I really enjoyed the hook (Surfboard in this game haha) mechanics, and the art is suuuper cute. I need to hug that penguin. Cool and fun game!
I am a sucker for grappling hook games and this is no different. Super fun demo, but number one change I would make immediately is the camera zoom. i could hardly ever see the jump I was trying to make with the next swing.
Its somewhat unclear how fast you need to be going for some high jumps and the spike level's beach ball to flag without swinging jump you make at the end of several difficult swings was to tightly spaced for me to see it was possible so I ended my playthrough there.
The animation done for the player sprite was impressive among the games I've played this jam. Squash and stretch, you got that down
My one major gripe is that the music doesn't fit and became annoying after a while and some sound effects for the player would do miles for the game feel.
I am very interested in grapple physics and if I ever get to work on a long term project I will be doing something with a grapple and momentum.
Great work!
Pretty neat! Assets are cute and the smooth animation and movement added on to it. Gameplay is pretty simple but executed nicely, and the swinging mechanic is pretty nice, but unfortunately I kindda had a hard time maneuvering it (its probably just a personal skill issue though). Nevertheless, still had fun!
Cool game, I really like the art in it. The swinging mechanic is also really interesting and fun to play around. Good job.
Very fun! The art was very cute, reminded me of Gunter from Adventure Time. This was a very smooth platformer! Everything was super responsive. Swinging around was hard to get the hang of at first, but very fun afterwards to do my best Spider Man impersonation. I especially liked when I realized that I could use my momentum to go in almost a full circle to get on top of the block I was attached to. Having that ability almost gave the game two modes: easy mode was doing the loop and landing on each block before proceeding, and hard mode was going block to block without landing.
I unfortunately did clip through the walls once when I got to the top, and wished there was a way to restart from my last checkpoint without dying, because I was unable to find any water on my side of the iron bar :*( The only real issue I found though was with it being a web build while in full screen mode. When I would try to click on platforms near the top of the screen, the browser would assume I was trying to exit full screen and would drop down that big X button, which would take my mouse out of the game just long enough that I would miss the platform and fall.
But other than those two little things, I had a ton of fun playing this game! I wasn't able to make it to the final checkpoint, because that last level (maybe last level?) with the iron death walls was diabolical! Really great job with this game!
Fun game! Really liked the music and art. Swinging also felt good, but ended up breaking the game. I fell through the world while swinging.
You nailed the art style and really loved the penguin character ^^ Game idea and design were amazing, as platformers go, this can be very addicting, very fast.
Using a surfboard as a grappling hook was genius 😂
This is a fantastic platformer! I absolutely loved the penguin and its animations – it reminded me of Gunter from Adventure Time, which was a delightful touch. The number of hints provided was really helpful.
The only challenge I faced was controlling the direction to throw the board while playing on a laptop without a mouse.
Overall, it’s a wonderful game that I thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the great work!
first thing, thanks for making your game left handed friendly by adding the IJKL there, that makes it a lot more confortable to play already
tbh, one of my favorite soundtracks I have to say, I am really vibing on it
and it contrasts a bit with the happy penguin vibe makes the game feel interesting
I feel this throwing surfboard is trickier than i thought it would be, it took me like a couple of minutes to make the first jump ... perhaps some feedback that the left click is doing something to the dirt would have made me sure that clicking on land was the right thing to do
I love how it looks. For me the clicking and holding on the dirt doesn't even work and I can't even get past that part, but in case it's just me who experienced this, I might not consider this specific part in my rating.
However in my opinion mixing keyboard control with clicking in this particular way you are doing it, I think it's not such a good idea.
I really liked the penguin's smooth unique looking animations when moving and jumping, the sweet overall look, I liked the leniency on the jump and also the feel of the jump overall. I like the attention to detail and what's going on in the background as well, it looks really nice. I just got the sense I liked it right away when the game started especially.
I feel like the swinging is a bit finnicky to handle, but still very fun! And great puzzle designs!
Awesome! Not perfect... the controls are hard to get exactly right, and missing and landing in water is a bummer. But I adore how well designed the art and sound is. The music is just right, the fade in and out is good, the introduction of mechanics is great, and swinging feels good. I just don't like having to pinpoint the dirt block with my mouse. If you have ever played Worms 2, (or any of the 2-D worms games after it), which gives you a rope grappling hook, you'll know exactly what I would want instead of this. I think this is going to do really well in the jam.
Thank you for the feedback! I agree the swinging isn't quite how I wanted it to be, I wanted something more like the ninja rope in worms so I totally get what you're saying. Couldn't get it right in time and had to settle for this haha. So happy to hear you like the art and I appreciate the review, I'll check your game out too!
