Good game and dynamic music. There are small bugs, rather weak optimization

Challenging but fun and good-looking.

Hey, great entry here! I think the style and colors works really well, and also a smart choice to go more orange/cyan for certain kinds of color-blindness. I was very surprised to make it to the final boss - and beat it! I'm typically terrible at these types of games but I actually got the hang of the combat fairly quick. Anyway, great entry, really liked the power-ups after each wave and that you could restore health. I suppose my only criticism is that the tie-in to the theme is a bit weak, but hey, sometimes you just have a game idea in mind and go with it!

You can check out my gameplay video playtest below!

Developer

Thank you for the gameplay clip!

Nice game! I love simplicity, animations, sounds (there is almost sound for every interaction), shield mechanic is awesome, and main, color switching mechanic adds difficulty, but not to be too difficult, but to be more fun. I really enjoyed playing your game, so keep good work! Congrats!

The best game i played so far in the jam, amazing mechanics, very satisfactory progress with the power ups, and the bossfight its really challenging, the only drawback I see is that it does not fit the theme of the jam, but for me, a really good game could come out of this little project. Congratulations!

Developer

Glad that you like it! What are your thought about the current movement?

Submitted

I like it, it is different from what we are used to , add a level of difficulty its nice

Difficult but fun game! I like the music

Very cool art style, and the concept overall is a classic one that never fails! Agree that responsiveness / movement could be polished a bit more. Nice SFXs too. We use a similar projectile type in our game :D

Great concept. Love the art. The gameplay needs some tightening up. Responsiveness in particular.

Developer

Thank you!, do you mean the movement responsiveness?

In part. It seemed like there was an unpredictable delay in shooting, and shield activation as well. Perhaps it's an artifact of the web build.

Strange move, but good

Great  game

Great color palette. Good "how to play" section. Fun gameplay, hard to master. Like the upgrade system. Insane soundtrack. All together, aaa superb jam game.

Developer

The upgrade was added last second, I will try to make it more interesting in the later jam!

I liked your game! The fact that you want to do better is normal, and you probably learned a lot.

As others have said, the game is quite hard to control, but I like the idea, the graphics and the soundtrack were great too.

Fun game, but I found it quite difficult to try and attack while trying to dodge bullets, since the direction I wanted to fire in was often in the path of a bullet. I feel like this mechanic should be the main focus, because the switching to different colours does feel a bit much more difficult in my opinion. A difficult curve was also something my game missed!

The game is pretty fun, and the sound effects very satisfying, the art style is great and I love how the final boss is just your profile picture, but the controls are really annoying, because you always move towards the cursor, it was hard to aim towards an enemy without also moving towards it, I know if you put your cursor really close to your player, it doesn't do that, but that's really finicky, so maybe you should have just gone with just wasd movement and shoot with left click and block with right click? Also there's way too little feedback when hitting an enemy, taking damage and killing and enemy, you should add camera shake, at that makes everything better, particles, like enemy dead and damaged, and maybe a red flash of the screen when getting damaged yourself, also the missiles should have explosion particles on contact, and getting an upgrade is way too unsatisfying, there should be a ton of particles and the upgrades should come to the screen much more slowly, as now they have a really fast animation, but it's not really that satisfying, also you should add an animation for when the upgrade screen goes away, and when you have maxed out an upgrade, there should be a text or something that says maxed, as now you are left wondering for a while, that why can't I buy this upgrade any more. Also why are the upgrades appear and death sound effect some meme sounds, it's just weird. Then also you should add something else in the background, other than just a plain color, it's really boring currently.      Aaand now that I gave you tons of feedback, you are legally obligated to play our game on your stream, as playing your game was apperently a requirement for that :)...

Great entry to the game jam. I'm awful at the game lol but it was fun to try it again and again. Nice job :)

The game looks and sounds amazing. The level of polish is great. Also I think the game concept with the 2 different colors and attack or defend is a cool idea.

But sadly it is nothing for me. I tried multiple times, but the movement, following the mouse, to attack is just nothing I can seem to handle. Maybe if the movement and attack were decoupled I would be able to progress. But also not sure how much that would take from your original game design

Submitted(+1)

pretty cool concept, having an animation for getting upgrades that way players don't accidentally click a random upgrade when it comes up would be a nice change (happened to me a few times). nice entry

WebGL freezes my whole browser, but the downloaded version works fine. It's a pretty cool game, but I think aiming is a bit weird when you move with the mouse.

Interesting take on Ikaruga style mechanics to create a vampire survivors type arena upgrade shooter. The art style looks real cool, and the shooting feels nice. I did have an issue with moving toward the cursor, it caused me to either have to position the mouse close to the player, making aiming awkward, or else to position the cursor on the enemies to try to target them, inadvertently rocketing myself on a mad dash toward the enemy.

Overall I think you made a cool game, but I would have had a lot more fun with more traditional movement control.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! I will try adding a zone around the cursor that player can't go through, which might help! I will also try the regular direction key as well!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I enjoyed the gameplay and felt that the game was really dynamic. The art is great too, I just think the idea wasn't really what I expected from a game around the theme of this jam

Submitted(+1)

It's a nice concept but I feel like the mouse control could use a dead zone so if the cursor is close enough to the player he'll stop following it so you can actually shoot without slowly drifting toward your cursor as the closer you are to it the bigger the angle of shooting change for the same distance mouse travels, also it would be nice if  there was a small breather between waves so you have a chance to catch your breath and reposition. Also it's almost impossible to realize that it's a game about space I actually needed to check "How does your game fit the theme" to notice I feel like something like particles or a scrolling perlin noise texture with high cutoff could have created some nice stars so you could actually connect the game with the theme.

Developer

This is really great feedback, especially with the "dead zone", thank you! I will also update the background after the jams over!
