How does your game represent Mode?
The player will play as Mad Cat, a pet cat gone Berserk Mode blinded by primitive rage. I think this playful catharsis of impersonating a familiar animal following his nature is helpful for thinking a little bit about ourselves, for releasing stress and avoiding being angry in real life.

The art is good, capturing the cartoon style very well. I didn't find it too difficult though I did tank through with the help of a few cat credits. I wish there was a greater distinction between the shotgun and rifle, but I can't be too upset considering how easy the rifle was to acquire. There's a solid foundation here for something more, so you did a job well done!
Yeah, the only difference between the weapons is the fire mode.
Thanks for the feedback! <3
Fellow solo dev here that also weirdly enough made a challenging cat-based 2D side scroller!
I liked this and appreciate all the custom art resources.
I thought it was way too hard, and again, I'm a fan of challenging 2D platformers. But this was like OG Contra hard, which is way too masocore for my tastes.
The shotgun (the only gun I found? there was a change weapon button but I never found another gun) needs work, it needs to sound less puny, it needs to do more damage, and it desperately needs to have some spread.
Enemies are too tanky and saturate the level with a truly ridiculous number of bullets, bordering on bullet hell. Bullet hell is fine but the game has to give you SOMETHING to deal with it, but in this you have no double jump, no dash, no slowmo, no "panic button" kill the whole screen bomb, just a single very underwhelming gun.
I got softlocked on the end boss because I couldn't hit him from the bottom of the arena or jump back up out of the bottom.
Also, I really disliked the music, but that's a matter of personal taste.
Once again, I love the premise, the title splash art is AMAZING, the amount of custom art is impressive, and I really dug the UI choices and the "add quarter to continue" gimmick was very cool!
Yeah, I admit I'm a little masochist when I chose games to play hahah
I've chosen to aim for a basic NES/arcade era experience, but with infinite lives and little exploits that you can find with practice to reach a No Death Run.
You can acquire the other weapon collecting the giant ball of yarn next to a turret.
The end boss are the turrets, you're not supposed to kill the Rat General. It's inspired by General Morden from Metal Slug.
Also yeah, the music is pretty bad, I did it like two hours before the submissions closing hahah
Your feedback was really valuable, this was my first game and I know I need to make a lot of bad games before a good one, thank you very much! <3
Really like the artwork with this entry the rat enemies look cool and I love the way the player character looks. Also nice that you added controller support because it feels perfect with this game. The enemies did take a lot of hits to kill so it made the game kinda hard but I still did beat this entry after a couple tries.
Thanks for the feedback! <3
I didn't really get any "mode" from this aside from "Hard Mode" because good god the balance was harsh. At least having one enemy dying in 1 hit would've done wonders for the game. The art was cute, loved the character designs. The background definitely has that "Sega Genesis 3rd Party 90s Game" vibe which is cool. Great job!
Long text start:
I was going to add a "Mad Mode" which is basically a Berserk Mode that makes you invincible and capable of instakill the enemies with a melee attack, which could have helped with the balance, but I ran out of time and decided to polish what I had :(
The game is difficult on purpose, it's supposed to be played multiple times, the level is really small and full of exploits to make your run easy, but it requires practice and patience to learn them and get a No Death Run (I assure you that's possible).
I took inspiration for the game design by old arcades: not the coin eating cheap gimmicks (credits/lives are infinite in this game), but more the challenge of learning a game from start to finish through trial and error with the great satisfaction of beating it with some effort, they're like big puzzles but with guns.
After all I make games that I'd like to play myself, so maybe I'm just masochistic haha
Long text end.
Thanks for the feedback <3
I like the art and gameplay feels quite polished! It is too hard for me though.
Don't worry, it's pretty hard for me too hahah
But with a little bit of practice I assure you that you can beat it without using a single one Continue ;)
Thank you for the feedback <3
Bit too difficult for me, some of the attack patterns just don't seem dodgable (especially with multiple enemies) and the player attacks being so slow and feeble encourages just running past enemies. On the upside it looks good, the movement is responsive and gamepad support is great.
git gud bro
Jokes apart, the difficulty is done on purpose, I assure you that the game is beatable "no hit" with a little bit of practice ;)
Really thanks for the feedback! <3
Adorable pixel art, very hard but I'm very bad. Also plays really well with a controller, I recommend using a controller if you have one!
Pretty cool small game. Felt a little difficult for a run and gun and could have fit the theme better. But overall, short but sweet. Cool game!
Also, love the pixel art! Gotta love that pizza tower/ cartoon aesthetic in pixel art format!
Thanks!!
I aimed for a hard experience, but doable with some practice for maximum satisfaction when you achieve the No Death Run. I agree on the theme, it originally had a separated Mad Mode but I ran out of time focusing on the polishing of what I had.
Thanks for the shoutout to the aesthetic, I'm a big fan of my artist' style. It's also his first game project, so big up for Hammurabi!
Aw, sad to hear you didn't have enough time. I understand, it did feel like with a little practice the game could be easier. Your game has potential tbh, would be exciting to see more stuff or something!
Love the animations and character designs! Pizza tower inspired?
Yep, our artist is a huge Pizza Tower fan and Peppino cosplayer!
