Nice entry, was nice to play! It feels a bit frustrating when getting stuck on the walls, maybe it would be cool to recover a bit faster from a crash. Also nice work with the soundtrack - enjoyed it!
There’s a built in TrailRenderer in unity, you can simply add two or four to your car, that would look drastically different.
Thanks! I'm working on using trail renderers for my next game. Definitely the first thing I'll add if I update this game because as you said it will make a drastic difference! I haven't figured out unity physic materials yet which is why you get stuck to the walls because I'm calculating the friction and drag. I tried to make the turning sharper when you go slower, but it doesn't make enough of a difference.
Nice challenge, it felt good to drive! If I were to recommend anything, it would be a bit more feedback to inputs, similar to what others have said
Thank you!!
A really fun game once you get the hang of the controls. I agree with the other commenters that a few more tracks would be really cool to add.
Thanks! I'd love to add more tracks. I'm planning on doing so when I do a full release for this game (and perhaps a mobile release as well). I'd also like to add more cars to play around with.
I think the controls and handling of the car feel really good. Would to love to play on a couple more levels - maybe some levels that extended beyond a single screen too.
One suggestion I have is to make the speed increase feature more obvious when the player completes a lap. Maybe display a popup for a second with the new top speed. I didn't actually notice the feature until I read the description.
Yes that was an idea that got lost in the fray! I wanted to say "FASTER!" or something on the lap end, but just never got around to it. I will add more tracks if I ever release an actual version :)
Super addictive once I got a feel for the controls+physics! Slappin' tunes too
Really nice game. Well implemented and easy to pickup. I would prefer if the driving controls were more responsive, higher acceleration and faster turning. Visual feedback indicating if I am drifting or not would also probably add a lot to the game feel. I really liked this!
Thanks! The controls being a bit tough has been the general feedback. I wanted to have drifting lines to indicate if you are drifting I just never got to it XD
A creative take on the theme! I having played "racing" games for a while, so that's a nice change of pace. Good job!
Fun game, it's hard to control but it feels real, I kept drifting around and stuff haha
I also like that the UI is basically part of the game map, nice music too. Good game!
Fun game! The controls are kinda hard but when you get used to them it's fun!
Very clean arcade experience, it was a bit tough at first but after some time I felt like a pro, overall good job mate :D
Once you get a hang of the controls, it's a ton of fun! Great job, really dig the music too!
Very fun and simple! First lap was so hard to control but in the second one I was drifting like a pro, love the controls and the collisions in the racetrack work perfectly. Nice job!
Nicely done, good work.
Nicely done, good work.
19.50s best I got haha. Love the game and the drifts feel fun
Love the soundtrack! Always super happy when devs put care into the music of their game!
The car is a bit hard to control at first, but after getting used to it, it feels good to drift around!
Simple arcady drift game. Super nice!
Usually in jams I try to provide details on what I liked and some suggestions on what I would improve, but I improvement suggestions don't really apply here, because I didn't find anything that stuck out to me. I liked that you kept it super simple ( 1 level, laps obviously tie into the loop theme). The game looks great, its simple yet enough little details to make it look really polished.
Congratulations on completing and submitting in time!
Thanks! I wanted to make animations for parts of the background which would have made it more visually interesting, but I was happy with what I had and I didn't want to risk any performance issues. I'm planning on expanding out the game after the jam ends with more levels and cars (and perhaps an actual story line!). I'd like to do a system say where say after 8 laps you unlock the next track and even implement some car upgrades. So far this is my best release by far and the first game I've actually been considering to keep working on. I appreciate your feedback thank you!
No problem! Yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun. I think my entry may be my best so far as well. It received the most polish I've given a jam game and it had a sizable scope.
Yes I was wondering how you accomplished your scope!!! Lots of planning and preparation I assume. Impressive work for sure.
Thanks! I discussed it in a comment on my entry's submission page, but planning and preparation did not come into play lol. I couldn't really think of a cool mechanic that ties in with the loop theme, so I interpreted loop as repetitive, and whats more repetitive than grinding in a RPG? I had always wanted to make something like this, but didn't think I was able to until possibly now.
So I decided on the RPG and made its scope much larger than I knew it should be. My process was to separate every idea/mechanic into three categories: 1) must haves, 2) should haves, 3) would like to haves. I then starting on building out the core features. At the end of a session I would compare my time estimate to the actual time it took to complete, look at my "would like to haves" and scrap parts that I knew would take longer than I had left. I repeat that process, until I had the must haves completed. By then, I only had time for polishing, so selling items (a should have) got scrapped. Wasn't detrimental, but buying items was more important.
Overall, it was a fun project and I exceeded my expectations!
It was funny to play it! Drift system is marvelous. Good job, mate ;)
Good job!
