Track description | Creative process
I decided from the beginning that I wasn't going to try to aim for something like the original iconic SMB underground theme. I was more inspired by Hazy Maze cave from SM64 and the underground theme from SMW.

Composed almost all of the piece on the first day of the jam and then put it aside because I wasn't satisfied with the direction it was heading. I decided I might as well submit it and did some finishing touches on the last day.
It ended up sounding more like a jungle theme than an underground theme to me, in large part due to the percussion, hence a Jungle Cave.

I'm not satisfied with the arrangement of the piece. I feel it sounds a bit too simple and boring. I also think the constant conga percussion loop ended up being too repetitive. (I at least got very tired of listening to it in the mixing phase lol.)

Very nice composition. I like the instument selection alot. Also the drums are very hypnotic.

Ooh vibes. Love this jungle/cave atmosphere. Love the reverbed mallets. Cool chord choice at 1:03. Nice work!

It reminds me of something from a Donkey Kong game, I think it's a nice track even if a bit distant from the theme of this jam. The atmosphere you created is very evocative, with more variations and some care on the mix it could fit very well in a jungle area of some adventure or platform game.

I really liked it, it's true that it sound a bit too woody for the underground zone, but other than that I can see myself playing a 2D platformer to this and the arrangement makes sense for the Mario universe, it's colorfull.

Cool vibes ! I do not find it boring at all, very chill and pleasant to listen to, and there really is an underground feeling to it. Great job !

I like the reference to the original motif in there!

This does create an underground vibe to it, just maybe not the original underground level. The atmosphere of this is great and it would definitely fit in an underground Mario level in a remake!

I really feel that Hazy Maze Cave! Its great, really feels like a smb song.

Rather distant from the original ambience, but still suited to an underground atmosphere, and even to a Mario-style underground atmosphere.

The very end is perhaps a little abrupt.

Actually pretty cool. Did not think it sounded like a jungle cave at all. I think the synths choice and ambiance with all the reverb is well done. There was not as much  presence on the congas as you said, they're rather low in the mix so the jungle ambiance you thought was there is not there at least for me.  I can perfectly picture an underground level.
