In what way does your game fit the theme?
1) You must rewind the voicemail before you can listen to it/delete it
2) The voicemail is about a "genius" invention that will certainly be useful in the future - self-rewinding videotapes
3) It's set in the past in the year 1993

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes

At first glance, i though it was going to have an horror twist (Sebastian gave me a little jumpscare at the start XD)! However, the idea was pretty original, interesting and fun; I really liked how you used the theme!

I think you should implement an slow walk key, because having to stop everytime because of the sound bar makes the game slower than the necessary!

Congrats for the submission! :D

(Now the important question is... Will we ever be able to pet Sebastian?)

Developer(+1)

We wanted to give that horror feel but have everything be light and safe so I'm glad we hit that for you :D Definitely wish we'd added a slow walk or crouch option, would have given just a little bit more flavour to the creeping around - next time!

We've been getting a lot of requests to pat Sebastian so I think we might have to make a dog patting simulator next ;D

Submitted(+1)

I do not know if it was meant to be that difficult, or if the code needs some tweaks, but when the computer was charging the bar on top moved faster, and when unplugged the pointer moves really slow. I could not finish it after half an hour of trying because I got too frustrated. I do not know if moving code from Update() to FixedUpdate() could fix this NVIDIA Battery Boost system, or if the pointer movement could also be related to my screen size (1920x1080). I wish I could be of more help, sorry guys.

But overall I loved the concept and the mechanics, and I am looking forward to play it if it gets fixed in the future. Keep up the good work!!

Developer

Weird! That's a really interesting bug - probably won't patch anything at this point but I'll have to find someone with a laptop to test it with because now I'm really curious :D I only used update() for all scripts and that might explain the physics problems with the bone too...

Submitted(+1)

This is a really cool take on the theme! I think the sound bar is an interesting idea but in my experience it mainly meant I just had to stop moving periodically which messed with the pacing for me a bit. Still that's something that can be tweaked in a post game jam. Really great submission! (PS if you make a post jam version please let me pet Sebastian, he is very nice)

Developer

Yeah, I wish I'd tweaked it more during play testing but there was so much to do :D I feel like a little stopping now and then can still work but right now there's not enough chance to build tension! Glad you liked Sebastian!

Submitted(+1)

You could experiment with adding audio cues like a floor board squeaking or a door creaking which would mean the player would have to stop periodically. I hope you keep working on this :D

Submitted(+1)

Really fun! just wish that there were a few more things that I could do to get my meter back down, the dog was very difficult to shut up lol.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, Sebastian is a bit of a brat ;D

I liked the concept behind this game! I really enjoyed playing, though it took a couple tries to figure out the layout of the house. The bar at the top was a bit annoying and slow, and I didn't even realize it was "noise" at first; I was just annoyed and confused as to why me walking around downstairs would affect my stealth for a man upstairs sound asleep. Also, I'm not sure I would've been able to beat the game if I hadn't accidentally gotten the dog stuck on a table because he couldn't go around a corner to grab the bone 😅. Otherwise though, this is a really neat idea, and I'm impressed at the quality and creativity of the story for only a week-long jam. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The dog-bone-table hack is a secret reserved for the very best players ;D

An icon on the sound bar probably would have helped a lot I think!

Submitted

congratulations this is a awesome game!

i just missed the crouch.

Developer(+1)

I didn't even think of that! We made a stealth game without crouching, that would have fixed so many balance issues we ran into D:

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

as asbjorn says: PLAYTEST! lol

Submitted

That was a fun game! Unfortunately the dog may have some troubles getting out of the floor. But at least he was occupied!

Developer

Haha, amazing! That happened to us once or twice during play testing but we never figured out what caused it. Glad you had fun :)

Submitted

I absolutely love the dog, but please, for a post-jam version let me pet it please lmao.

Really the game is fun and simple. Good job with the sounds and details!

Developer(+2)

He's pretty low poly so he might be a bit spiky but still very cute ;)

Thanks for playing!

Cute idea! Loved the dog.

Could you please play and rate my game too?

Developer(+1)

Glad you had fun! I'll check out your game in a few hours :)

Submitted

Please do. I’d appreciate it!

Submitted

Bodgins, did you have a chance to come back and play it? I was hoping to hear your opinion on my game and hopefully get a rating too.

Submitted(+1)

I want to be mad at the doggo but I can't.

Game was fun, I liked the idea.
The gauge was a bit too slow to empty for my taste, resulting in great moments of nothing.
Having the recorder change places was a nice touch to avoid cheesing.

And had a lot of fun trying to move along with the music, to make it so the gauge is filling because my character has cymbals on their feets.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the dog - he's a lovable scamp ;)

I couldn't get the timing right on the audio gauge, we had the same problem with it emptying too slow but we ran out of time to tweak it :p

Lol’d at signing your e-mail “Alex (genius)”. First thing I did in-game was turn around and exit and my reaction was “oh, 2/3, not too bad!” haha.

Very funky vibes from the music. I got owned by doing the wrong action on the voice recorder the first time, good touch. Enjoyable experience, though I wish the noise bar had gone down just a bit faster :D Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely agree about the noise bar, we ran out of time to get the balance just right and right now it means a bit too much standing still and just waiting. Glad the machine got you the first time ;)

Submitted

I wish I could throw a toy at the wall and keep my dogs occupied like that. It took me forever to realize the rewinder moved every restart. I enjoyed the concept for sure.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! We decided to have the machine move every time because we were finding it too easy during play testing ;D

Submitted(+1)

That's a good design choice. Gives the game replayability.

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed the concept of the game!

I had some issues with the dog but all in all enjoyed the game a lot!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, we're glad you have fun! The dog is pretty pesky and is the source of most of the bugs ;D

Submitted

I found the dog very funny haha I managed to block him by throwing the bone in a part of the scene. I found the game environment well-crafted and the music very good. congratulations on the work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We only realised in the last hour of testing that the bone could end up unreachable and there was no time to find a solution :(

We're glad you had fun playing with the dog anyway though!

Submitted

Thank you for playing my game! I really enjoyed yours, the story telling was very effective. :) I felt like if I didn't get to that message it would have a real impact. The dog was really cute, and there was tension throughout, without it being terrifying like a horror game.

Developer

Thanks! That's pretty much the line we were trying to walk so I'm glad it came across :)

Thanks for the feedback! Glad the rewind volume and machine moving got you ;)

The theme doesn't really come out (except for the 'we rewind/solve your problem'. I have seen the mechanism before in a jam. Fun one with the dog and how you easily forget about the overall sound producing. The graphics could be better, but the overall feel is good.

Developer

Thanks!

I like this take on the theme. Hard to beat but fun game. I enjoyed playing it! Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks! We had fun making it :D

Hi, i've just played and rated your game. It's cool, but it gave me some  heartattacks, for example when i ran the first time in the dog, or when a bone rushes through the  hallway. But decent game. I have only one question. Is there a way to get into the door in the sleeping room? It's the only door i couldn't open.

Developer

Oh I feel mean now for not making it more obvious - that door can't be opened! It was meant to be a closet but we ran out of time to fill it with clothes :D

Submitted(+1)

Oh ok, but you don't have to feel sorry about it. I was just curios :D. A tip for next time, just delete the doorknub.

Submitted

I like the stealth aspect! and the dog is so cute!

Developer

Thank you!
