Game's Take on the Theme
In Spinning Gears, you embody a mechanized armadillo that spins. Also the boss uses the them as well, it's a turtle that damages you by spinning around the arena.

Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
Yes, except the SFX (from Freesound.org) everything was made by me!

Great job on the entire game. It was a truly memorable experience!

Thanks!

Fun game, my only complaint would be that you could probably have more chances to attack the boss, since a lot of the fight feels like a waiting game. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback!

I love the visuals, very futuristic. The controls are very nice, the boss is pretty easy tho, I think it either needs more HP or more challenging attacks. Besides that everything else is pretty good, nice take on the theme.

Thank you for your feedback!

Actually funny you say futuristic, I wanter something closer to steampunk at first, but maybe my art direction went a bit too much on the neon vibe for the character. I needed it to be blue to differenciat it from the boss.

I really enjoy this game, the visuals are fine and the bosses attacks are cool, maybe you should direct them more against us so that we are feeling the need to avoid more, but all is cool really, I rate graphics on top but all is nice, also if you can, please rate my game, thanks!!

Developer

Thank you, I didn't expect someone to rate the graphics on top, but I'm glad you liked them!
I'll try your game asap :)

Fun game, visually pleasing, Wish there was more openings to hit the boss, the amount of attacks felt long and It was rather easy to dodge so I never felt that I was in any real danger. I liked the feel of the controls though, it just felt right.  Well done.

Developer

Thanks a lot! I agree the boss should require a bit more actions from the player.

glad i played on controller, i really like how you can roll for speed and then come out of ball an use the trigger to quickly get back into the ball to change your momentum! I will say I wish i could attack the boss instead of just dodging and waiting for him to be vulnerable though

Very slick movement, rolling is really satisfying, but for most of the boss fight you barely need to move at all. Most of his attacks can be dodge by just walking a little, and sometimes just standing still is enough. I think attacks that force the player to use the roll more often to avoid the boss would make the fight more engaging.

Otherwise I like the art, the armadillo and turtle designs are solid, and the music is good too. Nice work :)

Thanks a lot! The controller was supposed to be made by someone else but I had to take charge of it. I'm usually not great with physics and learned everything during this month, I'm glad you liked it!

About the boss I didn't think it would be that easy for people to dodge, I thought it would be too hard to control the character for players but it turned out it was actually easy. Sadly some attacks that forced roll a bit more were too glitchy and had to be removed (like boss jumping on character).

The movment system is quite fun, and you know its good when you get the sticky keys...

I think only having the boss be attacked when it is green makes the game feel alot less methodical and fun, ussualy you have to worry on how to not take damage but also do damage, here you just have to do 1 or the other which makes the game less fun than it could be :/.

The art is really good and the boss design is nice, with the turret coming out of his back.

Only criticism art wise is when the boss is rotating, the particles should not rotate with him. Not sure which engine this was made in but in unity it would be world space to make the particles not follow the transform of the boss, that simple change would be a cherry on top. The players spinning particles look amazing !

Great game, good job ! :D

Thanks for the feedback!
I didn't want to have physical combat between the character and the enemies because I thought it would be too chaotic and hard to handle. I prefered taking a more platformer-ish approach.

About the particles it's actually world space right now, it's just that I apply an orbital movement so that they spin because it was looking awkward otherwise. I tried different things to make it seems good but didn't find a better option than this that trully gave the spinning sensation.
