

Really nice presentation, and it's really impressive that you managed to create such a long game in so little time. A small nitpick is that the camera movement could have been better.

Developer

Thanks and Good to know. What would make the camera better?

Submitted

I think it moves a bit too much when you jump, which gets a little bit nauseating. I think the "deadzone" could be a bit bigger on the Y-axis

Developer

Oh that makes sense good idea

Great game! Amazing visuals and sound! Although some parts were a little hard for me to understand what I was supposed to do.

Developer(+1)

What would help make it easier for you?

Submitted(+1)

I'm actually not too sure XD. Maybe make the interactive objects outline turn white when the player gets close to it? And the interior of the elevator threw me off a little bit. For a good 10 seconds, I didn't know that you could walk in it, but that's probably just me.

Really enjoyable, super high-quality finished product, lovely graphics, music, and gameplay the only comment I have is that it is sometimes quite difficult to distinguish between obstacles and background objects!

Developer(+1)

Good to know. Do you think a white boarder would help?

Submitted

maybe a shift in colour if its in the background

This game was quite nice! The art was really simple and cute and the sound really went well with it! Jumping felt a little floaty and the falling was a little too fast, but everything else about the movement felt solid! Everything else felt nice and polished, this is probably one of the best games I've played in the jam so far! I'm just a little unsure how it fits the one room theme though.

My high score was 6300 :)

Developer

Thanks for the comment and great score.  I was trying to fit the theme through the perspective of one room/level

Submitted

I loved the look and sound of your game! The movement was a bit too slippery for me and I think that the art assets were sometimes not aligned so that I could see dark lines between pictures whenever the camera moved faster. but this is a minor complaint :D fun game!

Developer

Thanks for the complement. And I would agree in hindsight I probably should have made it less slippery

Submitted(+1)

Very cute game! By far one of the best ones in presentation!

The gameplay is nice, visuals are AMAZING, and soud effects are fitting.

I didn't quite understand how it fits the theme tho :(

Awesome game! Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. And I was just trying to fit the theme though the idea of 1 room. Thanks again

Submitted

Wow really loved this game, the art, the concept, sound everything!! Just one thing i didn't like is the player movement, a bit difficult to control

Submitted(+1)

sooooooooooooooo good. the art is of course impeccable, and the mechanics overall worked quite fluently. the animations have a lot of personality and detail, and the squash and stretch in the jump feels and looks really nice. i also love the coin pickup animation.

the music and sound effects are fantastic. for whatever reason, i stuck around love enough on the menu to hear the entire menu song and was rewarded with a cool little anthem that i otherwise would have missed. the music in the game was quite good too, and really bolstered the feel of a light hearted temper tantrum through the tower. sound effects were excellent as well.

so good. can't wait to see what you make next.

Developer(+1)

Wow thanks a ton
