I was walking GrogDEV's stream through your game in your stead, and we both had pretty similar stuff to say about it. What you got done in the time you did was incredible, and it really sells the story and the atmosphere. I'd love to see where you take this game in the future, and I really want to see more games that look and feel like this! I hope you get a ton of followers out of this that keep an eye out for your projects!

How does your game represent Mode?
In Beyond the Code the Player uncovers the ability to look behind the curtains of the simulation he lives in.
Devmode (Developer Mode) allows you to enter the "Backend" via console commands and debug anomalies that cause corruption in reality. The backend is a term used in programming to usually describe the server side of an application. in this interpretation it is the code that makes up the fabric of the simulated reality the game takes place in.
The Game asks the old question "What if life is just a simulation" and adds a "what if it is infected by a virus?" to it and transforms this idea into a first person puzzle game.
all puzzles have a rising difficulty as the number of variable digits in the editable strings determine the possible outcomes.
All Assets, Sounds and Music aswell as Coding have been created by myself during the gamejam from scratch

Love the style. Everything feels so cohesive and the creepy atmospheric change is *chef's kiss*. Really cool how much you got completed in the time you did. Great job!
the visual effects in this game were extremely cool! the style of using a limited monochome pixel art style in a 3d environment was already sick enough, but you took it a step further with all of the amazing effects on top of it. i really liked the puzzles, though they were a bit easy. i’d love to see an expanded version of this where you can pick up on clues from the environment! i’d also love to see the story fleshed out more, since there’s a lot of questions that go unanswered. it turned out amazing for something that you started late!
Absolutely INCREDIBLE sense of atmosphere. The visuals, music, sound design especially were so on point, I felt immersed immediately. The game felt very polished in terms of aesthetics, though some small quality of life things such as saving and a menu in general could help.
I ran into a few bugs (mouse would leave the screen and wouldn't switch back to the game, and some of the binary tiles were spazzin out) which meant I had to restart from the beginning each time which was a bit tedious. I still think this game is amazing, and quite literally UNDERRATED. More people need to play it! It's sick!
Really impressive, great job! Nice immersion, I got sucked into the world quite fast. Unfortunately I suffered from a bug (I think), were I still had the terminal up after exiting devmode, then I went over the edge of the map and fell into the void .. forever. RIP!
Still, I enjoyed it!
Really impressive project! I could only dream that my submission had the same level of atmosphere that you managed to create - the sounds, assets, and music are all fantastic.
I wasn't immediately aware that you could drag and drop to solve the debug puzzles, but it was okay once I had figured that out.
I'd love to see where you can go with this - I'll be keeping an eye out for future updates.
Well done! :D
EXCUSE ME??
This is insane! It looks amazing and it's polished and everything. Really hoping this goes somewhere once the jam is over because I'd love a full game of this. I'd love to see what other puzzles can come up.
Definitely had some bug issues, I kept getting blank numbers in the debugging window, and that interface in general was pretty unclear. But man oh man, the atmosphere was absolutely worth dealing with any bugs. Opening the game for the first time was a whole experience. The visual style, sound design, A+
Thanks so much for the Feedback. i only managed to reproduce the Debug missing character bug once. Still no idea why it happens. i guess its if you interfere with them while they are still beeing generated. should have locked player input during that time.
For the first time opening the console i tried to make the player figure it out themselves... thats why the command line gives feedback on your input...the only thing the player really needs to do is enter "help" for the first time. with a bit more time and testing there would have been alot of improvement possible here. glad you figured it out in the end :D
Really glad you liked the atmosphere :)
