This was a super cute little game! I enjoyed beating up the alligators (or crocodiles?) I would have preferred if you could move up and down and still jumped up on the bar counter and the tables, instead of them acting as platforms, but other than that nice little game!
Thank you! They definitely look like crocodiles (or gators), but I was actually just trying to do lizards. I almost went with gila monsters, but that was a bit to busy. That's a fair criticism. Most beat-'em-ups would allow the player to move up and down, and our floor design kind of implied that as well. Thank you very much for your feedback!
I love it, its simple and fun, i get a lot of satisfaction when i throw the chair to the bunch of crocodile just need more sound effect and music to make it more juice, anyway its really nice
I'm glad you enjoyed our game! I'll see about adding some music and swapping out the sound effects once the jam is over. Since neither of us are musically inclined, we normally use open source audio. Unfortunately, that wasn't allowed in this Game Jam, so we had to make due.
This needed more juice and sounds/music, but it's a neat concept and fits the theme well!
Thank you! I agree with the sounds and music, but what else do you mean by juice exactly?
Juice is something like sensory feedback. In the case of this game it might be graphical hit effects, camera shakes and that sort of stuff. If the term juice is new to you, you might want to look into it. There are several GDC talks about this, such as this one:
Oh interesting. I was familiar with the concept, but I had never heard the term 'juice' used to describe it before. Thanks for teaching me something new!
Good concept, I like being able to jump up onto chairs or the barcounter. The art is also very good. Maybe some music and a more polished UI is missing, but these are minor details. The game is fun and original, good job!
Thanks! We'll see about adding some polish after the jam is finished.
Fun little game! Music really would have tied the whole thing together, but I really liked the art style and sound effects. Great job!
Oh agreed. Neither of us know how to make music though... Normally we just use open source stuff, but that wasn't an option this time around.
I'm glad you enjoyed our game!
Really nice little game you have made here. I had "Maple Leaf Rag" ON during playing and it really made the experience better :) Love that eventhough you were unable to create sounds during the jam you had pretty good idea what could work well with your game. Pretty inovative approach I must say :) Other than that I was bit confused at first, as it seemed like 2D game where I can walk around the bar (given the mentioned controls) but in fact it was a "platformer-like" level/room. I am ok with that but for future refference, I would consider to stick with either one style or another and adjust the graphics/controls to that. This can feel bit confusing. But that is nothing serious to be honest, just a suggestion. Anyway I had fun with the game! Great job done!
Thanks for playing our game! Maple Leaf Rag has always been my go to song when it comes to bar fights, it's just so jaunty!
That's a fair criticism. We went with this artstyle because it is one I have a lot with experience with, but I do see how it can cause confusion. I'm glad you had fun though!
I really liked the designs of both, the player and the lizards (Love how they react when getting hit). I also like that you can grab anything, and it feels great when they break. Good job there!
It was a fun game, but unfortunately, it lacked variety after a while of playing. Understandable, as it can be quite hard to have a lof of variety in a game jam context, but some simple additions could’ve added a lot. One example would be to spawn stronger enemies (which could just be the same lizard but in different colors), depending on your score.
That’s a suggestion though, overall, the game was solid! Nice job
Thank you! I'm glad you like my designs! I love the goofy little face the lizards make too!
Thank you for your suggestions! We actually did plan on adding a snake enemy that would hold the player in place, but unfortunately there was not enough time to make the sprites. I think having the amount of enemies, and possibly even their stats, be based on the players score may have helped increase the variety of the game. That's a good note to keep in mind for the future!
Fun gameplay, with just the right amount of difficulty. I'd love to see this game expanded: more enemies, more items, new scenes, powerups...
Nice job!
Thanks for playing our game! No promises, but we did have a lengthy discussion about possibly expanding this game yesterday...
Nice Job! Love throwing items at the gators lookin guys, Get out of my BAR!
Same! That goofy face and that little tilt as they fall kinda cracks me up!
Dang, my mind was blown when I realized you can jump up on the counter. I managed to get a high score of 5000, which I am pretty proud of. Overall the game was pretty good, but it got a bit slow when you run out of stools.
You actually weren't able to jump on the bar initially, but I realized that there was a bunch of cool stuff up there and added it in real quick. Before that you just kinda hopped and hoped.
Yeah, the stools are definitely my favorite part. It's just so satisfying to send them all flying you know?
Sound effects were fairly simple but the art was fantastic. Loved how the sprites looked and the bar as a whole. The highlight for me was being to pick up and throw random objects in the bar. imo that really created the "fun" factor. Great job!
I'm glad you liked my artwork! I really love throwing things around as well. I believe my exact phraseology when we implemented that was "I just want to be able to go in there and wreck the place". Something along those lines.
Found the game really good. Really loved the sound effects and the way you could throw almost everything at the enemies. And the art is also super good. Congrats
The only thing I would change would increase the contrast the player and the background and I didn’t find the punch that useful.
Thanks for your input! Yeah, I was thinking that I might need some more contrast between the player and the background as well, but then I thought it would be fine because we weren't really jumping at that point. By the time we did have everything up I had entirely forgotten my plan to fix the contrast. Oops!
Also agree on the punch. Maybe if we had some sort of combo attack it would be worth it, or if you can throw a stunned opponent or something. Definitely something to think about for the future.
Great game! I enjoy throwing stools at the enemies to see them fly up in the air.
Thanks! That's my favorite part too!
Wish I could destroy tables and swing on the chandeliers, but nice graphics and a challenging game.
I wish we could destroy tables and swing on the chandeliers too...
Love the pixel art, very cute! I think one of the biggest improvements could be to change the control scheme around. Maybe putting the punch button as Q,E,R,F so you don't have to shift hand when trying to move and punch. The multi-level aspect of being able to jump on the tables and the bar were smart and surprised me. A cool little bug (I call it strategy) is to hide under a table on the side and the enemies either stack on top of each other on the table or they are funneled so you can just stand there and spam X.
Great job on completing the game!
I'm glad you like my pixel art! That's a good suggestion, after the jam I'll add some alternate controls to account for that. I like getting the enemies all piled up so I can maximize the amount I can knock out with a stool. It's really satisfying!
Thanks for checking out our game!
