Thanks for the kind encouragement! Thanks for playing!

I liked the twist at the boss! I ended up being a greedy pirate and literally paying for it. I thought the art was unique (in a good way). Thanks for your submission! Keep at it!

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words! Thanks for playing!

Enjoyed the presentation of this game, and it was fun to play. Liked the art and concept of the game, although the boss wrecked me lol. Great submission!

Developer

thanks for the feedback! Sorry about the boss, lol 😂. Thanks for playing!

The crabs were dropping coins Hahaha! :D. That was some great art. Loved the game! I think controls and animation could have been a little better but I won't hold that against you in a game jam. To make this in 7 days is an amazing feat! Thanks for this game!

Please take some time to play and rate my game as well. I would really appreciate it! Thanks a lot!!

Developer

Thanks for encouraging feedback! Glad you enjoyed it! I'll definitely check out your game! Thanks for playing!

Cool game! I like the concept. My first play through I got wrecked by the boss haha but it's ok because it was a neat little twist to see how to game related to the theme. The UI and transitions look great, though I think I the boss still attacked me after I paused the game. Other than that though great game! good job!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

Nice game,
The art style is unique, and the UI looks good!
I didn't understand why you can hit the crabs endlessly to get an infinite amount of coins, but overall good job!

Developer

thanks for the kind words! I guess I left it in to see how greedy the player would be, only to find out it drastically hinders you later on. Kind of the whole "curse" thing with being a pirate. Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted

I really like both twists. :D

I had more than 100 coins, so it was a bit too long waiting when the boss comes.

Developer(+1)

yeah, changing what happens with a lot of coins at the end is definitely something that's on my list to fix. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I loved the art style and the alternate attack animation was a nice touch! The main concept was unique too and made for an interesting twist when you got to the boss battle! The boss didn't attack me back for some reason though. The controls felt nice too, the jump could've have maybe gone higher, but that's just personal opinion :D. Overall, this is a great jam entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the encouraging feedback! yeah, the boss ai has some bugs I have to work out. Thanks so much for playing!

Cool game. I actually really like the art, it's cute. I also really liked the music. The gameplay was kinda confusing to me. For some reason the game woudn't go fullscreen so maybe I missed something outside the screen but that's probably just a problem with my pc

Developer

thanks for the kind words! I'll have to check about not being able to go full screen. Another person said they couldn't see the Ui, which would definitely make the game very confusing. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I figured out the fullscreen, it's not your fault, it's actually itch.io. When you're going through random games, you can't fullscreen. You have to go to the games page and then you can fullscreen properly.

Developer

ok, phew! I'm glad you were able to figure it out! Thanks for letting me know!

Arts a little bit too saturated but I like them. Animation is good. The ambiance is pretty cool.  Nice little story.

Bug: When I retry the game the opponent pirates is no more here (or invisible).

Developer

thanks for the feedback and the note about the bug! I really appreciate it! Thanks for playing!

Amazing game. I love the nice gameplay. I would make me very happy if you would play my game.

Developer

thanks for the kind words! I'll definitely play your game! Thanks for playing mine!

Submitted

short but sweet, me like!

Developer

lol. Me glad! Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

seems like all the art is hand drawn good details on that by the way :) i know that takes a lot of hard work as i am never able to achieve that

nice game play enjoyed playing

kudos :)

Developer(+1)

thanks for the encouraging feedback. Yeah, art is difficult (especially when you're only using a mouse 😉). Thanks for playing!

Well, the crabs play me haha! Liked the art! Well Done

Developer

those dang crabs! Lol. Thanks for playing!

The ending genuinely made me smile! It was a nice little experience and must've been fun to make!

Developer

im glad you liked it! It's always fun flying by the seat of your pants during a game jam, but im glad to slow down now. Thanks for playing!

Nice little platformer, I think the sky could be a little less yellow but I had a good time. Good Job!

Developer

definitely agree about the sky. I started with my logo background sky and kinda forgot about it. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Great job! I hyper farmed some crabs at the beginning thinking I was gonna be rich. Turns out it just meant I had to sit through a 10 minute cutscene XD.  Good game :)

Developer

10 minutes???!!! Wow, I kinda feel sorry for you, but definitely kudos to you for sticking it out (you still won the boss fight, right? Lol). Thanks for not rage quiting but playing my game to the end!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool. I laughed really hard when I had to sit for 3 minutes watching the pirate take each and every coin out of my purse haha. I watched your devlog too, really nice and short. And I can appreciate that you're having to do all this while on dad mode; great job! In the video you mentioned having a hard time resetting the level, did you consider re-loading the Unity scene? You should also check out Unity's skeletal animation system, it makes animation these 2d characters really easy :) You crafted a really nice experience, great job!

Developer

thanks tylR for the encouraging words! And you were still able to beat the boss after those 3 min, right? Lol.  I did consider reloading the entire scene, but since it's only 1 scene, there really wasn't a good spot for me to add another scene and still have the kind of effect I was going for (especially since I wanted that transition effect from title screen to the level to be smooth).

Using a skeleton was my first goal with my characters, but when I opened the sprite editor and changed to skinning editor, everything dissappeared (the sprite was a single sprite), then when I changed it to multiple sprite, I was only able to make a bone on one sprite at a time and I didn't know how to connect them together. I think it got too late, so I just stuck with animating each body part in the animator.

Thanks for your great suggestions! If you know how to add bones to a single sprite and still have the body parts be on different layers, Id love to hear how to do it! Thanks for playing!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

You might be able to still keep your nice title transition by using an additive scene for either the game or the title. But either way you still pulled off the replaying really well! For the skinning editor, you export your sprite as a .psb which Unity can import using the "PSD Importer" asset. Unity will notice your body parts are on different layers and will automatically split them as a "multiple" type sprite. Brackey's has a good tutorial, and after an hour or so you should be set! Good job once again :)

Developer

ah, yes! I remember now, I watched brackey's video but he uses photoshop. I use krita but krita doesn't have (as far as I found) an equivalent  psd exporter like photoshop does. Thanks again!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I use Krita too! It can export to psd but not psb, but there is a way to convert between the two. Export to PSD then convert the file to PSB using "magick". https://imagemagick.org/index.php
Idk if you can convert with the GUI but I do it from the terminal like so: "magick convert my_image.psd my_image.psb"

Developer

sweet! That's so awesome! Can't wait to test that out with my pirate sprites! Thanks again!

i dont get the theme what here is less is more? other than that the jumping is quite deemphasized and so is the saber swinging. the platforming is primitive. the graphics are pretty decent (better than anything i ever did) and sound design is very good. overall mediocre but not bad.

Developer

definitely agree with the mediocrity of the game, but I guess my only hint about the theme being in the game is: the effect of greed. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I like it! Differences between the foreground and background objects reminded me of some SNES games.

Developer

thanks for playing! It's hard to move past the "flat" look when I'm not a very good artist, so thanks for your kind words!
