This is such a cool game! I couldn't get past the second gate though. May have been my laptop but for some reason I couldn't press x, v and b at the same time. Perhaps it's some kind of conditional branch error? Whatever though. I'm giving a good rating. This was nice.

Okay once you figure out what the controls are, this game is really fun! Just a realtime tower defence.
I've had some problems with the controls though. The cursor bugs out sometimes and just isn't where I need it to be. Because of how the game can lead to intense situations, I think a quicker UI would be beneficial. Easy access to any item at any time would make a good flow. Good game!
I think that Astrostead aspires to be more than a jam game, which is good for the game but bad for the jam. The game looks great and it presents its underlying concepts and story nicely, but the gameplay feels aimless and uninspired, like a badly truncated version of what you were trying to make. If you are planning on turning this into a much bigger game, I hope it goes well for you because there is something cool here! It just isn't coming through in the jam.
I really... Enjoyed this?! I honestly didn't expect to be so intrigued by it. Despite the lack of sound, music, and better visuals, I think the concept at this game's core is really fun. I'm imagining how fun it could be if this were on a larger scale, like a fantasy-football type thing.
But instead of managing a sports team, you're managing an adventurer's guild. Instead of putting together a team of sportsmen, you're gathering a party of heroes to go on a quest. You turn young warriors into famous heroes.
This game has potential!
I'm happy to hear that it left an impression! Though I don't think I'll be implementing a cover system for THIS game, your earlier comment introduced me to a new concept - "bullet hell"!
I'll be implementing this, along with a cover system, in a game I've had in mind for a while now. Thanks for your feedback.
Thank you for the criticism. I'll implement fixes once the jam is over.
The thing about taking damage even though you can't die - that's where the Jam's theme of 'deception' comes in. Ideally, I would never have told the player that they can't die. I just did that as part of submission.
This is what was meant to happen:
You are made to believe that the "armed cannibal gangsters" can kill you. Each time you're shot, you turn red. When you pick up a health, you turn green. "So surely I take damage and can die?"
Knowing that you can't die, you've realised that something is wrong. ie Somebody deceived you into believing that these cannibals can hurt you. If you've been deceived about that, what else have you been deceived about?
Omg the instructions were right there! That's on me. The problem is that the game just instantly loads into the level and you're getting beat from all sides by mobs. Didn't process what was happening until a bunch of graphics told me I'd died.
I gave it another shot and it does have a lot of potential. It's just the high sensitivity and movement speed making it awkward to navigate, but that could be an individual thing.
This game is actually pretty tense. It's fun!
Never have I ever thought that I would be invested in the survival of a cube. Never have I ever thought that I would be interested in cube-politics either. There should be a sequel where the cubes rise up against the overseers and rebel against conformity.
Good job!
